And then there were three: Brandon Streeter breaks down Bryant, Lawrence, and Brice
The Clemson coaching staff enters the 2018 season with three scholarship quarterbacks on the roster, with Trevor Lawrence and Chase Brice each expected to battle incumbent Kelly Bryant for the starting role.
Each quarterback brings something different to the table – Bryant is a true athlete that brings leadership and experience to the job; Lawrence has the expectations and the arm talent; Brice is a gritty player who does whatever it takes to win. What does Brandon Streeter think about each quarterback? Full Story » |

That's one quality that hasn't been mentioned in the umpteen posts on the QB battle. KB has it with this team. TL will have to develop it.

Where did folks

Read from this article that TL lacks leadership and it must be developed? Where? He exudes confidence, yet clearly, he lets his actions speak. It's not like anyone is going to miss a 6'5", long-haired QB in the room, on the field...at the beach, wherever.
For those who watched the Spring Game...let's be clear: KB did NOT display leadership. He showed a petulant, whiny side that is anathema to what Dabo expects from his players. He did a lot of damage to himself, because fans saw him crumble in the face of adversity. The very reasons he voiced for his performance were the very obstacles the other QB's surmounted...even HJ.

Trevor Lawrence doesn't have leadership? Huh??? He seemed to show plenty of it in the spring game. Can't say the same for KB.

I didn't say TL didn't have leadership. I said he would need to develop it WITH THIS TEAM. He's only been on campus a few months and hasn't played a single snap in a real game. Leadership is not given, it's earned.

game. There's a saying that 'Game recognizes game'. Lawrence has game in spades, and everybody in the program knows it, thus this latest transfer. He doesn't look like an early enrollee FR. He looks like he's been in the program 2 or 3 years. The leadership thing is a non-issue.

How the hail can anyone expect anyone to know our playbook in a few short months? It's not like Paul Johnson's. No one expected TL to know the playbook this soon. Give the kid another 100 days and we'll see his leadership abilities soar.

I think any really QB has leadership. It has many facets for sure. Only some of those facets show up in TNET posts due to the bent of the writer. I'll bet TL has many of those facets already, but being only 4 months on the job, so to speak, it takes some time to see him in action and earn team trust, one of the many facets. Looking forward to the start of the season so we can see how our QB situation has shaped up, not just read about it.

Confidence in your QB to lead the team down the field and
May 22, 2018, 9:14 AM

into the end zone will produce instant credibility in the leadership department. It's not a popularity contest, it's a matter of results. Besides, having watched Lawrence in the spring game and what little I saw of him in HS, he doesn't seem to have a problem with being liked. If he wins the job, I have no qualms about his ability to 'lead', whether from a performance standpoint or in the locker room. Nor do I have any doubts that he can execute the designed QB runs. There's nothing at all lacking about his wheels.
If being liked and being fast is all we can point to about a QB, I'll take the guy who has all that and is also a surgeon when throwing the ball, but that's just me. As an aside, if we want to continue being known as WRU, it's kinda important to put WRs in a position to showcase their talent.

This debate didn't occur in the Spring of '14. Few, if any, were lining up behind Stoudt. It was all about DW4. What's changed now?

Our Offense
May 22, 2018, 10:48 AM
|
|
Was 75% of what it was the year before. The defense led Clemson to the CFP, not the offense. Let's not choose to see things that were not there. Let's also realize that last season was a very pleasant surprise. Many Tiger fans, myself included, were looking ahead to '18 and, definitely, '19...just hopeful the Tigers could be successful last season. KB managed the game pretty well, but as the season wore on, less and less dimension and creativity showed, but plenty of red flags became apparent. There was zero doubt that the KB of the last half of the season wouldn't beat Bama...something had to change. Nothing changed..and the results fell where they did.
I support Clemson...I appreciate what KB did. That said, Clemson can make the CFP again with KB at the helm. If that's the route, it will also do damage to the reputation Clemson has built the past half-dozen or more years. WRU has to walk, not just be a talking point. Opponents need to fear what WRU can do, and that opens the door for ETN and Feaster, too. To not establish that reality will not be a good thing...in my lame opinion.

I just hope Brice sticks around. We all knew at some point Hunter Johnson was going to go. I will be a fan of the team he lands on, hopefully Purdue, and if they can keep Jeff Brohm the Boilermakers might be pretty decent in future years. I thought Hunter should have played more last year and particularly in the Syracuse game. I like the kid.

Agreed! KB did a good job managing the system, but he’s not the QB to win a CFC. Whether Trevor starts game 1 or they bring him along slowly, he’s a must by the time we reach the playoffs. Either way, Go Tigers!

Chad Morris is an obstinate knucklehead who asked Stoudt to do things he couldn't do while Watson was twice the talent and a perfect fit for Morris offense. Cole did well when Elliot and Scott called the plays.

Leadership?
May 22, 2018, 11:23 AM
|
|
From M, Chemers (1997) An Integrative theory of Leadership.
"Leadership is both a research area and a practical skill encompassing the ability of an individual or organization to "lead" or guide other individuals, teams, or entire organizations."
Questions about leadership, or lack of mention of leadership in Streeter's statements about Lawrence. It seems obvious that no mention of leadership with Lawrence is most likely because he does not yet have command of the playbook well enough to guide or lead yet.
Give Trevor another 102 days and check back. He isn't working on a Mark Twain short story right now, he's trying to absorb War and Peace.

I can imagine the conversation going on between TL and Jeff Scott in that photo. (I know it’s an older photo, but it still made me chuckle when I saw it)
TL realizing the impact of Hunter leaving says “Coach, you mean it’s only me, KB, and Brice?” Coach Scott nodding his head says “yep, time to put your big boy britches on”. TL says, “Not a problem”.

Where are y'all getting all the "lack of leadership" stuff from???? The order is exactly what you would expect and based on seniority - who will play the most will be determined in time. My guess is, barring major injury, 2018 will play out similar to DW's first year. KB will start the year as he should and TL will get more and more time and we'll see what happens. I think CB can play as well but hate to lose Hunter - however don't blame him for wanting to start now and there aren't many places where he can't do that. Good luck HJ and go Tigers!

Bryant = Slow release, long delivery, can’t read defenses to find second and third options (never more evident than against Alabama and the play he was injured on against Syracuse), leaves the pocket too soon, telegraphs throws. He is not very good. Etienne, Feaster and the defense bailed him out against NC State and FSU.
Any one of the quarterbacks last year woulda went 12 - 1 before the CFP. Unfortunately, HJ never gotta shot or the Tigers may have been undefeated and back to back National Champions. That one is on Dabo. Same goes for this year.
