When do we finally admit that loyalty no longer exists with HS players either?

When do we finally admit that loyalty no longer exists with HS players either?

We just suffered our 5th decommitment of this class. People love to jump on the lack of loyalty among portal players, yet there is no loyalty among HS players either, as the dollars grow and business decisions are made. College football is mirroring the real world. Employers can virtually eliminate an employee for no reason, as long as it does not involve discrimination, particularly in right to work states. And employees are the ultimate free agents, bound by next to nothing that prevents them from leaving anytime they wish. Even non-compete agreements will most likely be eliminated.
We worry about this changing our culture but the reality is, our culture can't continue to succeed and compete at an elite level in this new world. The new rules have changed the culture of all of college football and that is not Dabo's fault. That is just reality of the changes in the game and government's involvement in allowing players to be paid for their name, image and likeness. We can debate whether this was right, or wrong but what there is no debate about, is that we are never going back. We will only move forward but the changes will most likely get even more favorable toward players, as time moves on, and universities will have to adjust in order to remain competitive at the highest levels.
This is just where we are and it is time the AD, BOD and coaches get in a room and address it. I've pulled for Dabo this entire time and I've tried to convince myself that he has earned the right to do it his way. I've simply come to the conclusion that his way cannot overcome the forces of a free and open market where restrictions have been removed and free market capitalism is now available to players as well. To refuse to change is simply sticking your head in the sand and hoping the clock gets turned back.
It won't...

a rabid Clemson fan tomorrow when he woke up. And over the next few years we acquired the top talent you could imagine from both high school and the portal by simply outspending everybody substantially. So what? It's not interesting. What does that have to do with college? With Clemson University?

In essence, that is where it appears to be heading in some form or fashion. At some point, Private Equity may be involved, encouraged by media companies and the biggest programs in college football, and the business model of college football will change. Think LIV ownership of player teams.
To me, it has everything to do with what happens to college football and a university's involvement. I can't predict what the final product looks like, but I can predict with virtual certainty that big changes are coming and it will look nothing like what we've had up to now.

We are starting to see it in HS football as well. Sad times.

I agree with you. We have open enrollment in Arizona, so when students can choose where to go and transfer at will, it impacts the overall product. The best players want to go to the best programs because they know that is where they can draw the most attention.

Clemson is spending money to draw players to the University. However, our checkbook does not have a large balance like GA, Bama, OSU, etc. There is a limit we can pay a player. If fans want our team to have mostly blue chip players then send $10,000 a year to the NIL fund. When that happens our Coach can spend that money to bring in blue chip players such as OL Sanders. By the way, he is attending the OSU game this weekend. TN fans are going crazy just like Tnet fans.
