Worst Clemson football road trip?

Mine was probably the gator bowl in 1996 vs Syracuse. Drove with a buddy eight hours to spend New Year’s in Jacksonville, next day sat through 3 quarters of probably the worst Clemson football performance I’ve ever seen with the worst hangover I think I’ve ever had. Then had to drive eight hours back and we had to go to work the next day.
What is yours?

At Syracuse 2017. Losing to them exposed some of the worst fans I've ever experienced in my years. Mix in a crap city for postgame. Will never go back.

1. Yes - surrounded by cajuns somehow even though we were sitting near Clemson band
2. Even worse - My dad and I got separated because he wouldn't use a cell phone yet and it took until the parking lots were empty to find him. (too many drinks were involved and we're not proud of it)
3. I was too young to be very mad (6) 4. Our RV broke down just outside of Brunswick on the way home on Christmas eve.

Just a p i s s-poor showing by the Tigers who were on something like a four-game losing streak to begin with.
We later heard Proctor was somewhat if not more than a little bit hungover during that game. Never confirmed the rumor, though.
Then on the long, depressing drive back to Anderson, we listened to them hang Hussein over there in Iraq.
A weird day.

Wow!! I never saw us win one other than South Carolina until the 2011 ACC championship game. That’s a fact…. I was on like a 12 game losing streak traveling., excluding Games at Williams Bryce. I’ve never seen us lose to the gamecocks there in 5 trips

that no yardlines or sidelines could be seen from my seats. And, the Coots behind Jeff Grantz Veered us to death, 56-20.
My only other road trip during my time at Clemson was equally bad, GT in Atlanta. This was the game they booted a fumble forward into the endzone and fell on it for what turned out to be the winning touchdown, 33-28.
After the Cooterville debacle in '75, I swore off road trips.

Drove the family down from Virginia to Wake for CTB's last game on a Thursday night. What a crappy effort on our part but it did bring in the Dabo era so there was a bright spot.

Got dropped off at the Hospital on the way to the game. I had started throwing up around 4am and it just wouldn't stop.
After 2 doses of anti-nausea medication, they were rolling me into a room for either an xRay or MRI and was about to hurl again. Nurse told me there was no way I could still be sick. I said if you don't hand me that pan right there you're the one that's gonna be the one cleaning this up, not me. She got that pan to me just in time.
The nurse said that's it, I'm knocking you out. She gave me a 3rd dose of anti-nausea and something else b/c and I was out cold for hours. I eventually was moved out to the waiting room to make room for others coming in because wouldn't know it, all sorts of people started coming in sick like me.
Figured it out, we all had food poisoning from a local fast food chicken place had some bad chicken.
I woke up on a bench on the waiting room to all my friends looking over me. All of them happened to be VT fans and were all smiling. I knew the game was not good one for us that day.

1993 at FSU . . . got beat 57-0 and then when we were walking out of the game, heard an FSU fan from above say "Clemson, boy they are no Duke" (Noles beat Duke 45-7 the week before) Talk about rubbing salt in the wound!

Was part of a travel group from Greenville on a chartered flight. Lots of anticipation, mirth, and happiness on the flight down.
The pre-game was good. We got to enter the Discover Card tailgate with great free food and non-alcoholic beverages.
The game started and we were playing relatively well. Then, the fumble happened. And, the rest was unbearable. We left the game in the middle of the 4th to go back to the bus that was to transport us back to the airport. Waited quietly in-line with the rest to get back on the plane. Unfortunately, one guy was so drunk, he was not allowed back on the plane. Slept most of the way back but awoke just before landing. I had never had flight motion sickness, but that early morning I did. Thankfully, no barfing, but the whole plane was "spinning" to me. Glad we landed quickly. Otherwise, I would have.
We landed back at GSP. Headed towards the house. It was 3:00 am. Pulled up to a red-light to turn left. After 3-4 minutes of the traffic lights cycling, it never turned green for us. With absolutely NO ONE on the road, I turned left under a red light. Of course, a cop was hidden and pulled me over. When he saw it was me, my senior-citizen parents, and a person asleep in the back seat, I told him we were returning from the game. He said, "I'm sorry. I just have to run your license. Just wanted to make sure you weren't drunk."
That was the worst game for me.

Luckily I can say the three times I remember seeing us play on the road (Auburn 2012 Coots 2023 and Kentucky 2023) We’ve won. I was to little to remember anything else I know or atleast been told that I was at a Clemson Duke game as a very young child.

2003 Wake Forest Game was bad for me. We started chanting Uhal for Tommy. That was disgraceful showing that night. Then the Orange Bowl vs West Virginia because of the game and we went all the way down to Miami and it the weather was 40 degrees that week with a 25-35 mph winds. All the Cubans looked like Eskimos

2017 Sugar Bowl. My daughter (the former Tiger Cub mascot) got married New Years Eve in Greenville. We got up the next morning and drove to New Orleans. The game was 8:00 so we checked in the hotel in Slidell and went right to the parking lot planning to tailgate before the game. It was 28 degrees with 30 MPH winds. We went into a bar and got something to eat and a few beers and headed to the stadium. It was brutally cold walking the 8-10 blocks to the stadium and let’s just sat it wasn’t through the best part of town. Then we got our b u t t s handed to us in the game and had to walk that 8-10 blocks back in the cold. We got back to Slidell really late then got up early the next morning and drove back to Asheville via Greenville because we had to drop our friends who went with us at their house in Simpsonville. I told my wife that is the last time I’m doing a quick road trip for a playoff game. The next year we got a room at a bed and breakfast in Napa Valley for a week around the national championship game. Had a much better time on that trip.
