With Pro Baseball on Hold and Fans Frustrated,

now I see Freddie Freeman has turned down 5 years and $135 million from the Braves. He is supposedly seeking 6 years and $200 million. That will make him 39 at the end of 6 seasons. I hope he and the Braves can work things out. He's a Brave!

Are you asking about the players or the owners? Baseball makes a lot of money. Who should get it?

Freddy knows he has the upper hand here

as the fans and teammates all say sign Freddy and make him a lifer.
But, I won't be surprised at all if Alex Anthopoulos doesn't give him that contract he's looking for (200 million over 6 years). That would be 7 million more per year than the next highest paid 1st baseman in the league.
Alex has a great track record of plugging holes with players from around the league, and paying a much less.

Better not get to greedy with the way inflation is high & the coming stock market crash. He should buy physical gold & silver and be patient for a while.
It’s not a good time for baseball to be on hold. Our financial situation isn’t looking very good right now with super-inflation that hasn’t been this bad since 1982. Big changes are ahead.
I’m sure the Braves will attempt to keep him.
Let’s go Braves!

I'll have to actually paint something to watch it dry, instead of watching baseball...

If you think it's boring, you really don't know the game. Try watching soccer.

after the last strike which resulted in the cancellation of nearly 940 games including the World Series, and many still haven't returned. The current lockout will result in even more fans walking away.

They could bring in several other quality players for $200 million.

I hope they can keep him but with the contracts they signed Albies and Acuna to there will be no way to resign both of them for what they will ask if Freddie gets 200m. Not to mention young stars like Fried and Riley that they will have to pay to keep.

Freddie is essentially asking for the Braves to pay for character and likability. There are a lot of good first basemen out there that can hit. I’m a FF fan, but I can’t say I’d offer him any more than he’s already been offered. I may go 6 years at $150 if it’s more the time that he cares about, but at some point it’s on Freddie to want to stay in atl with a fair offer.

The lack of an agreement was based more on the term of the new contract and not the compensation. That appears to have changed.
I do agree with your assessment.
