why is J. Alexander playing primarily special teams for 3 years?

Saw he was the no.1 edge in his recruiting class, but not playing much in the actual set defense at Bama......that worries me a little.....although he seems to have the talent as a 5 star. Hopefully its just a case of them never finding the right spot for him.

Hopefully, he can be a solid #3 LB and special teams player. You'll most likely be disappointed if you're expecting a 5* stud.

Based on the reaction on here it appears most fans are expecting a 5* stud. Stats don’t lie. He’s going to be a depth piece and that’s about it.

Sometimes it actually takes some kids a little longer to develop lol I’m not expecting a 5 star impact acc player of the year but who knows what a change of scenery and coaches will do, the kid was obviously talented.

Tony Seward was a five star and it took him until his final year to be a full-time contributor and he was quite good his last year. Arguably he had documented injuries that kept him off the field along the way.

I doubt Saban kept a stud on the bench due to not knowing defensive talent when he sees it. Glad we got him but if you're expecting more than a rotation guy, at best, you're probably gonna be disappointed.

Alabama’s model was to stockpile studs on the bench for 2-3 years and keep them away from the competition
Will he turn out to be a stud, who knows?
But Bama was the king of this approach for many years

They have had freshman in the 2 deep that skipped him though.

He did have some injury issues.
Maybe playing out of place?
I watched his HS film again today and he seems more edge than LB but just an uninformed observation.

Spent RS Freshman year half hurt ,half switching positions, then new coaching staff.
Reports on him coming out of HS were that he was a better fit for a 4-3/4-2 system than a 3-4 system.
If he closer to 225 than he is 250 ,he'll play LB @ Clemson.

It seems like a good pickup and we probably should not overthink it.

And I am sure we can thank Peter Woods for getting this guy. I doubt he would come unless TRex was telling him good things are coming.

All 5 star high school studs are not created equally. If he didn’t get playing time after 3 years, it is usually either an attitude, effort or talent problem🤷♂️

Because he basically became out of position in Wommack's 4-2-5 swarm defense. He was recruited and developed to play the edge in Saban's 3-4 base...
Like some have mentioned on here and which I think is a great and accurate comp...Think Vic Beasley...Alexander will be coming in as an xtra outside rusher in obvious passing situations...We are run a 4-3 so unless they completely overhaul his game and body, he is a depth/situational player for us. Still a good pickup tho

I say kick back and enjoy because he is about to light it up on defense.

Welcome to the portal where everything is made up and the HS rankings don’t matter.
