What would you do in this situation....

I nearly had an altercation with some UNC fans at the game the other night. I wasn't going to post this but an ongoing debate with ALLweatherfan jr has me wondering AITA (Am I The A-hole) in this situation.
I'm sitting there minding my own business. I hear a group of 4 UNC fans behind me bemoaning their teams lack of ability in this game. These are young guys, maybe early 20's. I was expecting preppy wine and cheese types but notice these were more goofy Beavis and Butthead types, they have filthy language, F this, F that the worse UNC plays the worse their language gets. ALLweatherfan jr says they were high.
Right before half, I feel a large quantity of a drink cover the back of my head and runs down my neck, inside my shirt and down my back. I immediately assume that they knocked over or dropped their drink. But they are all laughing and the guy directly behind me says "I'm sorry I spit on you, my friend said something funny. I jerked my head around and said "That was from your mouth?!?? Who does that?" They run off to as it is now halftime. I go to the bathroom to clean myself up, as I am a bit of a germaphobe and it is flu season. Since this came from his mouth I think, I'd better go to the first aid station and try and get some kind of disinfecting spray. They only have disinfecting wipes.
I thought I would calm down but the more I thought about it as I am basically trying to shampoo my hair in the bathroom sink at Littlejohn, the madder I got. When I returned to my seat after halftime I see them there and I march up to the guy and put my finger in his face and say, "This happens one time, its an accident, but if you do anything like this to me again and I'm gonna bounce you off the concrete, DO YOU UNDERSTAND ME?" He understood. After I sat down the kid next to him is mumbling something about fighting and getting himself thrown out of there but they never acted upon this impulse. When fans in front of us left early, I moved down a row to further distance myself.
ALLweatherfan Jr was mortified at the whole incident and thinks I overreacted and the kid didn't mean it. I could almost buy this if they would've stopped giggling afterwards. But seriously, who does this? If I was in his shoes I would've spit on my lap before spitting on someone else. Especially a direct shot to the back of someone's head. As a long suffering Clemson fan, going back to the days of watching UNC employ the 4 corners, it really took away my enjoyment of the monumental beatdown of them. What would you do in this situation?

in Death Valley. They are constantly screaming at the coaches even when we are winning. At least twice a game there's the flow of drink down under my feet from them. All their trash comes down from them. The she-hole constantly puts her feet on my bench, and inevitable kicks me. Really makes the game a terrible experience for me. I have said something on numerous occasions, which only results in them saying it wasn't them and mumbling about me under their breath. Next season may be the one where we get into it physically.

My initial impulse would have been to mop the floor with him and let his buddies watch so they could see what they had coming should they decide to get involved.

You probably did the right thing. Every team has bad fans. UNC does, UGA does, Clemson does, every team does. You don't want to be the one to start physical contact, because then you would be the bad guy. But you had every right to get in his face and dress him down. And he never acted after that (other than his buddy mumbling fake threats). Good for you.

I have been around plenty of UNC fans, and have not found them to be anything like that. Most are rednecks just like you find in plenty of other fanbases.
They do not exude class or wealth any more than you find in segments of every fan base.
They are a public school, not an elite private school.
Their AD is named Bubba for crying out loud.

Sounds like you handled it well. There’s just no place for that kind of behavior in any public arena. As a UNC alum I’ll make 2 assumptions: 1) They were drunk? 2) They are not alums and simply went to Wal Mart and bought blue tee shirts. Sorry that happened to you.

My son said they were high, I had my back to them the whole game and the only time I was turned their way was immediately after the spitting and when I returned from the restroom.

Hard to say what I would have done. Back in the day, I'd fight at the drop of a hat, other times, I've let greater offenses slide. Seeing as how I'm old and worn out, discretion is the better part of valor, but who knows. At any rate, I don't fault your reaction. Seems like you got your message across.

Ok, so I'm a girl mom and not a guy trying not to mortify his son, but I would have texted "drunk tarheels in section ___" to security and let them address the juvenile sheep or goats or whatever they're supposed to be.

while you're hugging it out, slip an air tracker into his coat. Watch him for a couple of weeks and get his daily routine down. After you find when he's vulnerable, tase him and ###### him off the street. Put a bag on his head and zip tie his hands. When you get to your predetermined off the grid location, tie him to a chair and spit down his neck. Kick his chair over and leave him there to think about his actions. Maybe that's just me.

Two mistakes.
1. He has to leave his cell phone at home so he has a better alibi.
2. He wasn't supposed to leave him alive.

Buddy of mine who played football at Auburn took me to an Auburn / Georgia game at Auburn a few years ago. In the row in front of us sat a mom, dad, 2 small kids, and grandma. In front of them was a Georgia fan probably 20 years old. Right after the opening kickoff Georgia fan starts screaming profanity that would offend a sailor. Grandma stands up, puts her finger 6 inches from his nose and says “young man I will have no more of that!” The boy sat down and I swear he barely clapped the rest of the game.
