What is wrong with college football this year??

First off this has nothing to do with the Clemson beat down in Atlanta. I expected Clemson to lose that game just not that spectacularly. Clemson has problems. However, am I the only one not getting excited for the other games/upcoming games? I'm normally 100% on board even when Clemson is not doing well, but ever since this past offseason it is just not hitting the same as it was. I don't know if it is NIL, Portal, lawsuits, conference realignment stuff, etc, but I am just not that excited for the first time in 20 years. I feel like media is ruining the sport and maybe that is the biggest reason I am not excited. After Fl State got left out last year I feel like the fix is in regardless with the "right" teams getting into the playoff to the point it just doesn't matter. Maybe I answered my own question. ESPN did spend 20 minutes today to explain the playoff and how many SEC teams were going to be in.. throw in the right number of Big10 teams and everyone else is left asking "Does all this really matter?". Not trying to be a total downer just curious about what others are feeling about the sport in general.

It's more along the lines of, "Wow, this is a bunch of millionaires playing semi-pro league now under their millionaire coaches who play on a sports channel that makes millions and gives it to their billionaire Disney Mouse while I sit here wondering when the economy is gonna be good again." That's how I feel about it a lot of the time. Plus the legacy and culture of the sport feels dead now because of the insane use of the transfer portal.

I agree with you, but you will get accused of using the football board to be a debbie downer and tin foil hat conspiracy theorist if you point out something feels off or different in general in the world..........including something like college football.

The problem is that College football is potentially about to become college basketball. Can't name anyone on any team in basketball like you could in the past. Hated Duke and UNC but I could name all their players. So because there's no loyalty in college football anymore it will start to become less appealing to some fans. Players on their sixth team in two years is just stupid.

They have turned it into the minor league for the NFL You know what minor league sports dont do? Fill 80,000 person stadiums We will see attendance and support drop because they have lost all school loyalty and rivalries and with that a drop in the almighty dollar

I am having a lot of the same feelings. It is almost like you can take a game......any game......swap the uniforms and all the teams are alike. They all run the same offenses, the same defenses and use the same strategies, for the most part. Recruiting and payoffs are about the only difference which makes it mundane and bland for the fans.

I completely get what you’re saying. The transfers and NIL has done it for me. I pretty much just don’t care anymore. Maybe that’s a good thing.

Players aren’t treated like slaves anymore and are allowed to get a piece of the billions of revenue college football brings in from viewers to watch THEM play…and you hate it. Figures…

I didn’t say it’s not good for the players. It is. But it’s not good for college sports fans. By the way, college players were never treated like “slaves”. I played college ball. Most fun time of my life. I doubt you will find an athlete from the old days say he was a slave. If he does he’s a fool.

I think paying players is wrong and always will. Student athletes were always paid, but it was called a scholarship. This coming from someone who never got a scholarship of any kind and paid off thousands in student loans. So yes athletes were paid. If you want to argue they weren't paid enough that is one thing, but I can't feel sorry for anyone who got free meals and tuition.

8 teams was the answer but they got greedy. You can't spell greedy with a dollar sign....but they are moving heaven and earth to try. You can however...spell ""sensible"" with a dollar sign.
