Definitely a Finanical ranking as OSU’s bigger alumni makes them more money in subscriptions. No way will OSU be better top to bottom than Clemson.

We would probably have the upper hand on D. It depends on how well our offense adjusts to a new line and life without Ross. If they gel, I think we get the best of them.

By then Bresee and Murphy will basically be sophomores. Our DL will be plain scary by then.

3 things that will make our defense a continued handful for any opponent this year.
1)Increased depth and talent on the D Line. No doubt this will be the biggest difference from last year.
2) James Skalski. He was routinely pulled out of scrimmages this spring b/c he was like a cheat code, and kept wrecking everything the offense was trying to do. I expect a special year from him. You might see him moved around this year to confuse defenses.
3) Scheme. Lets face it, BV will never run just 4 down, or odd. He's going mix it up b/n odd, 4 down and Bear. It's already difficult to have to prepare for 1 type of defensive philosophy with a few wrinkles. Now, try to prepare for 3 distinctive types of defenses. It's just about impossible.

Yes! Latest stat is TOSU enrollment 61,170 (2019). Believe Clemson just passed 20K undergrad. Over the years this is a huge number for TO$U.

Because of Ross, I agree we are no longer the obvious #1.
Ohio State has huge question marks on defense. Despite this, I rate them our biggest obstacle to winning the CFP this year.
IMO, Alabama and UGA should clearly start off behind us and OSU because of questions at the QB position.
Beyond those 4, Penn State and LSU are too high. Wisconsin will run the table but lose to Ohio State in the Big Ten championship game. QB play and speed at the CB and WR positions will remain the difference. Oregon is way too low. Their entire season may ride on beating Ohio State Sep 12th. UT (Texas) may finally break through this year. If not, Tom Herman is gone gone gone.

The rumor I have from some relatives in Texas, that are "Horn donors is that Herman has really ruffled some very high dollar donor feathers and has a lot of fence mending to do and they don't winning is gonna fix it.

I'm well aware UT donors/alums are high maintenance and demand lot's of hand holding and schmoozing. It's more than just about winning games.
Herman's defiant, abrasive, know-it-all demeanor doesn't fit the culture.
If they lose to both LSU and OU, I will intensely enjoy him roasting on the hot seat the final half of the season. There are no more excuses now that he's cleaned out the assistance coaches.

The pattern fits that any power-five young-gun with a decent two-year record in the Big East or similar.
Speaking of a coach that would hit the two-year mark at the end of this season... Mack Brown anyone?
That being said, the 4th year should be Herman's breakout season. Winning smooths donors more than anything, He has been successful in my eyes thus far but I get Texas not being patient... but that makes them a dumpster fire awaiting a spark. Just as the other UT

I don't have a clue, but, Dabo has become a very hot idem for schools with lots of money, and Texas has their own Bank. I don't think Dabo would ever leave Clemson bc everything he could want as a coach is at Clemson, plus Clemson is his Baby that he rebuilt from the ground up, and he and his family is awful proud of what he has done at a small school like Clemson, and they all absolutely love it in Clemson, and I think that Kathleen has her own set of controls from the passenger seat of that bus!!! ??

One player does not make a winning team unless that 1 man is our QB but, I wouldn't be afraid to say that DJ Uiagalelei could take us to the NC game and win it all bc the kid has the tools and the size to be a true dual threat QB that can run over people in short yardage plays, plus we will have depth on our D this coming season!!!

Oh, that makes sense - OSU has one of the best QBs with one of the best WR groups, so they should be #1. Sounds a little familiar though - not sure why

It's talented, but very young and completely unproven.

Well, they only missed it by 1. We never are, nor have been, #2. One day they will figure that out.

I think our offense COULD take a step backwards. Hopefully not, but if so, we will have at least two games before tOSU to worry about first.

Losing both Higgins AND Ross hurts quite a bit

Not to mention that our OL is likely going to be a bit worse this year after losing 4/5 starters. OSU is going to be loaded so i don't think its ridiculous to have them slightly ahead of us.

I could be wrong, but I don't see our offense being worse. We have some experience coming back, plus most of the young guys are quality 4 star kids. And why would ETN/Travis Etienne come back and risk his draft stock falling if he didn't believe we were going to have a good OL this season. If he thought that our OL was going to be worse, I think he would have went to the NFL, just saying, I think we're going to be fine on the offensive side of the ball!!!

Great news! Hard to outperform preseason talking head predictions when you are ranked #1 at the start. Undefeated and ranked #5 going into the ACCCG was a real incentive. I'm guessing most folks will work harder to get out of Hell than they would to stay in Heaven.

One thing, how many times in the past 10 years has 24/7 picked the preseason #1 team that finished in the top 1 or 2 at the end of season??? I'm guessing O Zero times!!!
