But my doctor has credentials and experience that I do not. So, when he gives his diagnosis, I defer to his expertise.
When my truck makes a funny noise, I form an opinion on what is wrong. But my ASE certified mechanic who has been running his own shop successfully for twenty plus years tells me what is wrong. I defer to his expertise and experience.
If you get it give me a thumbs up. If you don't I probably can't help you.

Yeah but that's also because you grew up without the internet and the way humanity is learning is completely different.
Baby Boomers need to realize that the generations behind them are exponentially smarter.
It's simply because we have the resources at our fingertips.
Does it mean we know everything, no.
But it does mean I'm fully capable of diagnosing an upper respiratory infection for myself and taking antibiotics to eliminate the infection.
It also means that I can list out symptoms of my vehicle on a forum online and usually have someone who's experienced enough to say check the alternator or it's probably just a purge valve, and from there I can spend 50-75 dollars in parts and fix my vehicle after watching a couple of youtube videos showing me how.
I get that there are plenty of dumb ones still out there who use technology simply to watch dumb videos on the internet but some of us have been using it as a tool to learn at an exponential rate.

Speak for yourself. I know I'm learning at a faster pace than I ever did in school. I can learn more from chatgpt in an hour than I did all of high school.
In the last two years I've been able to learn about dynamic load capacity and structural engineering to sell flooring systems at the highest commercial level thanks to the internet.
I've taught myself the piano in the last two years from the internet.
I'm also learning German and I know enough from the internet to be able to hold conversations with my bosses from our manufacturing facility in Germany.
We are learning at an exponential rate and honestly I think that boomer's problem with the generations behind them, is that you are jealous that you didn't have the same resources because you would all be a lot smarter.

Learning at an exponential rate means that your rate of learning increases over time, resulting in rapid growth or improvement. In practical terms, this means that as you learn, you not only accumulate new knowledge or skills, but you also become better at learning itself, leading to even faster acquisition of new knowledge or skills
As I mentioned, Piano in two years (I play out and could fill in for your church pianist after 2 years of learning). My church pianist spent 20 years learning.
Hence the term exponential.
German to the point of conversing with native Germans within a year.
Hence the term exponential.
Maybe you need to learn what it means. Moran!

Exponential growth refers to an increase that becomes more rapid over time, following a consistent pattern where the quantity doubles at regular intervals. This growth starts off slowly, but as it progresses, the rate of growth accelerates significantly. In this process, each new amount is a multiple of the previous one, leading to larger increases as time goes on. If you think that describes your learning, you are an idiot. You have limits no matter how smart you believe you and your generation to be. Yes, your learning can increase over time, but there are periods of leveling off and possibly even diminishing in some time intervals. It's called being finite. It's called being human.
German to conversing with native Germans in a year is most likely very rapid growth early and levels off over time. It is a logarithmic growth model most likely.
Also if you are going to call someone a moron, it makes you look smarter when you spell it correctly.

"Moran" is TNET's sardonic way of saying someone isn't on par with the level of intelligence required to sustain a meaningful conversation.
I don't think you know how to read because you clearly expanded on the same exact thing I said, boomer.

is it?
The term "moran" can have various meanings depending on the context:
1) Geographical Term: In some regions, particularly in East Africa, the term "moran" is used to refer to a young male warrior or herdsman, typically belonging to certain ethnic groups like the Maasai in Kenya and Tanzania. These young men undergo specific rites of passage and are responsible for protecting their communities and livestock. 2) Surname or Personal Name: "Moran" can also be a surname or personal name in various cultures. 3) Statistical Term: In statistics, particularly in the field of spatial analysis and spatial statistics, the Moran's I statistic is used to measure spatial autocorrelation - that is, the degree to which the values of a variable are spatially clustered.

I understand it's meaning on T-net.
On a Nole board I post on we have a similar, but different word, meaning the same thing. We use "maroon."
"Everyone on the Nole board knows the meaning of "What a maroon."
But, since I am an old guy who easily gets confused I refrain from using either "moran" or "maroon" because I'll probably use it on the wrong board and then someone will refer to me as a moran or maroon because they will assume I don't know proper English.
So, let it be clear, I may be stupid but I am not a mountain in the Grand Tetons nor a Mississippi State fan.

Exponential growth means at an ever increasing rate. Simply learning at a faster rate is not exponential. And nothing about the internet makes you “become better at learning itself”. That’s silly. It simply increases the ease and availability of resources. It hasn’t reprogrammed your brain - at least not in any positive way.
As for your piano play, I don’t believe for a second that you play as well in 2 years as your church pianist does in 20. That’s absurd too. Unless your church has a particularly terrible pianist. It also ignores that certain people have wildly varying aptitudes for musical instruments. Some people play by ear without ever having taken a single lesson - internet or otherwise. But you aren’t going to play a Rachmaninoff Concerto at a virtuoso level because you watched YouTube for 2 years. If I took you at face value you could say “I reached a specific level of competency at the piano exponentially faster than my church pianist” but that certainly isn’t what you said or what you were trying to imply with your first comments in this thread.
If you are adept at learning music and languages perhaps you are right brained and are ascribing newer methods of learning the credit where lack of appropriate stimulation was really what was holding you back. You do realize people learned to speak multiple languages and perform music at young ages for hundreds of years right?
You seemed firmly rooted in stage one of the Dunning-Kruger effect.

I'm well aware of the multiple languages and instruments that people learned throughout history.
You see when my church pianist learned theory, she learned by reading sheet music and she could site read better than anyone I've ever met. She played the most beautiful arpeggios note for note.
But if I told her to play a 1-5-6-4 in the key of b flat she would have no idea what to do. You see over time the music industry has also evolved and created a system to learn theory at a rapid rate. It's called the Nashville Number system. It was originally developed in the 50's and 60's to allow musicians to fill in anywhere or any style of music. You simply need to know that the 1-4-5 of each key is the major chords and that the 2-3-6 are minors. The 7th is diminished. Once you create a fundamental understanding of the 12 major keys you can then begin working in diatonic and passing chords built on the landing major 7th.
Once you understand that you can then replicate the pattern all the way up the key board. So to your point you are right I probably couldn't play Rachmaninoff note for note. But you could remove the non-diatonic notes and chromotismatic patterns and simplify it to a 1-4-5-7 in the key of F sharp and from there your assumption is correct, I have a great ear and would pick out at least the important melodies.
Maybe I am more inclined to learn music and languages but it doesn't diminish my point that the internet has been a great vehicle to get me to the places I want to be.

I assure you, the church pianist you reference did not take lessons for 20 years. Yes, we continually learn and improve at our craft. Life should always involve learning and growing. Here is a piece of advice for self learning. Your post comes across condescending and arrogant. There’s no need for that, and you lose whatever point it was you’re trying to make; Unless it was to show that you can be rude and condescending.
A better way: “Technological advances has provided my generation and the ones to follow-up a leg up in accelerated learning….”

Indeed. Perhaps one thing that AI cant teach

… are human qualities like humility, grace, and empathy.
And while you can learn to play the piano well through technology and learn another language, you can read all about Brasil, learn Portuguese, and how to play futebol (soccer) … but it is not the same as experiencing living there and spending 10,000 hours leaning how to play the game itself.
While you can learn a lot fast through AI, you likely will not learn to appreciate and truly understand it the same as if you actually experienced it “live” and grew through the trials and tribulations of failure, and learned to overcome.
I pray that in your quest to learn, you don’t lose your humanity.

Exponential means multiple of ten. As a recent college student in my late 50’s, I’ve seen the idiocy of these latest generations. Forget simple math. They can’t add beyond ten. Exponentially lower than the complex computations I can do in my head. They fail out of advanced courses at a higher rate than my generation did. I got my first degree in 1992. My second in 2004. My third in 2023. I started my Doctor of Psychology degree which is medical school with a focus on mental health. Each year it seems the overall intelligence has dropped significantly. Hence the dropping of the bar for harder degrees nowadays.

He lost me at “Baby Boomers need to realize that the generations behind them are exponentially smarter.”.
Boomers watch YouTube videos too. And the internet is the biggest source of misinformation in the world. You still have to be able to separate good information from misinformation. Nothing replaces experience. I don’t care how many videos you watch of someone else doing something, you don’t know how to do it until you’ve done it yourself.
Here’s a question, if the younger generations are so much smarter, how are so many internet influencers getting rich off them without providing anything more than an opinion?

People like yourself taking antibiotics on their own because they think they are so smart is why we have bateria that are becoming resistant to anti-biotics. It's not just knowledge of the infection...it is exactly which infection you have and then which antibiotic is the correct one. It also being monitorsd to follow through until the bateria are dead.
Now for a host of other things like car repairs or home repairs this boomer is not stupid. We have Youtube. There's no excuse to say you don't know how to do something anymore, but experts exist for a reason because there is more to a repair than there is learning about how. IT comes down to the cost of tools , but moreso to the cost of the learning curve. Can you afford for your car to sit in your garage all torn apart for a month or do you need it in two days?
Many people have never ever pounded a nail before. They could watch 1000 Youtube videos on how to pound a nail and they would STILL SUCK AT POUNDING NAILS because its a learned skill.

Boomers like yourself jumping to conclusions is why your generation sucks a$$.
I use naturopathic forms of medicine the same that were used with civilizations for thousands of years.
Natural remedies for myself and children like local honey as an alternative to amoxicillin. If Honey alone isn't strong enough you can mix it with Tumeric and Ginger and it usually does the trick.
Elohim provided all the medicines we need.
Do you think that the pharmaceutical manufacturer's have these magical chemicals stored away that humans solely created?
And do you really need to have someone monitor your fever for you? You can't keep a check on that yourself? Boomers think they need an expert for everything but in reality it's an excuse so you can stop learning.

Surgery is when I go to modern medicine. I tore my achilles tendon playing basketball. I obviously didn't rub ginger on it and hope for the best. I had an MRI, surgery, rehab.
But most common illnesses like the flu, doesn't require a doctor. Most everyone in the upstate has a sweet gum tree on their property. Boomers will tell you that "a sweetgum aint good for nothin', it won't even split with an ax hardly"
But in reality sweet gums (the little spikey ball) in its green state can be used to make a syrup when combined with the sap of the tree and a solvent contains the active ingredient in tamiflu.

Boomers tend to trust all the experts without abandon. You can’t tell me that you haven’t all at least encountered a time or two when an expert was wrong about something or didn’t necessarily have the best and most thorough logical troubleshooting methods.
If I were a Boomer, I would have had unnecessary surgery on my brain. I had to redirect the head of Neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins away from that when it didn’t make sense. Turned out to be a liquid cyst most likely, not a tumor in my temporal lobe, that disappeared completely over the next few years.
Would probably be as dumb as a Boomer from the damage done.

Do you even know any boomers? I don’t know anyone my age who needs an expert for everything. Now I do know a lot of younger folks who need an expert for everything and they think anyone that posts on the internet is an expert. Probably because they just told them they were an expert. I saw a post the other day from someone who claimed to be an expert on nutrition because they had taken a class. Turned out they had listened to a 2 hour podcast on the internet and that made them an expert.

and you're presenting a false choice. Both honey and amoxicillin have medicinal properties, and can be used for treatment.
Speaking of honey, I worked with the CEO of Pass the Honey a couple of years ago, and interviewed him for a client project. He described the honey industry as worse than the mafia---between adulteration and dilution for economic gain, to the presence of agro-chemicals in "organic" honey (of which there is no USDA certification), to the fact that the US imports more Manuka honey each year than is actually produced (implying massive global fraud)---I'm not sure it's the best example of an alternative to Big Pharma.

Are you watching the world burn down right now?
After the Boomers, comes Gen X, and after that there is a gigantic drop off of intelligence, and ability.
With each generation we're getting dumber, not smarter. Don't think so? Ask a boomer if men can have babies, or if 2+2 = 4? Then ask a Millennial, or a Gen Z, the same questions and check the responses.
People the world over are stupider than their parents, and grandparents were. We're sliding backwards my friend. Look around...Rome is burning.

That’s absolute BS. I’m at the edge of being a baby boomer and went back to school for my 3rd and 4th degrees recently. This generation is dumb. Plain stupid. They can’t grasp simple math. Most classes considered hard had a failure rate of around 65-70%. Most of those students were on their last attempt to pass the course or change majors. I found making 4.0 incredibly easy because they lowered the bar for these courses since my last degree.
I also found them incredibly lazy. If they couldn’t find their research easily they didn’t understand how to access journals in the library. If it required any real effort, count them out.
Of course there were exceptions but they were few and far between. Usually by time we hit capstone courses, most of those kids had already phased out who could barely pass. I don’t feel like I’m the exception either. Most folks closer to my age seem to have more brains than any of the last three generations.

The coaches know better than us. Save our opinions for...for where exactly? A message board is an exchange of ideas. Where do we go? Who do we tell?
I suppose you are asking me not to trust my own eyes and ears about what I saw and heard at the spring game. In person, not just what the cameras showed me. Not just what David Hood told me.
For years I've been told that we can't judge how a guy like Pearman does in mop-up duty where our 2nd and 3rd team may be better or worse than the other team's starters or twos or threes. Reserve judgment for when we're comparing apples to apples.
Orange team offense was essentially our first team offense (minus Mafah and Briningstool) on any given Saturday factoring in ordinary injuries and such. White team defense was essentially 11 guys that could start any given week--our defense at about 85% which is better than most defenses we will face in the regular season. That matchup was the closest thing we will see to best vs best.
Likewise, white offense vs orange defense was 2s vs 2s with a few regular-season starters mixed in to make the matchup watchable.
What I saw Saturday was: * Cade looking pedestrian against our 1st team defense * Vizz looking dreadful against our 2nd team D * Pearman calmly moving the ball against both defenses with whatever weapons he had
The ONLY argument you can make for CK2 or CV17 over TP14 is scrambling ability after being touched. Those were sacks in the spring game, and in live action you could envision Cade scrambling for a 15-yard gain OR looping backwards for a 20-yard loss. But under the restrictions in place, Pearman looked like a five-star and the other two looked like walk-ons.
I hesitate to use this example lest I be called a coot by some mouth-breather, but I will. Trent Pearman is the Connor Shaw of our roster. He doesn't have the most stars and would be largely overlooked based on measurables, but he gets the job done.
It's funny that Dabo, being a former walk-on himself, will only sniff the jock straps of five-star quarterbacks and won't give a Trent Pearman a legitimate shot to lead this team.

There may be an exception in TP is the Connor Shaw of our roster. I don't know that. I saw the one scrimmage that you saw. The coaches see practice every day and the other scrimmages not open to the public. So, I will trust their judgment on who should start.
That being said, and I did post yesterday, that if TP is our best QB and he looked it on Saturday, he should start.
There is some deftness that needs to be displayed by the coaches in handling naming a starter. If you come out and on the basis of the spring game, name TP the starter, there is a distinct possibility that both Cade and CV transfer. Then you had better be right about TP and he better stay healthy or it could be down to you or me playing if he goes down. Yes, I have all four years of eligibility remaining, but I am not very good.
My post was aimed at those that betray their belief by their comments that Dabo is incapable of making good and hard decisions regarding this team. He has proven he can and does. He has six straight playoff appearances and to NC's to show for it. That by the way equals Ryan Day and Kirby Smart combined.

We know that he can.
He has also shown that he will, whether it be benching Cole Stoudt and replacing him with Deshaun Watson, or benching Kelly Bryant and replacing him with Trevor Lawrence.
He has also shown that he can be extremely stubborn, including sticking with DJ Uiagalelei when our offense stunk.
In other cases, it can be argued that Dabo was slow to change, and could've made a faster decision to rectify an issue.
Just because Dabo has had high level success in the past, it doesn't mean he will always make the correct decisions.
Besides, Dabo's high level success is become less recent each day. Our run of greatness from 2015-2020 was incredible, but we have fallen a long way since then. We haven't been an elite program in over 3 years. We barely cracked the top 20 last year, so you can't blame people for hoping to see an encouraging performance in the spring game. When the result is a dud performance from our rising junior and 5 star QB, and ongoing concerns about our offensive line and receivers, the natives will be restless.
Thankfully, it's only April. We have the spring, summer, and early fall to work hard and get better. We think Dabo has made some really good assistant coaching hires recently, and hopefully that will translate into improved coaching and thus better performance on the field.

“Well, he’s the expert”, says Boomer.
I once had an emergency room doctor tell us that my son’s leg is ok and we should go home.
Rather than turn my brain off and Boomer that, I questioned why they weren’t at least doing an X-ray. He couldn’t even put any weight on it without intense pain. Doctor ageeed that was a good point.
The leg was broken. We left with him in a cast.
But it’s easier not to use your own brain! I guess that’s what some people prefer.

Here is my story about doctors. When I was 28 I went to see a doctor about a lump on my neck. I was told that it was a brachial cluster cyst and that if it wasn’t bothering me that I could deal with it later. Over the next 6 years I saw 3 more doctors about the same lump. 2 of those doctors (ENT’s, ear nose throat) said the same thing as doctor #1, but the 3rd ENT diagnosed me as having Thyroid cancer after looking at me for 5 minutes. 27 years later all is well, however, I was straight up lucky. Had I had a deadly cancer, I would be dead.
The lesson, not all doctors are created equal. Ask questions. If you don’t like the answers, go ask another doctor.

I went to a highly regarded Orthopedic Surgeon about my knee pain. He thought I had arthritis. I thought I had a torn ACL. I insisted on MRI. I had torn ACL and Meniscus. Expert is not always right. I used to go to a mechanic that was the best in town. Cars changed. He did not keep up with the new technology. He had to retire.
Experts not always right. Past success does not guarantee future success.

Trent Pearman was the best QB Saturday in the spring game, and it wasn't close.
Both can be true.
That doesn't mean Cade hasn't been better in practice, or that Cade doesn't give us the best chace to win, or that Cade won't play lights out this fall. It just didn't look that way Saturday to anybody who is being honest.
I've been to the doctor before, complaining with particular symptoms - and they find nothing wrong. They may make a best guess diagnosis and treat accordingly, to no avail. It may take several visits and perhaps a specialist or two to find the real problem. They are all great doctors and I trust them with my healthcare, but some things are not what they initially seem to be, or are just more difficult to diagnose.

Well I hear you, but with close to 35 years as a technician in the Auto/Diesel field working mostly with dealerships, technicians are constantly pushed to sell, sell, sell whether you actually need it or not bc the dealership will make money on the parts mark up plus the time flagged to do whatever work they have convinced you that you need right now bc it will prevent you a higher cost later.
That type of sale is true and false all into one bc, the part that a dealership just talked you into purchasing, that part could've broken that day, but, that part could have lasted for the life of the vehicle, and that's the name of that tune with all man made products, but in the automotive technician field they are called parts, and they do need to sell them in order to get their money back that they spent to stock them....

What the OP is attempting to convey is that we as fans can speculate all day long, but the Head Coach who has ran a successful program for well over two decades probably has a better idea about what is going on with his team. Moreover, the expert probably has the ability to provide a better solution to any issues at hand. In other words, let the professional coach handle his duty and responsibility to his team. It’s what he gets paid well over $10M a year to do.

Agreed. However, I have medical education and usually have the diagnosis and prognosis nailed down before I enter the room. It’s usually my best guess based on experience and the doctor confirming it. I can’t diagnose myself legally or treat myself or I would to a certain extent. That’s usually where the specialist comes in. I’ve also had my fair share of misdiagnosis throughout my lifetime. Each “professional” is only as good as their training and IQ.
I also am quite good at diagnosing my vehicle problems. I’ve built about four hot rods from the ground up. I just choose to hire the work out instead of turning the wrenches myself anymore. Again, each mechanic is only as good as his training and IQ dictate.
I get what you’re getting at. However, I consider myself a content expert playing some type of sport every season until 28 years old. Basketball, baseball, softball, football, and was an avid runner. I also played semi professionally in baseball and in football leagues where travel money and the like were provided. It couldn’t be considered full professional. I also coached many youth team, women’s teams, and men’s team in multiple sports. I wasn’t considered great but I know more than the usual casual sports fan. I can read a defense and tell you what routes receivers should run in cover two, man press, or whatever. But, that’s not the point either.
I’m not a professional brisket smoker either. I can tell when a professional screws one up though. I can tell when a professional mechanic screwed up an install too. Your post has an underlying theme that we aren’t experts and not qualified to make judgements about sports. That’s an asinine idea. I can see when a team is not doing things right. I can also see when there’s a real problem that needs to be addressed. You better believe I made my voice known when it was time to fire Ken Hatfield, Tommy West, Tommy Bowden, Monty Lee, Larry Shyatt and a bunch of other head coaches that didn’t carry their weight. I earned that right by investing money into IPTAY and by being a donor most of my life. I’m not saying you have to donate but it makes your voice heard a little more.
I still can’t believe people don’t understand what a fan is. Fan is short for fanatic which is an unreasonable love or support for a group or activity. Fans aren’t rational. Fans are rabid. You best believe when I see the 100th ranked passing offense I’m going to point it out and start asking questions to try to get something fixed. This isn’t the sounding board (TigerNet) but it is a great place to get a general feel for how others are feeling. If you can’t call something out that’s wrong; what’s wrong with you?! I dare say it’s your responsibility to call out issues. Expert or not. You should be smart enough to see when there’s an issue.
All that said, you were probably one of those screaming “Don’t fire Hatfield, he’s a great guy! And Don’t fire Bowden, he’s a great guy!” Thank GOD all fans and boosters do NOT think this way.

Clemson culture. I loved the TB hire initially but was convinced in the end that he had taken us as far as he was able to. I will also acknowledge that your experience certainly makes you more qualified to diagnose and comment on problems than myself. That being said, my post was not meant to say we should not hold opinions, nor should we express them on social media platforms such as TNet. My post was mean to be a reminder that what we saw on Saturday was one scrimmage. Since you have the wealth of both playing and coaching experience, you certainly would agree that one scrimmage is a small sample size compared to the entirety of spring ball with all the practices and I believe three scrimmages. I have also said, not in this OP but in others there is both recent and geographically proximate (UGA) where a two star, walk on QB led them to a national title. If TP is the best QB and the solution to the problem, he certainly looked it on Saturday, then he should start. If he gives us the best chance to win, he should start. However, when the UGA game roles arrives, I will support the decision of the coaching staff, not just Dabo, but GR as well that the QB on the field is, in their professional opinion, the player that gives us the best chance to win.

Did you go to Clemson? It's hard to believe such a pompous ### is part of the Clemson family. You may be the most arrogant person I've ever encountered. And you're not very bright if you think it's appropriate to "paint with such a broad brush." I'm a proud Boomer. And I'd be willing to bet the farm that I've had fewer doctor visits in my 70 years than you have in your 16! Prior to having a hernia surgically repaired in 2018, my last doctor's visit was 25 years ago. I had a physical at my wife's insistence simply because I was "getting older" (at age 45). What you ignorantly fail to recognize is that Boomers grew up without "experts." There weren't medical specialists for every known bodily function in those days. "The family physician" was it. In addition, we worked on everything. Cars, boats, lawn mowers, stereo systems, home appliances, etc. And we did so without the aid of the internet. I use the computer 6 to 8 hours per day. I've learned plenty by utilizing the technology you reference. But I'm old enough, and wise enough, to know that I'll never know everything. So I don't need to arrogantly proclaim how brilliant I am. Those who feel the need to do so usually aren't. Yet I don't know you and won't attempt to assess your IQ. But you've got a lot to learn, and life has a funny way of teaching us. So good luck to you. Hopefully you'll place greater emphasis on learning something of humility before you get much older. It's obvious you haven't done so to this point in your life! Go Tigers!
