Who thinks we can get better

I mean much better as the season progresses? Can this team be the ACC champs? If it can, can it win a play-off game?
My take away from Saturday is that we are a long way from being at Georgia's level of play. So the question really is can we get anywhere close to there?
We lost 1 game...1. As fans we seem to have lost complete confidence in this coaching staff very quickly. I saw a few bright spots saturday. Cade Klubnic did not turn it over. He did have time to throw for most of the game so the offensive line is actually much better. The Defense looked good if not grerat until they rapidly fell apart in the 2nd half. Can this coaching staff fix any of the problems?
1 loss folks. Who really thought we would beat Georgia? I mean really in your heart and not out of fan loyalty. I was hoping for a hard fought game and did not think we would get blown out, but I thought a win was unlikely. My disappoint is in the blow out. Can we pick up the pieces and win? Will we get better?

Did you really expect to win a championship this year and beat Georgia Saturday?

I expected neither. Was I hopeful we could beat Georgia? Yes.
Do I expect us to make the playoffs? Yes.

I read numerous predictions calling for us to be undefeated and national champions this year. Plenty of others had us losing 1 game and still being a national championship contender.

“People on here”… there’s a reason we were barely in the top 15 and a double digit dog in this game. No one should have expected to win that game and honestly I didn’t expect to cover until I saw proof the offense had improved not just coach speak in the off season… I was just disappointed in the offense and expected to score a couple tds lol

Absolutely. I saw a lot of talent and studs on our team. However there needs to be major coaching changes, and now! He can’t wait imo to send a message at the end of the year. Heads need to roll asap to light a fire under the players.

About the depth. I think the OL is much improved so I believe we'll run the ball much better against all our other opponents. Our QB is limited so while we'll get better in passing once the freshman are allowed to play we won't Crack the top half nationally in passing ranking.
So I think we win the ACC and get beaten by 2+ TDs in the playoffs

I’m thinking we find a way to go 10-2 due to a horrible schedule and then we get crushed by Miami and the bowl opponent. 10-4 and we actually aren’t any good but it’s 10 wins. Pumpers will cream

ACC champ game to Miami. If not, then we get embarrassed in playoffs. Big drop from the top 4-5 teams to the rest( where we now reside).

We don’t have coaches that can help us get better. We have a terrible quarterback, a running back that’s running in sand, a fail TE, a frail WR that needs to leave before 4 games is up…. we have 4 skill players worth keeping and the oline looks much improved

I hear ya and want to side with you, but fact is; its not just one loss. We went from hero to zero very quickly several years ago and havent done anything that leads one to reasonably assume the zero is in the past.
We are looking a lot like Hatfield tigers here lately and not what we had come to expect from a Dabo coached team. I'll be among the last to want to see Dabo go, but we havent recovered since Jeff Scott left and something needs to be fixed.

I think the best case scenario this year
1
Sep 3, 2024, 1:36 PM

is that we win a weak ACC to make the playoffs, then likely get obliterated there.
More realistically, I think we are a 3-4 loss team this year. I predict 9-3 or 8-4 in the regular season, based on just how much more talented and football-focused we are at Clemson compared to most of the other ACC teams.
I will be shocked if we are so bad that we are in the 7-5 or 6-6 range. It's possible, but I don't think we are that bad.

Relative to last weeks competition, absolutely. Clemson is not in ga's league anymore. Different budgets, different teams. If this team can keep its head up after last week, and that's on the coaches, should roll through the rest of the season, maybe win one in the new playoff. Good year!

Lotsa "ifs" but here are my answers:
Can we get better? Yes. Absolutely. There is talent on this team. Will we get better? Barring another season of crazy injuries.....Yes. Will we win the ACC? See last answer. Will we make the playoff? See last answer. Can we win a playoff game? Depends on the opponent but this team should be a LOT better by November.

In a serious response and not being a smart@$$ I do think we will get much better as the season moves along. That’s one major positive of Dabo: The team is ALWAYS a lot better in late October/early November than they were starting out. I’m sure most teams are, but Dabo seems to have his teams improving by a lot by the last qtr of the season.
I do think we can still make the playoffs, but we will have to beat Miami in the ACC champ game, a they looked pretty legit to start the season.

Yes , we can and it begins Saturday. I'll be disappointed and reassess if we don't take AppSt behind the woodshed. Merely winning is disappointing after what we just witnessed.
We aren't as far off as some think or we would likely lose to AppSt. AppSt is no pushover.
Georgia is just light years ahead of us.
In several previous threads I posted the position rankings of the bulldogs.
I did this for the purpose of illustrating just how tall of an order it would be to topple Georgia.
But no one took note or if they did they dismissed the rankings. They are highly regarded across the board. They don't have a weakness.
There's one thing that is disconcerting with all this. With Kirby's recent successe at Georgia we can no longer go in that state and get the pick of the litter from their backyard like we had become accustomed to during the Mark Richt years. Most years our roster has been heavily represented by the peach state. No more
Kirby is getting who he wants. Food for thought

Disclaimer, we have played precisely 1 game, against the most stacked roster in CFB. Any real projection is largely speculative.
My opinion is that we already are better. Our OL, to my eyes, is better. We also seemed to have addressed our turnover issues of last year. We turned it over once, but on a play that maybe 1 or 2 defenders in all of college football can make. And finally, our kicking game, albeit with a minimal sample size, seems improved.
Whether we start leveraging those improvements into a championship level team is anybody’s guess. It is possible, but doubtful. I am optimistic we can be good enough to make the ACCCG. Right now, I think projecting us to beat UM in a possible matchup would be a significant stretch, bordering on the ridiculous. That said, I think the UF game flatters UM and the UGA game overstates how bad we are - the “you never are as good/bad” adage manifest.
My still-wearing-orange-colored-glasses opinion is we can make the playoffs, but it would take a extraordinary coaching job and player commitment/improvement for us to be competitive with the top-level teams. I think best case for this team is top 5, but still a notch below the real contenders.

We can definitely win the ACC, but that’s the equivalent of Usain Bolt winning a sprint against an 80 year old, it’s a low bar. Miami will undoubtedly implode at some point or go for it instead of taking a knee again.
The more important question is can we compete against a good opponent, and the answer to that is a resounding “no”. If we make the playoffs we will be unceremoniously dismissed the first game we play.
When we were at our peak we were untouchable in the ACC, it was still a lesser league but we were a top tier team and the scoreboard reflected that. Starters were out in the 3rd quarter and our backups were still making teams look silly. Now we struggle against what should be inferior opponents, and it’s not that they’ve caught up to us, no we have fallen back to them.
Grish has to go, full stop. But the rest of the staff, especially Dabo, needs to get their fire and hunger back. They lost it after that smokeshow in San Fran. It was probably the most impressive all around performance I’ve ever seen and unfortunately they’ve been complacently riding that high ever since

I think the results will be better moving forward. Will the team actually be better or is it because the schedule gets easier? That answer won't truly come until or if we play another top tier team again. I want to see Wesco and Moore get some starts and see what they can do. I personally think they can be the difference makers we have been missing for several seasons. Play calling can't stay too conservative either or their talent will never be recognized. Clemson will not face another team close to what UGA fielded last Saturday. That was brutal to watch! I think this team will be good enough to win every game left on the schedule. We will find out soon, I guess.

I think we can beat most if not all of the midgets we face. Sadly that may result in an embarrassing playoff blowout where everyone questions a 12 team playoff due to the degree of blowout and talent gap. But here we are. Nevermind though, Miami wears the crown of the ACC this year and we get to watch them get equally blown out.
