I don't agree with Walt on many things but he is dead on this one. I don't care if there is a big learning curve or not. He is one of our most talented players and he needs to be on the field. His stats are just as good as both of the other linebackers and he's played a small fraction of the amount of plays they have. Free. Sammy Brown!

He needs to be starting. Whether it's a new scheme that has 3 LB's or he gets the nod over Carter or Woodaz. Period.

Woodaz is probably one of the best in College football...he did not stink against Louie...Sammy needs to grow a little...our D line stunk against Louie...most of D stunk...time management against Louie sucked...looked like FSU!

Go to a 4-3-4. This allows 0 and 17 to play their natural position which is OLB. Putting Sammy at MLB helps defend the run. Also bring the safeties up. Sitting back 10 to 14 yards gives zero run support.

He didn't say during the part I caught but did offer that Brown has much better measurables than both which I would agree. Carter will make an All-American caliber play here and there but seems to completely disappear for large stretches of each game. Woodaz is obviously very instinctual and seems to know where to be but doesn't have elite measurables IMO which is why he wasn't rated highly out of HS.
Sammy backs up Carter I believe. Not sure if he has cross trained. But it would be nice to get them all three on the field somehow. Gotta think Venables would have found a way to get Sammy on the field.

Agreed. Carter has not made much if an impact. Doesn't seem to have the instincts needed to play LB.

This is a stupid comment. I don't think he'll leave, but it has nothing to do with character. We've failed to live up to expectations. If he thinks he can get more playing time, more money, and more championships elsewhere, he'd be completely right in leaving.

If my comment is stupid, you have managed to make yours even more stupid. To Sammy, if it were all about money he would not have come to Clemson in the first place. Maybe you should learn more about our young men and why they come to Clemson. Sammy understood totally that he had a lot to learn and may not see the field as a starter on day one.

I agree, use him for Blitz’s which seem to be missing from Wes Goodwins defense. Good QB;s are eating our lunch. i say put them on the ground with Sammy Brown.

Boy, quite a thread. In our 4-3-4 Carter has always played WIll and been a solid performer. In the nickel our entire run defense has suffered and often time Woodaz and Carter are not making contact until 5 yards down the field. This nickel is broken. When we cheat a safety or nickel up for run support they are not big enough or talented enough to stuff the run as Sammy B can. I know Carter had a bad game but, he has been on the field for every snap for 4 straight years. He is the very last player that will sit once a game has been decided. So, he is on the field for a reason but this nickel scheme is not helping anyone with filling the run gaps. No idea what Wes is thinking. To get more push he actually brought J. Lawson into the game as a LB and then had him move to the line of scrimmage giving us 5 down lineman. Did it several times without a good result. So in a sense, we have J Lawson in front of S Brown. Sorry, but their talent level and output isn't in the same zip code. Yes, Sammy must play because he's way ahead of our nickel back or any extra D end that we bring in. Got to get our best on the field. At a loss as to how we got into this nickel defense seeing the results have been putrid.

I kind of thought he wasn’t quite ready until today. He was pretty impressive and led the team in tackles.
I’d still like to see him get a shot at playing both ways, but that’s unlikely to happen

I think what happened yesterday proves the you and Walt were right, Sammy did need to on the field.
The difference in the run defense showed remarkable improvement with the scheme change and Sammy!

When our two best D linemen went down, Capehart and Woods then we switch off the Nickel package to the 4-3 4 which brought in Sammy B. That is our best option with our top linemen out. This is the only reason for that Scheme being put in. But, Without a Sammy Brown this scheme would not have worked. But going forward. Just think about that line up! Sammy at MLB, Woodaz at OLB left and Carter at OLB Right… ain’t nobody running on us and any slot receivers coming acros the middle for a quick slant… Lord help them!!
