Marvin Jones, Jr.: A former five-star recruit, the current No. 5 ranked transfer LB/DL and No. 31 overall transfer picked FSU after leaving Georgia.
Jalen Brown: A one-time top-100 overall recruit, the No. 11 transfer wide receiver and No. 55 overall transfer comes over from LSU this offseason.
Shawn Murphy: The No. 5 transfer linebacker and former four-star recruit picked the Seminoles after transferring out of Alabama.
Roydell Williams: The former No. 5 recruit from Alabama departed the Crimson Tide for the Noles after emerging as the No. 7 transfer running back in the cycle.
Malik Benson: Once the No. 1 JUCO player in America, the No. 19 ranked transfer wide receiver left Alabama for Florida State.

All they had to do is learn FSU's system.

Why would the UGA wr be leaving if he’s so developed? Same for LSU guy. Same for DJ (seems he’d have followed his coach to MSU).

The rest are all just ok takes and not as talented as our roster.

Don't like the coaching staff.
Don't like the school they initially chose.
Their skill set is a better fit for another system.
Friends in their new team.
Homesick/New school closet to home.
Higher in the depth chart at the new school.
Better NIL.
Favoritism/playing lesser talented players ahead of them.
I'm sure that's not the entire list of reasons.

1) They just weren't as good as the players ahead of them
2) Weren't getting the playing time they wanted
And so they left.
That's usually why players leave Clemson.
Why it would be different at other schools?
And not all 5 stars pan out. We've seen that lately.

Those are the guys we should be going after.
Look at some of the guys FSU brought in. They improved their team, while we sat on our hands and did nothing.
It’s ridiculous to think that no one in the portal is good enough to contribute for us.

Good point JK. Definitely the OP listed several top portal players looking to play on a bigger state. Makes sense FSU got guys from Bama, UGA, LSU to make it big time playing against the likes of packed out 60k stadiums like BC, Duke, UVA, Stanford, Miami…, I mean that makes so much sense those developed studs wishing they could come to Clemson

to teams that use the portal. In all cases, those teams got major contributions from players they obtained from the portal.
So those guys were certainly good enough to bet us. That should tell you something.

Maybe they would have a spot or two on the roster for better players.
How has every team figured it out but Clemson

Stop giving so many nepotism scholarships. Coaches sons. Friends sons. Etc etc. we lose 7 and give those scholarships to walk-ons. I’d rather see a stud WR like the kid from FIU that had over 1000 yards receiving and averaged 93 yards a game. High character kid with experience and skills.

everyone of those players has to learn, in addition to a complex system, the coaches, their teammates, the culture, the process and procedures, how to thrive in a brand new eco-system and about 100 other things.
Don't presume humans are just plug & play. Without an exceptional coaching staff that has culled these additions for a number of form, style and cultural fit metrics you will not in just a camp or two gel a team instantly.

It’s going to be a long year for FSU. Just putting a bunch of players who looked good in high school together doesn’t work. The portal IMO is a great tool to add depth or to put a piece or two missing in place. Rebuilding an entire team through the portal is disastrous. I think there is a reason most of these players are in the portal and their egos are bigger than their actual talent.

Brownell hemorrhages his own recruits so heavily he couldn't field a team without the portal. And considering his largely mediocre results over the years we can all be thankful that he can now attract older kids developed elsewhere to contribute.

Clemson has had some highly rated players come and go and transfer who: "had an impressive school next to their name and impressive H.S. rating" but: THEY DIDN'T HAVE IT AT THE COLLEGIATE LEVEL!

I'd rather have 3-4 star recruits developed in-house that know a system from running for a few years, rather than 3 stars that didn't pan out in other places trying to adapt to a new system in 1 year. They're transferring for a reason, not sure if tomorrow will tell a lot against GT, but we'll see. Got a feeling you'll see the same DJ by the second half - FSU will have the first few drives scripted.

There are a couple guys on defensive line and the RB that looked like they have produced in college? The rest have pretty limited stats. But FSU also lost like ten more players to the portal than Clemson did. Is this list meant to be impressive?

Saw Marvin Jones Jr...so looked up Marvin Jones Senior.
Junior is an FSU legacy...Senior played at FSU..went first round and played 11 NFL seasons as a linebacker.

Yep, my personal opinion is most of these portal players have an ego problem and having 11 egos on the field turns into disaster. Portal is good for gap filling and depth, but not rebuilding an entire team.
