Yes. As much as any freshman can be a factor. His main focus needs to be just staying healthy.

I hope not. Let me explain.

In a perfect world, we see Capehart and Woods start, then a VERY SOLID rotation of Green, Burley, Brown-Shuler, Thompson, and Story. Wow, it was exciting to type that!

Then we get to see flashes of Adams in small doses, similar to XT a few years ago.

Things look bright on the DL.

I'd much rather have another dexter lawrence that comes in and makes life tough for opposing offensive lines as a freshman.

2nd that.

I wish I shared the same enthusiasm for capehart as others do, but I think Amare by mid season will take over.

Burley was supposed to be the next great one but for some reason hasn't broken through. Same with Story... as excited as everyone was to ink him on signing day, he should have been making waves by now. Even if those waves were the 2s.

He couldn't figure out who to block on field goals...

Yes. He is a phenom.

Yes, but not because our backups aren't good, but because

he is that good. He looked a like young Dexter Lawrence at the All Star game.

Definitely on the 2 deep. I think he'll play a good bit this season.***

Unless Adams is clearly better than the upperclassmen on the DL, then we should not expect him to play a lot of snaps.

Here’s why.

(1). True FR are more prone to jumping offside on hard counts. Offside penalties can ruin the defense’s efforts to prevent 3rd down and 4th down conversions.

(2). Screen passes. True FR are more readily fooled by screen passes than upperclassmen.

However, if Amare Adams is one of the top three DTs, then we should expect another season in which three DT starters rotate among themselves.

The great ones arrive ready to play and dominate early ... see William " The Fridge" Perry, Dexter Lawrence, Christian Wilkins, etc.

That said with health, strength & agility training dedication some of these at one time can't-miss upperclassmen may just flip the switch and help the team with productive reps.

Hoping for the young stars to shine but also pulling for the old dogs to turn the corner.

The most talented players will play. Period.
I'll just say there is plenty of room for him to impress.
We are no longer regarded as DLU.
To regain that status there will be some surprising performances akin to TJ Parker emerging from relative nowhere to superstar status in one season.

We are well positioned all over the field with the exception of D line to make a run.

It pains me to say that but the good news is that talent is there to change this in short order.

If these younger tigers come out hungry and accept the challenge they could be special

Yes. He will be too good to keep off of the field. I expect him to either take Capehart's spot, or split time with him by midseason. Adams is special, He is better than Peter Woods. He might actually be better than Christian Wilkins, and that is REALLY saying something. He is an immediate impact guy. He is going to be part of the rotation game 1. Just the thought of him and Peter Woods anchoring the middle of the D line is very exciting. Add in Parker at one end and if Hedt works out like we hope, and we might have the best d line in college football next year.

I saw him play several times this year. He’s very explosive and defeats single blockers with ease. He has trouble with double teams by being too high looking in the backfield trying to make a play. His reported size varies in height and weight. Has got to get stronger, but getting in school in January will definitely help him. I think he maybe able to play if needed, but I’m not sure if he will be able to play immediately.
Not being negative, just my thoughts off of personal observations.

He'll play some, but the DT position may be the deepest position we have. He'll be in the 3 deep unless guys get hurt ahead of him. Always good to keep fresh legs on the line tho

Depends on how you define "be a factor". I think he'll definitely be in the rotation and see some meaningful snaps. No chance of a noninjury redshirt for this guy. Beyond that it's difficult to say. Can't imagine he'll be so good he ends up starting ahead of everyone ahead of him but it'd certainly be a good problem to have!
