I swear it’s like you guys don’t understand how anything works.

Ok. One lab, Jeannie Lee’s genetics lab at Mass General, funded at least in part by NIH grants that are earned, just published a paper last week establishing the previously unknown mechanism of action of chromosome inactivation, which could pave the way for treatments that could cure x-linked chromosomal diseases.

Here’s a link to the press release.
https://news.harvard.edu/gazette/story/2025/04/chromosomal-jell-o-could-be-key-to-treating-genetic-diseases-linked-to-x-chromosome/

This is one researcher’s lab. One. And I chose it because it’s from this month. Out of probably thousands across Harvard’s hospitals and other academic departments. One. Want to look up oncology research there? Or vascular surgery? Or endocrinology? Or physics? Or astronomy? Or engineering? There are hundreds of research hospitals across the country that get funding from the NIH, including MUSC and GHS in this state. Thousands of departments across fields other than healthcare, that just happens to be what I’m most familiar with.

This ignorant view of academia is so stupid that it hurts.

2025 orange level member flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

So how many billion are needed to make that "finding" benefit humanity?***

You’ve made a good argument for whatever money the fed govt sends to Harvard for medical research.

How much of our fed govt money goes to their research, and how much goes to their other (non-medical) departments?

On the surface it doesn't make sense. On the other other hand, graduates from the school probably add 100's upon 100's if billions to our economy. I understand though why the government has a problem with them though. Jew haters. Apologists for extreme Muslims and often supporters.

The point is that he's claiming antisemitism as a reason to go after all the elites and intellectuals. He's chickening out on a lot of his so-called policies now, but there's already been a lot of damage. The grad student who was going to start the next Intel or Lam is probably going to enroll in Europe, Canada, or Japan. The best american students will be going out of country if they can.

It's negligible at most for Americans. It's a non factor. Think about the great international minds we are losing. Think about just for employment as well. It's a such a foolish thing to do.

Here's some reading for you. Surprisingly, it is honest about Musk and doesn't recognize him as a founder of Tesla (as he claims). I always think of Intel. Intel wouldn't exist today without him, but Andy Grove wasn't actually a founder.
