When are we gonna stop calling it "committed"?

Apr 8, 2013, 1:55 PM

Because when a player is taking other visits, or looking around at other schools, in no way, shape, or form are they committed.

Deshaun Watson is NOT committed to Clemson; lets stop pretending that he is. He likes us a lot, and we may be his favorite, but by no stretch is he committed to us. Dalvin Cook had not been committed to us for some time.

When a kid tells our coaches "I accept your offer, and I want to play for Clemson. I am committing to you here and now", it's okay to say he's committed. But the moment he starts looking around, and certainly by the time he announces he's looking around or starts taking other visits, he's no longer committed. Period. At that point he should be referred to as "former Clemson commit", because that's exactly what he is.

It's a way to get a seat at the table while trying to get

"the best offer"... It sucks, but there it is. It's like asking the ugly girl to the dance in case the hot one turns you down. Not calling Clemson an ugly girl.

It's more like dating the hot girl and getting crabs from a hooker.

I'm calling UGA and Mark Richt a hooker.

I think Watson is evaluating his options because

he had to earn a sport with Clemson. There are two good QBs behind Tajh..

It sucks about his soft commitment and I think Dabo will do something soon about it. Commitment is like marriage, either you are committed to your spouse or NOT and there is no grey area.

"Why NOT Clemson"
"Why Not Dabo"

sorry "spot" instead of "sport"***

Committed, soft verbal, etc is lingo created by websites

to sell more subscriptions.

I doubt that Dabo and Scott are sitting around saying things like Watson is now a soft verbal to us. They know the language and expectations of the players.

And furthermore, the coaches can't (publicly) talk about recruits until they are on campus. We have no way of knowing how "committed" they feel players are to us. In fact I'd love to see their "committed" board and compare it to recruiting websites.

Spot on!!

Commitment (until signed ink) means "I will shop around".

Clemson will get who we NEED, not necessarily everyone we want.

It starts with beating the mutts and rolling all the way to a BCS Bowl, or better yet Pasadena.

That is straight up reality.

Go Tigers!!

For most kids when they commit to us, I just see us as #1 on their list. Nothing is for sure until February.

Actually, there is no verb in the English language "to decommit". If you were committed, then you "break your commitment".
