So in checking out the coots last night, a few thoughts:

Nov 17, 2013, 8:24 AM

1) Their D is not great outside of Doo Doo. Florida almost beat them without a quarterback. If we can get the run game going I like our chances. Which brings up point #2,

2) The Chad needs to stick with the run even if we get behind. He has a tendency to panic with his play calling in big games when we get behind (see Orange Bowl, FSU game). Just be patient and set up the big plays. They will come.

3) GT's #45 was it? on D was good practice for us against Doo Doo. He gave us a preview of how to defend a stud on D. If our WRs can get open and TB can hit them, as in the GT game, I like our chances.

4) The coots' coaching staff are not all on the same page. It's really the OBC calling the shots and the rest trying to please him. That helps us. Stop Doo Doo and we stop the coots' ability to stop us.

5) I had forgotten what a dump the WB and SCar in general is compared to Clemson and DV. There is simply no comparison. But the rent is due on DV South and I want to see an empty stadium by the 3rd quarter when Tajh and the boys roll into Cola.

"If we can get our run game going"

Far too often our QB IS our run game.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

which is fine, if that's what it takes, but we have good RBs

Nov 17, 2013, 8:34 AM

it's more about the right play calling with the run, IMO.

It has nothing to do with play calling. Our run game suffers from lack of good oline play.

As far as your number 2 point. We will not beat South Carolina playing from behind so patience is not an option. If that dline pins their ears back, we are in big trouble!

WHO cares who is getting the yards? Yards are yards!!***

I doubt that the offensive team we saw last night will be the one we will see in a couple of weeks. Shaw couldn't hit open receivers behind the defense, and Davis appeared to be hurt. Defensively, they are pitiful tacklers, especially on the second level, so screens and short throws should be spot on for Sammy and company.

The leading rusher in the SEC only got about 9 carries. I think he was hurt. Add to that Shaw looked like the 3 star qb he was rated at out of HS and not the guy with the high qb rating.

I don't know if counting on that in two weeks is reasonable. Additionally, UF's o-line is prolly loaded with 4-5 star guys...a bit different o-line group than what TB and Morris have to work with.

if we can sustain drives, and not score so dang fast, we

will indeed wear them out. nah, i say go deep every play, their db's can't keep up, and the more they run, the less effective they are.

If we are behind, using the run to get ahead seems bizarre

Nov 17, 2013, 9:29 AM

The goal is to NOT get behind. It has been like opium to our teams since Dabo became HC. Once behind, we look like stoners out there making mistakes galore and just not having the drive.

But we are better this year in defending against the rush, so we have to expect SCar's plan is to go to the air, recent flaws and all for Shaw. They will target our weakest point in defense, the secondary. Fighting to score more by running against their air game might be fatal. At the very least we need GOOD balance, and need to keep their D on their toes. We have the weapons to do it. If they give us a few yards off the line to cover the field, we need to immediately take advantage. And Boyd often runs to do that. Deliberate pounding with Brooks and MacDowell may not be as effective and will surely eat up clock.

Sludge I couldn;t agree more with you

People forget, there are more 4 and 5 star O and D linemen sitting on the bench at Fla than are on USC or Clemson whole team

A 4-5 Florida team today is in trouble, has issues, may not be on the same page. However, as Muschamp said, Fla has lots of injuries across the board (like Maryland) the difference is he can tell them to forget playing fundamentals etc, just out muscle them and see what you can do

Result, 3rd string linemen backups across the board, higher ranked players coming out of high school stood up and whipped a team at home intact with a healthy line

Yea the stats show 400 yds total offense when Fla was holding teams to under 300 but the eye test was easy

Fla was a better team on the field tougher, even with all the injuries

The issue is who can we compare Fla to, who has the athletes Fla has on the schedule Unfortunately the only team played with similar recruiting levels as Fla is FSU

Who knows what happens on the 30th but I wouldn't base my gameday thoughts on the USC Fla game

Florida had makeshift o line and seemed to run easily against them

If the run is working the passing will get ugly and so could the score

If the run is shut down clowney will try to break another sack record on his last home game

My thoughts.

1. Shaw doesn't throw to receivers, he throws away from defenders. Sound crazy? Go watch the game again. When a white Jersey was in his tunnel vision he throws the ball where neither his guys nor the defender can get to it.

We don't have much to worry about in their passing game. Just put a jersey in his field of vision and he'll throw the ball away. With our speed in the secondary that shouldn't be a problem

2. We are left defending the run. Since we put on a clinic against GT we should be able to survive anything they try in the running game.

3. Their secondary is subject to miss assignments. Tajh will need time to go throught his progression if we are going to throw the ball over the top. Clowney isn't going to let that happen. We're gonna have to mix the play calling the right way to make a pass work.
