OL Recruits

I just read the article on Maverick Morris. Glad he's coming to Clemson. Then went to ESPN Recruiting website and went through all the top rated OL prospects. Am I the only one that is worried by the fact that we seem to be really weak at recruiting OL guys? We're great at skill players and defense but our OL always seems to be weak.

Been a weakness of years

Gotta start somewhere, though. Maverick's still growing and should be solid for us. He had a late growth spurt that's keeping him out of the top rankings.

where are you going to find room for them?

after morris, 1 maybe 2 more tops. crowder and droogsma are both high on clemson. ____ cu will have 15 or 16 OL on scholarship depending on where Reader plays. at most the coaches take 2 this cycle. would be nice to get 1 that could play OT.

Good point. I didn't bother to look at who we already have because all the media constantly talks about our OL being a weakness.

"As much as everyone loves the chemistry between quarterback Tajh Boyd and receivers Sammy Watkins and DeAndre Hopkins, there are major questions about who is going to block up front." - Athlon Sports
"Key players to a successful season: The offensive linemen. Yeah, the defense is firmly under the microscope entering 2012, but the offense will once again be the calling card at Clemson. And the only potential stumbling block for the unit is an inconsistent O-line replacing three starters"-College Football News

the front as they should; it will make or break clemson this year.
doesn't change clemson had the mackey award winner, 1st team center and remington nominee, 2 tackles that made all conference.
we have numbers which you were worried about, talented and hungry according to the staff, just young other than freeman.
they need to grow up quick.

centers and guards. Not enough OTs. We have guys who are really OGs playing tackle. That's the only problem with our depth at any position.

By the way, how were Richardson and Hairston rated out of high school? 2 stars.

We do have good depth and talent at Oline, but very little experience.
Also, our talent level at Oline has been historically low (Some 4 stars we got were duds like McClain).
That should be changing in a few years considering we are constantly increasing our talent level.
Also, I don't see why we wouldn't take both Droogsma and Crowder.
Oline sees the most injuries, attrition, or lack of development as any position in football. Taking 3 Oline every year should be a general rule.

Lets say we have 9 spots left (I'm expecting we sign 20)
1-2 DB: Hopefully Fuller/Alexander/Kearse 1 RB: Green/Dye 2 WR: Jenkins, North/Robinson 2 OL: Droogsma, Crowder 1 DT: Adams/Hill or someone else 1 LB: Bryant or Kalambaya
Seems good to me.

There's a big difference in SEC vs. ACC OL recruiting

here are some OLmen recruiting since 09 for several teams
the 1st number is how many recruits they got, the other numbers break the total down into the ranking of the OLmen
USC
2013 - 4 total -- 1-4* and 3-3* 2012 - 5 total -- 2-4*, 2-3* and 1-2* 2011 - 6 total -- 1-4* and 5-3* 2010 - 6 total -- 1-4* and 5-3* 2009 - 3 total -- 2-3* and 1-2*
24 Olmen over the last 5 years - 5 of them at least 4 or 5 *'s -- only 2 of them are 2*s or less
UGA
2013 - 3 total -- 1-4* and 2-3* 2012 - 3 total -- 1-5* and 2-3* 2011 - 6 total -- 5-3* and 1-2* 2010 - 3 total -- 1-4* and 2-3* 2009 - 4 total -- 3-4* and 1-3*
19 Olmen over the last 5 years - 6 of them at least 4 or 5 *'s -- only 1 of them are 2*s or less
FSU
2013 - 2 total -- 2-4* 2012 - 2 total -- 2-3* 2011 - 7 total -- 3-4*, 3-3* and 1-2* 2010 - 1 total -- 1-3* 2009 - 3 total -- 1-4* and 2-3*
9 total Olmen over the last 5 years - 6 of them at least 4 or 5 *'s -- only 1 of them are 2*s or less
Clemson
2013 - 1 total -- 1 no ranking 2012 - 4 total -- 1-4* and 3-3* 2011 - 4 total -- 4-3* 2010 - 3 total -- 3-3* 2009 - 2 total -- 2-4* (TJ never played because of injury) so really only 1-4*
13 total Olmen over the last 5 years - 2 of them at least 4 or 5 *s -- only 1 of them 2* or less
each school may add more this year
but each of the SEC schools brought in many more Olmen and top rated Olmen over the last 5 years, I would bet it would be about the same with DLmen
