I can't find the rules anywhere so want to know where this is coming from

If all 3 teams go 1-1 then top seed advances. So UVA could go 1-1 and another team go 2-0 and team 3 go 0-2 and not advance.

However, the loser of Clemson Vs. Duke is eliminated. Because any 1 loss tie breaker goes to UVA.

You mentioned 2 scenarios for pool play results
1) all teams go 1-1, then top seed in pool advances
OR
2) team 1 goes 2-0, team 2 goes 1-1, team 3 goes 0-2, team 1 advances irrespective of seed
