What's your way-too-early impression of Neff?

How do you think he will do here, based on what you've seen and heard so far, compared to DRad and TDP?
Personally, I was disappointed when he retained Brownell, but at least he made a good case and seemed to imply that success was expected (or else); we'll see. I really like the Bakich hire. Listening to him talk, Neff really seems to understand Clemson and what it takes to succeed here, and he seems ready to do what it takes. Again, way too early to tell, but so far he's giving me hope. Of course, I don't know that the AD has held us back in any way previously.
What do you think?

I think the timing was off for him to fire Brownell

He was just named AD and people were calling for the firing of a long-time head coach in BB. It just seemed risky for him to do that. His statement, the one where people often make fun of, bought him another year basically. Obviously if Clemson struggles this upcoming season, Brownell is gone. Neff showed with Monte that he has the guts to make a change. He was able to settle into the role and make a good decision with the baseball program. I just think the BB issue was just a little too soon in his tenure and he probably wasn’t that comfortable making the decision just yet, especially since basketball is more important financially than baseball.
Overall, I think he’s doing a good job. And it sounds like there’s already visions of upcoming improvements and projects which I think is a good sign of growth.

Let me just say one thing--I'm glad that DRad is gone.

I'm fine with him. He was an AD in training for 8 years or so.

I’ll say this and you can agree or disagree…. I personally asked Dabo about the hire and he was very much for it. And that fellow Tigers is all I needed to hear. Let’s fire the fans who only gripe about the way Clemson athletics is run and NEVER attend a game in person and NEVER contribute in any way except to grumble!

I think Neff is a great hire. I’ve had the opportunity to get to know him and he brings a lot of strengths. I think the retention of Brad had less to do with Graham being new in the AD role and more to do with believing Brad will be more successful with increased emphasis on basketball. Neff has a basketball background and was intimately familiar 29th Clemson basketball, it’s strengths and weaknesses. I happen to agree with giving him another year and we will see how it works out. Love the Bakich hire. That change needed to be made in my mind, primarily because of on the field mediocrity and strained relations with many former players. Graham is much more attuned to Clemson than DRad ever was. Graham is much more of a people person and that will serve him well in this role.

Brad Brownell has had more than enough time

And he has had more support and better facilities than any BB coach in Clemson history.
If he was gonna be successful at Clemson it would’ve happened by now. I think he was given one more year and then he gets the boot.

My .02$...
TDP - Came across as kind of frugal and IMO probably cared more for football than any other sports.
DRad - Came across as someone that thinks budgets are mere suggestions. Didn't blink an eye at spending $$$ esp on football. Reputation with him was he was big on building facilities. Didn't take No for an answer and we may suffer in the long run for his expenditures.
Neff - Seems to be a Clemson man through and through and out the gate seems to be trying to be fair across the board with all sports. I think he's probably more likeable than DRad but he does have some of his spending thoughts and hopefully those don't turn into habits. Spending money you don't have is dangerous esp if you have champagne dreams on a Budweiser budget.
Make no doubt all of them were All In and did great things for CU. Go Tigers!

Neff knew who he wanted and could get him for baseball so he made the move. The way everyone handled it including Lee just tells me there was a plan that was carried out without it getting played in the media ahead of time. That impressed me most of all about Neff so far.
Finding the right basketball coach is going to take a lot more work especially to get it done without a bunch of drama.

I good AD should rarely be seen. Neff's function is to manage a huge organization with hundreds of employees and a multi million dollar budget.

Agreed. If the programs are doing well, Neff won't have to do or say much publicly. The trick for him is doing it behind the scenes.
