We should have an all court press on to get this done. Anyone that has any real insight please chime in.

I think many of us believe that is the reason for "Clemson Elevate". One of their pillars is to double research in the next 10yrs

https://www.clemson.edu/elevate/strategic-pillars/research/index.html

I don't think the 2035 date was an accident. It was to be in a position to be AAU level just before the GOR expired

Hopefully, that research wasted money will be cut off by Trump.

I doubt we are studying Knoxville transvestites. Your mileage may vary.

Congrats on a completely moronic response that defies actual real world logic and in no way furthers the conversation

Do we want to be an AAU university? Clemson is a R1 Carnegie research university so we are a top research university. The thing about being AAU is they want stuff like research like the efficiency of shrimp on treadmills on Mars. Meanwhile Clemson has world class partnerships with BMW, etc that isn't as highly regarded for reason I don't understand other than AAU snobbery.

Iowa State pulled their AAU membership a few years ago. Not worth it and ever Iowa State grad I've worked with is top notch. Great school but they got tired of the money spent for a old fogey designation.

Oregon is AAU and doesn't even have a college of engineering. What the heck?? They don't have a medical school.

BIG 10 conference strongly prefers AAU status to become a member so while be another feather in the cap of the University it COULD give us favorable status should we want to join the BIG 10 in 5-10yrs

Yes, that is understood. But right now Oregon and U Wash aren't even getting equal revenue from the B1G and they are AAU. The B1G is going to have to make right with them before taking on others and who knows when that'll happen.

I am all for AAU for academic reasons. But lets not pretend this AAU isn't just snobbery and the truth is if the B1G is going to take an AAU snob school it'll likely be UNC.

My point is all this panic about AAU for the dream of joining the B1G is misplaced.

I am very much with you, the academic reasons are really all we need.

I do view it as it also give us another potential avenue athletically. I do think there will be some sort of super league made up of SEC/B1G and some of the other major powers in ACC, B12, etc. If SEC doesn't want or need us we at least have a path to the B1G

More options are better than less

Seriously cant believe in 2025 some people can't see the importance of federal funding for research regarding the efficiency of treadmill shrimp on Mars. Jim Crow much!?!?

I figured that is what was happening with the addition of women's Lax, gymnastics, softball, etc....

We need to get a wrestling team back. Clemson was a top 10 wrestling program before they dropped it under suspicious conditions in 1994.

Unfortunately the Board of Trustees keeps approving enrollment increases.

This increases our acceptance rate, lowers average GPA/test scores of admitted students, and makes it easier to get into Clemson.

Being in a state like South Carolina, with one of the lowest ranked public school systems, will hinder us as we continue to grow since a majority of students have to come from SC. That will only drag down the quality of the freshman class.

This isn’t a bash of SC, it’s just reality. Clemson is a great school but it needs to remain highly selective. As a Clemson alum, I want to see our school continue to improve in academic quality and become more selective. We aren’t supposed to be a school for everybody, we have universities in Columbia for that.

Yikes, what a yucky perspective. Clemson's roots are not born in elitism.

Plus, AAU doesn't necessarily mean an academically superior institution. Lots of these rankings and certifications are based on things that don't actually translate to quality research/education. Ivy League's reputation has taken a major hit after a lot of the anti-logical, anti-quality things they have been doing lately.

Also, I can tell you from professional experience that school rankings are largely illegitimate as well. The schools I went to in SC were far superior that the one I went to in GA. Lots of good and bad schools everywhere.
