And they had to have their qb play like Superman to score those 17pts. If we can’t score more than that it’s on Riley or dabo…whoever is really calling the plays in crunch time.

because he sucks? Garret is on his way there too, but it's hard to tell if he actually has a leash on or not most times. Wes on the other hand has full control of the D.

267 yards of rushing! That is why! This defense cannot stop the run, even against the Citadel. The defense cannot tackle. There is nobody on the that defense that is an enforcer.

Correct. If you can't stop the run, you will rarely win. There was no gap maintenance when rushing the QB. Go back and watch the 2017 game at Louisville when the Cards had Lamar Jackson. Venables kept him in the pocket nearly the entire game. Dabo needs a new OC and DC. The scoring progression against SC is 30, 16 (no offensive TD), and 14. Next year Clemson may not score double digits.

Didn't go for points at the half. Went into a shell and generally went away from what was working in the 4th. Cade also missed on a slant to Wesco (I think) that probably goes to the house if thrown accurately in the 4th.

Correct. Wesco had 3 yards on the nearest defender. Klubnik decides to drill the pass.

Yes, you come out with a great wide open drive to start the second half and then go into the crapper for the rest of the game until you get behind. Then we opened the offense again and should have at least gotten into overtime except for an over anxious QB that once again makes a bad decision. It’s like we trying to put ourselves in a position to come from behind to win the game. Check our coaches betting.

If not for the turnovers, we would not have been in that game

Obviously, you have to put players in position to make plays, but we gave up 450 yards. It is a miracle they only scored 17 points. Further, the decision to put a nickel package on the field to win the game because we thought they would stop running the ball thus removing your best linebacker... that alone is worth some strong criticism.
We had some issues offensively when it comes to situational awareness, but overall I felt we had the right gameplan. Players just did not execute. See 4th and 1 stuff on missed block or Cade missing the slant to Wesco that goes at least 40 yards, if not a 70 yard TD. Defensively, we did zero.

I don’t get that either. The players were in position to make plays… he can’t go on the field and make the tackles for them. Carolina’s whole offense consisted of broken plays. The players have to not let the QB slip through their fingers.

Defense no better against USC than Citadel
Dec 2, 2024, 11:15 AM
|

The 'genius planner' has not been prepared for his opponent lately. The big idea to switch defenses at halftime WITHOUT KNOWING what USC was going to do was stupid. What was even more stupid was when USC did not alter their attack, Porkchop continued without changing back to what was working early in the game. Sammy Brown not getting to play in the 2nd half was a fireable offense IMO...he had about 6 tackles in the 1st QTR alone.

The Defense can’t set the edge, can’t tackle, has no depth. Had one job for us to do versus the Cawks and that was not let sellers beat you with his feet. Well…guess what…

Amazing how Riley gets a pass for scoring 14 points. Every big game his offense goes dormant. The defense created turnovers and gave the offense good field position. The offense could of won the game but goes 3 and out which everyone knew they would do.
Yes the defense has slipped but it's the offense who lost this game.

Exactly. Giving up points costs games not yardage. The defense had multiple take aways and gift wrapped the offense the ability to put the game away. The offense scored 14 points.

Exactly. The #### offense has to do something and we have looked pathetic against decent teams. The offense has got to improve their coaching.

Looks at the numbers this year

Clemson is outside Top 25 nationally in almost every statistical category. Only 2 our D finished in Top 25 on...TFL & TOs forced.
Yardage wise, they're outside Top 50 in total defense & rushing defense.
& the 4th quarter Saturday was telling...they took out Sammy Brown anticipating SC was gonna change their game plan. SC didn't & drove it down their throats. & upon realizing SC was sticking to their guns, neither Wes, Conn, or even Dabo (who I'm sure has ability to override their decisions) thought to go back to what was working defensively & get Brown back in.
Don't get me wrong, alot of coaching blame (& Riley/offensive staff deserve criticism too for their choices Sat) but overall the D hasn't been up to par w/ the product of the last decade despite the talent (which is still there when you look @ guys like TJ, PWoo, Terrell, Hampton, Brown, etc)
