Pat Riley. John Wooden.
Anyway, how would we know? That question always seems odd to me. We don't even know who would be available. Moreover, CBB will be returning season.

Realistically, the younger coach (Dusty May) at FAU would be an excellent choice. He went to the Final Four last year, and let's face it, he won't stay at FAU forever. Coming to the ACC would be a step up for him. Heck, the coach at (God forbid)(Lamont Paris) South Carolina is a better coach than BB. 25 wins this year in the SEC, and SEC Coach of the year. It's too easy to find a replacement for Brad.

Why do this when its not happening? Coach Brownell is at an uptick. If he keeps winning, maybe he then gets another gig opportunity to leave....

We're having a pretty good season. Had a chance to have a most excellent season, but blew a few too large, late 2nd half leads.
But one season does not make up for the 13 previous seasons mired in mediocrity, uneven coaching and play, middling to fair recruiting.
If we had a really good coach, then my feelings going into a game like tonight's "must win" game would be something like "we might lose, but I can be certain we will give our best effort, hustle 100% of the time, and play as hard as we can; the coach will have the team well-prepared and motivated, and will make in-game adjustments as necessary."
With Brownell at the helm, I can't say ANY of that.
There are any number of ways tonight's game might play out...
Clemson could come out strong, shooting a balanced mix of 2s and threes and making most of them and ride that to a 20 point win. Hall and Chef work together in the paint with some hi/lo action and cleaning up each other's missed bunnies, or kicking out to open JG3 for the 3-ball. C Hunter has 6 or 7 nice dimes and Clark shuts down his assignment on the other end.
Clemson could make few early three's, fall in love with them, and jack up 35 of them but go ice cold. Failure to rebound any of the 3-bricks give WF 20 extra possessions and we get murdered.
It could be an evenly matched game for most of the game, then Clemson could scratch out an 11 point lead with 4 minutes left to play. Brownell calls the offense to try to eat clock, we throw up an airball with 1s on the clock a few times, turn it over a few times, WF hits 4 threes in a row to take the lead with 20s left, then with by 7 because we foul and cannot gain ground.
WFU could come out red hot, build an 18-point early lead, Clemson has no answer, plays lackluster defense, shoots poorly, basically gives up and WF wins going away.
PJ Hall gets 3 fouls in the first 4 minutes, sits the rest of the 1st half. Draws 4th foul on first possession of 2nd half. Sits until the under-4 timeout. Chef, Godfrey, Wiggins put in yeoman's effort and it's a tie game when Hall returns. As soon as he re-enters, Hall takes 2 threes that miss badly. WFU uses those possessions to gain an advantage. Hall fouls out after getting stripped of the ball.

Six 20-win seasons in 14 years at the school with a fan base that does not understand or care about basketball. Only Clemson coach in history over .500 in ACC play. I think he is done a helluva job and is a lot better than Clemson deserves.

Who wouldn’t be an improvement?
There are 10 ACC programs, all with better histories of success, who are sitting below us in the standings. The LF does not want to acknowledge this but there would be plenty of downside opportunity with a coaching change.

UVA took our Tony, I say we roll out the big bucks and take theirs. He might be ready for a change. You never know until you ask.
Realistically, I don't think Brownell leaves unless he screws up badly in post-season play. (If then.)

He makes less in base pay than Brownell because he wants to be at UVA and chooses to reinvest in the program. His compensation is based largely on incentives that he routinely hits. UVA's ability to pay isn't even an issue.

As of 2023, Bennett has led Virginia to the program's first NCAA Tournament Championship, third Final Four, second and third ACC Tournament Championships, and six of eleven seasons Virginia has finished first in the ACC season standings.

He genuinely lives in terror that we’ll move on from Brownell and he (Cobbox) will lose that last little bit of influence he thinks he has within the AD. He’s a boomer that’s been left behind by the football program but he can still afford to buy proximity to Brownell and feel Important. It’s really transparent and gross.

Not surprised at all that the women's BB coach was given her walking papers. A horrible won-lost record. in the case of Brad, He'll win a first round ACC Tournament game, then lose in the second round. In the NCAAs, He'll lose either in the 1st, if not, for sure the 2nd round. He's quite predictable. Remember: he's done this for 14 years. Old habits die hard.

IDK but the coots found Paris and they finished 3-1 with a tough 4 game stretch. We went 2-2 against mediocre comp. If they can find a coach then we can too. I don’t care if we get a dud. You then fire and hire until you get the one that changes Clemson BB forever.

Goodness, have we learned nothing from football? Dabo Swinney was ON THE STAFF and was a better option than Tommy Bowden and only the AD really had figured out that. And plus, I'd say we've had several better coaches than Brownell (Barnes, Purnell, Ellis all accomplished more). Yes, he's the winningest coach in program history. He's also the losingest. As for names? Greg Buckner Will Wade Bob Richey Pat Kelsey And that's without really even thinking about it.
