Whites need to ban NBA

When I did watched the nba - the stands were mostly white and whites are the ones who mostly pay for league to exist . After todays ruling when a person gets banned for a "lovers word spat " it's time for whites to take a stand againist media bulling and let the nba start getting its money from somebody else !!!!

I totally agree, when a billionaire can't make millions upon millions of dollars off the effort of individuals and feel free to insult a large portion of them time and time again without fear of any repercussions, none of us are safe.

If its at a perceived double standard, ok. Knock yourself out and rage away at that.
But in the case before us we have a billionaire who was caught saying some pretty insulting things, multiple times, about a large portion of both his fanbase and his employees. He's not being brought up on criminal charges (rightfully so) but he's gonna, of course, take a hit in the court of public opinion, and to the NBA that extends to the loss of profit. He made the deal to buy the team, now he's got to live with the contract he signed.

Exactly. It's all about the money. Sterling has always been tolerated bc of money, even got a Lifetime Achievement award from NAACP. These stories about him didnt just pop up, it's all about the money. No one ever cared what he thought until the tape was leaked. The NAACP isn't an organization that as a whole I have tons of respect for. I believe, in many ways, they've lost their way in actually fighting the battle for equality. Among those is their seeming willingness to overlook truly moving forward for simple fund-raising (enter the Billionaire with a very checkered past on racial comments being recognized).
But back to the point earlier, why does this, at all, upset you? Either it is contractually allowed or not. If it is, then it will be upheld. If it is not, it will surely be appealed via an actual civil court case. Either way, I see nothing to be upset over in regards to a man who said something stupid facing the repercussions of doing so.

This is kind of off topic but I remember a while back Lil Wayne was on Around the Horn discussing the ARod steroid stuff. Should a person be able to say whatever they want without any repercussions, no matter what? Or are you for normal societal repercussions for expressed opinions?
If you're just decrying a perceived double standard then rage on. I may disagree with it, but at least you have a point.
I just think this is a clear case of a man insulting a bunch of folks and the organization enacting moves to try and separate themselves from his statements, within the rules of the organization he willingly joined and accepted.

I can't go along with some of what is being said but I will say this, there are alot worse things going on that nothing is being done about. However, Sterling needs to go. Anybody with like views on race need not be in any position of power. That includes Jessa Jackson and the racist Al Sharpton.

might be something to consider.
after someone puts a gag on al sharpton, jerimiah wright, Thunder thighs Obama, jessie jackson, charles rangel among others. Why not bar them from their offices or from their churches? Why not?
But I copied another poster--I quit watching NBA when Byrd left.
As far as the Stirling case goes-----I don 't think it is illegal to not like black people--is it. Just politically incorrect.
I'm not fond of some black people--same with a lot of white people. I hear racist rants almost weekly--from all races, and pay no attention to any of them.
But, as a legal matter, they can not make the man sell his team. No way. No how?

I imagine they cannot legally force him to sell his team, but I've also heard that among the contracts he signed to buy the team were provisions by which the team would lose their membership to the league. That is, effectively, a death sentence to the team.
As such, it would be the choice of "lose the team's value" or "sell the team". Effectively forcing any sane businessman to sell.
No one has said it was illegal for him to not like black people. Folks are saying that saying it out loud (one time directly and many others slightly less directly) is a recipe for forcing the hand of the league you are a member of to distance itself from your world view.
There is a vast difference between the freedom to say what you want, and the freedom to suffer no contractual penalties for doing so.

I don't go to NBA games and not real sure why anyone would bother since it is boring as watching paint dry.
That said - I guess I am in that movement by default. I do wish that Whites would boycott the NBA - immediately and stand together on this issue. Denying a man his right to choose who he wants around him is just plain wrong and goes way past White/Black. I don't care if he states it openly or behind closed doors. Blacks do it - and so can any other race IMO. Unless you think Blacks have righta that nobody else has???

He has, on multiple occasions, been insulting to a large subsection of his fans and employees. The flack was flying and in an attempt to minimize the fiscal impact on the league the commissioner acted within his perceived powers (a court would have to rule on that as I obviously haven't seen the contract/charter).

For Silver to do this he probably had buy off from the other owners. The NBA had to do this - though I am surprised it was more than a 1 yr suspension in addition to the fine.
Legally he has the right and means to fight it. Seems to be quite an uphill battle. And if he did somehow win, no free agents would go there. No one would re-sign. No sponsors of value would go near the Clippers. His team would lose value.
He is disgraced and no amount of legal work will change things.
