Why does it always rain 3-pointers when we play??

I would like some opinions from the roundball experts on TNET because I am at a loss as to why this happens. Every team we play seems to start raining bombs into their basket the second they leave their locker room when they play Clemson and it seems to have been that way for years. Why is that? Is it poor perimeter defense? Is it lack of effort on D? Is it a scheme (coaching) problem? We have some excellent 3-point shooters but they seem to run hot & cold. However, it seems every team we play has a hot night from 3. Why is that? Somebody help me out here. Thx.

I thought Brownell was supposed to be a good defensive coach.

Yeah me too. Lots of evidence to indicate otherwise.

I think it’s just that we played slower and by nature the scores were lower making it look that way. At the same time the basic skill level of basketball has gone down so there’s less to work with defensively.

They shot 42% from 3 according to the box score. Felt like they shot even better than that.

The problem isn't what GaTech shot.
The problem is we were like 3-22 from 3.

Our best 3 point shooter doesn't get good looks. Because, defense. And because we don't have another threat since Brothers Hunter can't hit a shot.
Consistently giving up tons of 3s is not just "they shot better than us".

I don't really know why but it must be our D is pretty easy to plan against. Because it does seem like other teams can work the ball and get open looks. And we can't get Girard open as easy.

OP teams always started out hot and faded as the year progressed. The reason? IMO, it is because of the full court press style of basketball would be hard to handle by the opposing teams early in the season, but as the year progressed the game would slow down for the opposite players, with better ball handling, quicker passes and better floor vision. The press became less effective as the year went on and teams adjusted.
Similarly, BB's teams defensively allow the 3 pointers because the paint is more important, he emphasizes stopping the drives to the rim and rebounding. As teams play more their shooting improves from the arc, coaches recognize the open 3 and put their best 3 pt shooters on the court(even if it is a bench player who normally doesn't play).
The real failure of BB is that he is not a motivator and does not scout his own team's weaknesses, especially at halftime. He may make offensive adjustments but never defensive after the half.

Basketball has been vastly slanted more towards 3-point shooting for many years now. BB's inability to adjust his defense accordingly is yet another indicator that we need a new coach.

defense all year. She has not been watching the same games I have been watching, that's for sure. Some PAST Brownnell teams may have hung their hat on defense, but somebody took the hatrack away for this team.

It's almost like a team of mostly transfers struggles to play cohesive defense.
Everyone knew Girard would be a defensive liability but his offense was supposed to make up for it.
Last night, not so much...

Poor perimeter defense. They don't fight through screens or run them off the 3 point line.
