Unlike COVID, when AIDS hit it was a guaranteed death sentence. It is easy to imagine that had responded to AIDS, a truly serious disease, as we have COVID a lot of lives would have been spared - but we would not quarantine back then because of the concern for civil rights.

You got the first part right--if we'd responded to AIDS the way we should have, a lot of lives would have been spared. Instead Reagan and his administration ignored it, belittled it, or dismissed it, and a lot of people died because of his misjudgment--just like a lot of people died from COVID that didn't have to because Trump kept spouting his unscientific nonsense.
The second part is silly, though. There was never a need for an "AIDS quarantine", since it's a bloodborne disease.

If you think a lot of people died because of Trump, then you must really hate Biden because way more people died under his watch WITH a vaccine and knowledge of how the virus works.

This is the most ignorant post that I have seen on TNET today (scratch that) in months. Who developed operation Warp Speed? Who shut down the economy and forced quarantine for six weeks? Who first requested mask at all indoor facilities and within groups? Who even provided proven therapeutics while we waited for 9 months for the first vaccines to be made available? Who had almost daily meetings and press appearances to discuss the state of the vaccine, therapeutics and infection rate? Who did all of this while fighting off a fake Steele Dossier and Russian Hoax? Who did all of this while the CDC and WHO floundered with their talking points and directives.
Now, ask yourself if any of these precautions are now being discussed daily, weekly or if Biden has even come out of his basement to correct his absolute failure of an administration in heightened inflation rates, fuel and commodity prices, food shortages, porous borders, etc.
I am beginning to see why many long-time members of TNET have abandoned this social platform....

He laughed the Clorox off and said it was a joke. I bet you tried it though. LOL
He actually said sunlight would kill the virus which is true. The other guy told the media, "My butts been wiped" and has the mental capacity of a third grader.
Liberals are all uptight about a guy that's been out of office for a year while Rome burns under Sir Sleepsalot. Again, attack the messenger instead of the message. They have nothing to brag about.

That is a true statement and we are still no better off almost 2 years later. In many ways, we are worse off with rates growing faster under Omicron than the original strain. Just recently they have started trending down at least in the upstate. I look at tangibles vs lip service that all politicians do.

good old "public servant" Fauci. A 35+ year government grifter who will now enjoy a $350k per year pension, paid for by people who actually pay taxes. When he's not funding gain-of-function of research in China, he's LYING about funding gain-of-function research in China.
"The WIV (Wuhan Insititute of Virology)received about $600,000 from a five-year, $3 million-plus grant that Vanity Fair said EcoHealth got from the US National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, which is headed by Dr. Anthony Fauci."

Quarantine ? Hell, Reagan barely acknowledged it was even happening for years. I remember people calling it the "Gay Flu". I was a teenager in Berkeley county , and I saw a friend of mine's older brother catch it , get sick and eventually die from it. The stigma of which haunts his family still to this day. Because nobody knew he was gay ,and most people didn't even possess the basic civility , or humanity to come to his funeral afterward. I tell you what , that opened my eyes as a young kid . I saw the way people could be so callous and uncaring. You can believe a certain way , you can deny uncomfortable truths and even espouse your methods as right and everyone else's as wrong but by God how does anyone turn away from a grieving mother or sibling because they disagree with something that did them no personal harm ? Will never understand that at all.
Sorry Spud , had to vent a little. The post brought back a tough memory .

Yes, that is completely true. Faucci said he/they would develop a vaccine that would prevent people from getting aids. That was mid 1990s. Guess they are still working on that??

Those were some scary times before they knew what was causing it or how it was being transmitted. So sad that Arthur Ashe died from aids from a blood transfusion before they were testing blood!

Actually, the best way to prevent contracting AIDS is to "sit on your butt and keep your mouth closed".

+1 for this piece of American Literary History. I am curious, though; is that a personal possession or did you google this image?
My second thought: my, how far journalism has come in 38 years. Or not. . .
