Why the Tim Banks hate?

3

Jan 6, 2025, 4:16 PM

The amount of times I have seen the baseless claim that “Tennessee’s defense sucks” is crazy. They are top-10 in total defense, scoring defense and rushing defense. They allowed over 20 points just three times. I assume people are looking at the loss to Ohio State and nothing else. Newsflash people: Ohio State put up 49 the last time we faced them with BV here. It just goes to show how casual some of you are to not think beyond a basic idea that Tennessee is high-powered offense with no defense. A clear lack of attention to the whole sport beyond Clemson

I think it is a tenant of this board that:

We beat Ohio State 31-0 that one time, therefore they will never be good, they are always overrated and we must always discount everything they do and all of the opponents they beat (including ourselves in 2020)!

It’s just so bizarre. People getting swept up in these perceptions they have regardless of actual results

I am just amazed the OH St guys who looked so ordinary to bad against Michigan looked so great against Tenn and Oregon. Unreal turnaround. Not sure what they will do this week

I think you’ll be surprised. They are playing to their potential and I think even Texas defense will have a hard time holding them under 30

It hurts, but sometimes you just gotta take a dive to get the big bucks, in a "sorry kid, but tonight ain't your night " sort of way. And it's only about the money now.

talking about how great our defense was and how we would be a top 5 defense in 2024.

HTH.

P.S. Tennessee gave up 30-40+ points this year in games versus their best competition. The same has been true previous years. We can do better.

If Dabo went through with firing someone he promoted for his staff it’s because he knows he has a strong replacement. I was worried about our run defense before the season because the cracks started showing last fall. Thought we wouldn’t be THAT bad though

Guilty. I don’t think I posted it, but I thought our defense would be a strength and might carry us until the offense gelled. I still think we have the guys, but we need to up our scheme and coaching. I have faith we will but I’m not sold on Banks. Not smart enough to know for sure but from the little I’ve researched, I believe there may be better options.

We did the exact same when BV was here. Most of our ranked vs ranked matchups were high scoring affairs

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Member that time we gave up 31 to Alabama

but scored 35 and won our first natty in 35 years? I wonder how embarrassed Venables and every soul on that D at the time must feel about that.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

You read that because Wes and our D took a step forward

2

Jan 6, 2025, 6:13 PM [ in reply to Roughly one year ago, I read many posts here ]

from his first year, despite you claiming numerous times trolling that our D was on a steady decline since signing him on. Just goes along with your two-face trolling and feigned ignorance.

Tennessee folks also have quick triggers on not getting greatness every year, and a sad case of recency bias which is similar to why 95% on here forget Venables gave up 49, 49, to OSU the last time we played them in 2021. Those goobers ran off Phil Fulmer in search of more than perfect and wandered the CFB desert for 20 years, and will still be wandering as they may soon lose a DC that helped them get in a CFP position to begin with.

Troll on, scornful ma'am.

Again, incorrect… Tenn gave up 20 points one time ! Against vandy and it was 23… then thr oh state game but if you are basing your opinion on that game then you shouldn’t be on here talking sports to be honest … iv seen this crap multiple times and not a single time did tenn give up more than 23 during the regular season lol…

What does that have to do with anything related to his ability to develop and coach a defense?

He hasn't developed sh!+. If you want someone who has developed and has done more with less, take a look at GT's Tyler Santucci.

TN gave him a new contract but he won't sign it. IMO, he's just looking for some extra dough.

Because it’s not the name people want or thought, so it has to be a bad hire.

As if Morris/Venables were ever on their radar.

Or as if they thought Elliot/Scott were the right choice to head the offense.

People like to pretend they’re more knowledgeable than they really are.

Don't hate him, and he would almost certainly be an upgrade, but that doesn't mean many think he's the best possible candidate.
