"Where were you" Clemson moments

Like the classic historical moments that people remember where they were exactly...
Does anyone have a "where were you" type of Clemson moment? Like something you remember seeing or hearing about and you'll never forget what you were doing when it occurred?
Hearing of a coaching hire, a death, a recruit, a moment in a game if you were not attending it or anything else.

but those two seem prominent and maybe not just to me.
Could be I misread, but just_the_TIP did not seem to need the where, more the moment & good think, because too many questions and TIP may be working for the FED.
No good can come of that.

Danny’s release - part of the student body powder keg that Robinson lit
Puntrooskie - coming right at us in the west endzone and all of us screaming “NOOOOO!!!”

Robinson didn’t light anything. The board of trustees did. They told Danny to keep his pie hole shut and Danny over played his hand. Bobby R is a good man That was loyal to Clemson.

A response to a "where were you" question would require your location at the time of the event.

Does anyone have a "where were you" type of Clemson moment?
That is the question from just_the_TIP's post. Anything additional is furthering that question.
Yours seems to be an assumption.
And again, yes I have had those moment[s], which I listed two.

1a - I was at the game on the hill. 1b - Sitting in a Hardee's eating.
That was your "where were you" questions as asked by the OP, and those are my answers.
See how this works everyone?

Brings back memories of 1981. Attended that one, and the Georgia game as well. Then the Orange Bowl and the rest of our championship games since then win or lose. Same for my wife, before and after we got married.
For the UNC game in 1981, in a wedding with a bunch of us from Clemson. The bride picked a weekend that Clemson was on the road, who knew both teams would be top 10. They are still married, Clemson Won, and The Citadel beat the coots in Columbia. A great day!

Three for me.
Gator Bowl against Pitt in 78 which was our 1st Bowl game.
Waffle House at the Jax Airport the next year when we heard that Woody Hayes had been hired. Our seats at the game were low on the Ohio State side and we could not see Woody hit Baughman.
Celebrating in the Orange Bowl after the National Championship win against Nebraska.

Yes, we were there too, so excited to go to a big bowl game, first in a long time. I don't remember our seats but remember they were pretty good. However, we weren't able to see or understand what happened with Woody Hayes. I don't think they said much over the loud speaker. We knew there was some kind of dust up. Didn't know the coach was involved until after the game and heard on the radio.

On the field near the hill carrying it on my shoulder. Then the majority of the people carrying it decide to move the post to the right and it’s directly and squarely on top of my head. Soooo… thought a FG post was going to snap my neck there for a few seconds.
Good times.

Hearing about Jim Phillips’ death. I was only in middle school so I don’t know if I fully understood the impact he had on Clemson sports but i did know him as the voice from the first time I could recall.
I was heading into math class and my teacher who was a Clemson fan, told me and one other student who was the other big Clemson fan in the class before we walked it.

I could take you to the spot I was standing when I found out about the Challenger blowing up and 9/11. Completely floored.
We watched the Challenger launch in the 5th grade.

Spring 1996
I was walking in the hallway between my bedroom and my parents room when I heard unimaginable screaming and hollering downstairs. It turned out that Buckner had just dunked on UNC for the win in the 1996 ACC Tourny.

That was one of the ones I was going to pick. The other was when Tony Christie hit that runner to force the first overtime in the Sweet 16 against Minnesota in 1997. The other one is when Tate George hit that stupid shot in the Sweet 16 in 1990. Both those teams were good enough and should have went to the Final Four. I will forever believe that had either of those teams won those games, they would have made the Final Four.
For football it would be the FSU games in 1988, 1989, 1992, 1993, 2003, 2009, 2011, 2013, 2014, and 2015. Lots of FSU games because they were either colossal beatdowns or unbelievable victories. South Carolina games of 1987, 1989, 2009, 2016, and 2018. UGA game in 1991, NC State games of 1989, 2000, 2001, 2002, and 2016. Georgia Tech games in both 2000 and 2004, and 2011. Bone crushing despair. The BC headache powders games in both 2007 and 2008, and the Alabama games of 2008, 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2018.
I know that’s a lot, but the three that stick out the quickest, oddly enough, are basketball with UCONN game in 1990, the Buckner “Dunk Heard Round the ACC” in 1996, and the Sweet 16 Minnesota game in 1997.

I'll never forget Montana scoring in that ND game. Lower middle left side of hill. I remember balling my eyes out.
Distinctly remember driving to sugar mountain around Christmas and a few flakes flying. Me and sis listened through static AM radio on clemson network the Bobby Knight Indiana basketball game... will never forget the GOAT announcing it.

Sitting in the Amphitheater in June 1942, as a 12 year old, for the graduation of my oldest brother. At the conclusion of the passing out of diplomas and commissioning service two buglers, hidden from view on each side of the Amphitheater played Taps. Everyone knew that a week later all the freshly commissioned Second Lieutenants would go on active duty and to an unknown future. To this day, 81 years later, every time I hear Taps played, I recall and feel some of those deep emotional moments. You could sense the entire crowd was filled with those same feelings. Luckily my brother survived three years in the South Pacific, having been wounded three times.

Missed Stabler but saw Danny Ford play in '69 and the rest you mentioned plus Doug Flutie.
Was at Chaoel Hill for the 1981 game. Didn't have tickets. A friend of ours was head if the CH Optimust club and we made and sold out over 144 dozen hot dogs before kickoff. Watched from one of the Portals. When we blocked the punt for a safety the Tarheel beside us said. "All I have to say is £#@% Clemson. Please don't hit me in the mouth!" We just laughed.

I'll mention two from the 70s:
1977 - In Cootlumbia at the Roach, Clemson vs UofSC, Jerry Butler "the catch". I grabbed my bud, Ronnie (now deceased) and lifted him over my head, yelling can you believe this. We partied over that one.
1978 in Jacksonville at the Gator Bowl Clemson vs O31-0 State, "the end of Woody Hayes". Like most everyone else, when Woody Hayes hit Charlie Bauman, I was in shock. The only thing I could say to the people around was that we just saw history. After that Hayes was suspended and never coached again.

Three more and two are from 1981 and the 3rd from 1992.
1981 - September 12th in the Superdome to watch Clemson vs Tulane. The Tigers survive the "trap game" winning 13 - 5 after making two field goals in the 4th QTR to get the 8 pt win. Fact - that's the only win Clemson has ever had in that building and has never won a bowl or CFP championship game in the "dome".
1981 - November 7th on my couch holding my 2 day old son watching the Tigers hold #9 UNC to 84 yards rushing on 42 carries and winning 10 - 8. Welcome to Clemson football son!
1992 - October 17th in Memorial Stadium for Duke vs Clemson. The Tigers won 21 - 6 but that wasn't the best part. My career took me away from SC and all over the country. After finally settling in IL, this was the first opportunity to take my son to a Tiger game. Yes, the same 2 day old who laid on my chest in 1981 for the UNC game was now 11 years old and at his first Clemson game. In the big picture, that Duke game is low on importance but for us it was a day to always remember. Welcome to Death Valley son!

I was in the student section for the Rod Gardner “push off” catch and game winning FG! What a great memory!

First day of Political Science class after Bobby Kennedy

assassination- professor had obsessively talked about Bobby's greatness all semester and when I heard of his death the day before, I wondered how the prof was taking it. He did not show up for class, and before we could leave, someone came in to take his place and told us he had committed suicide.

The Renfrow catch
Jan 24, 2023, 9:31 AM

I was in the parking lot at a huge tailgate in Tampa watching on big TVs. The fireworks went off before the snap occured on TV. Everyone went nuts, but then calmed down for a second because we weren't sure if we had scored if bama had made the stop because either way the fireworks would go off for either team. Then once the play occurred on TV everyone went nuts again.

Mine is incredibly recent mainly because I haven't been a fan for nearly as long as most on this board, but watching them win the natty against bama with that last minute "pick" play to Renfrow was incredible. I was with my cousin, who I actually converted into a Clemson fan watching at my house. It was the first time I ever had one of my teams win it all so it was a great feeling especially considering the year before losing to bama.
Watching Deshaun march downfield, Leggett and Williams making great catches, is something I will remember for a long, long time.

Deshaun Watson - Houston - blowing the doors off the Kansas City Chiefs and Patrick Mahomes in the playoffs - for about 30 minutes.
I was in the New Orleans French Quarter with about 40,000 other Clemson fans.

#4 to #13 for the National Championship 2016***

Watching with friends at my house. We were all jumping and screaming, hugging each other, and picking each other up. Then, the hurried plan to go to Academy Sports to get our National Championship gear. Waited in line in the cold weather for at least two hours only to tell us they had run out of men's clothing when we were 5 feet from the entrance.
Also, the Geno's Mom debacle. I was on TigerNet most of that day.

The first time Clemson played Alabama

For the national championship I was sitting in my hotel bar in Mazatlan Mexico. It was a pre purchased trip.
And then the second time we beat Alabama for the championship, I was in a bar in Tijuana Mexico.
Thanks for reminding about those fond memories.

Me and my roommate took a cooler of beer to Bowman field and watched the apartments across the street burn down when I was a Freshman in 2003. There were a ton of other students doing the same. It was wild, there must have been 5 or 6 big fire trucks spraying all around it.

I remember where I was when we ended the streak at UNC. I killed my first duck that morning, and Dad and I listened on the radio because we could not get it on TV.
