the number of years he's been here. You would expect the "forever" coach to have more of everything. The thing he doesn't have a lot of is notable postseason success. Instances of notable postseason success are statistical outliers, especially considering how long he's been here. His most notable accomplishment is finally ending the drought in Chapel Hill.
If you disagree with that, then answer this question your honor: Will Brownell be able to build on last year's success? Will we be competitive in the ACC this year? Any chance for a deep ACC tournament run? You probably follow our basketball program as closely as anyone here... what are your predictions for the '24-'25 Tiger Hoopsters?

Unfortunately, those who have a problem with Brownell - and who oddly enough still criticize him despite having what is arguably our best season in program history last year - don't seem to care.
They always try to explain it away by using his longevity at Clemson against him. I find that really weird, since he has obviously done something right to keep his job and continue getting raises and extensions. He's also very devoted to Clemson, something some of our previous coaches cannot say.

Will Brownell be able to build on the Elite 8 appearance? Is last year’s amazing NCAA tournament performance indicative of the ascendancy of the basketball program? If not, why not? If it was merely a fluke why does Brownell deserve a lot of credit for it?

who has coached our men's basketball program.
His NCAA Tournament winning percentage is better than everyone besides Bill Foster, who benefits from only making it once but doing really well when he got there (3-1).
Brad's NCAA Tournament winning percentage is better than Cliff Ellis, Rick Barnes, and Oliver Purnell's Clemson tenures.
Regarding next year, losing PJ Hall is a big loss for sure. However, I really like who we have coming back as well as our additions through high school recruiting and the transfer portal. I expect us to once again be very competitive in the ACC and put ourselves in a great position for another NCAA Tournament.

You did answer my question. The overwhelming number of ads and pop-ups on the mobile app made obscured your response on my initial reading.
So, you are definitely bullish on the ‘24-‘25 basketball team, and we should expect to be competitive in the ACC and back in the NCAA tournament. Got it.

Let’s hope as it will be nice to have consecutive productive seasons which CBB has struggled to do. I do think he’s recruiting better now so maybe we are ready to move up a tier in the league and be a steady presence in NCAAs. Time will tell.

then we could expect to go farther in the ACC tournament than getting shellacked by a terrible BC team in our first tournament game; in fact we should win a couple of ACCT games. We should also expect to at least make it to the Sweet 16. Sound reasonable? Would you bet a $1,000 on those things happening as proof that we’re gonna be even better than the ‘23-‘24 team?

I was providing a list of coaches who had the most losses at their schools but were still great coaches as the LF and the weird cant seem to grasp that distinction.

I highly doubt it unless we get consistently MUCH better.
Naming anything after him would be like naming something after Tommy Bowden. An average coach who pulls out a strong finish in the year he is on the hot seat and gets a new contract.

He's about the same as Frank Howard in on the field success, so there is that.

Actually a fair comparison.
and he did win in Chapel Hill...
If he stays another 20 years and retires I'd say we can name something after him.

That would be things which have never been done at Clemson but possible as he has already opened the gates on distinction with his wins at UNC plus two elite eight appearances

If he wins a natty, yes.
How many fields/courts at Clemson are named for excoaches? Can think of only one.

Simple question. If we gave other coaches 14 years, how many more wins?

Why would we name a court to a guy who simply was not fired ? How many wins would we expect from a good coach? ACC tournament wins? ACC championships? Tournament invites in 14 years? Tournament wins (throwing out play in games)? I think the obvious answer, is more than Brownell has.

The only reason could possibly be longevity... He has still done nothing of consequence to earn that honor. Hopefully that changes over his coaching stint at Clemson. Go Tigers!!!
