What Dabo is doing is genius

Some of you are just too stupid to figure that out. Maintaining a staff is more important than hiring a big name like Bama, just for them to get a better job in a year or two. We don’t work like Bama. They are about Saban we are about structure and stability/relations
And we will be back in the CFP next year.

AGREE. Plus he was able to shed about $3,000,000 in coaches' salaries. Personally, smart and fiscal, all at the same time.

And that $3 million can be used to get more young talent with new ideas into the program as analysts. It's a machine!

Development of players is a proven strategy in any type of sport. Dabo is absolutely correct is focusing on growing players into roles
Staff is a different story. It's rare to find a sporting organization which has benefited over the LONG term with internal staff hirings.
You need fresh coaching ideas and thoughts coming in. Leadership requires turnover. New thinking and thoughts. I'm not saying we go the bama way but you have to bring external thinking in.

That’s where I think Wes is a good hire. He has been praised for years for his originality and mind by college coaches and Bruce Arians a super bowl winning coach.
I think he brings knowledge of the system with a twist of his own. I’m not one to say if it will work or not, but I like the direction and reasoning.

When "internal" thinking and strategy leads us to the best (by far) era in our history,

how can you say that's a bad thing?
Please provide the data and your extensive study to show that internal staff hires has a history of rare success?
There will be some new ways of doing things - offensively and defensively - but you saying the only way to succeed is through bringing new people into an organization is patently false. You're just making statements without any real backing.. because you personally wanted new, outside people.
We have succeeded on a level unlike every program in the country. We are the model for what college football should be. And we did it by doing it Dabo's way. Who the heck are you and what are your leadership credentials to back your baseless commments?

Who was our best coordinator in the Dabo era? Was he an internal or external hire?
There are arguments for both but I do see the benefit in bringing new ideas and fresh eyes to a program, organization, or company.

A good organization has great culture, great leadership and vision, hires good people, promotes from within, and brings in new talent with fresh eyes and new ideas. That's an excellent business model. How is this different?

Your previous post I was responding to seemed to more heavily support promoting from within only and read as a challenge to support a position opposite that. I presented exhibit A, BV.
I agree that a healthy organization needs a mix of new ideas and a developed culture. Maybe I misread your original post.

The other dude said it's rare to find a sporting organization which has benefited with internal staff hirings, and that's what I was responding to. I think he just threw that out there without any real backing, so that's why I asked for data, So ultimately you and I are on the same page with this - no problem with promoting the deserving and knowledgeable guys. "New ideas" can still come in from the backfills.

That was what I’m thinking. New ideas keep coming in when you bring in outside analyst. (I am still a bit clueless on what that job actually is ), but 2 of them moved in to on field roles so whatever it is must be a good thing.

Please note I said over the long term. You can basically apply this to any business.
The problem with an inclusive leadership development program is that ultimately it is led by a leader with a cult of personality. This individual may be good. They may be bad. They may be in between. But if you don't fit into His or Her line of thinking, you are not including in the program. You are weeded out from the beginning.
This unfortunately breeds loyalty to the individual and a cult of yes men and women, because they want to he held in the good graces and get promotions.
Now i believe Dabo is a good leader. But he has still shown he can succeed at a high level over time. He rose to the top with a masterful plan and executed it well - plus on the backs of DW4 and TL16. The problem is the staying power. Things change. players leave. regulations change. culture changes. And in an inclusive culture, things don't change because the leader doesn't recognise it.
We can see ALL the hallmarks this past year. Slow offensive changes. Non responsiveness to transfer portal. Limited NIL approach. No external hires considered for leadership positions.
The next 3 years will see if Dabo is right or wrong. I really really hope he is right. But history has shown time and time again his path is littered with significant failures.

It’s also rare to find a sporting organisation that promoted a position coach to head coach and won 2 National Championships. Promoting from within might not work out in our case, but I think it’s a mistake to bet against Dabo.

I don't have a problem with promoting from within. But you HAVE to bring in external thinking time to time. Otherwise it's a foolish decision.

There’s more than one way to skin a cat. No one can say Bama is not the way to do it, but by the same logic Dabo’s way has worked as well. The verification of the effectiveness was the two Ws against Bama for the Natty. More than we can say about Kirby’s this far.

I think you need to step back and look at what is happening. Players are being lured to a lot of the big schools by the promise of lucrative name promotions and payoffs. Clemson has won two Nattys in the last five years, but the recruiting hasn’t indicated that. What is scary is that several teams who HAVEN’T won it in many years - Georgia, Ohio State, Michigan, Texas A &M have outrecruited Clemson. Before you point out that Clemson recruiting is fine, please note that we have lost several players (and not the ones reacting to the recent coaching departures) to Alabama, Ohio State, and especially Georgia. We cannot continue to see those programs consistently gain multiple five star players with rankings in the top five without it eventually becoming a losing proposition. The rich are getting richer and Dabo complains that recruits should sit out a year. THAT’S not going to interest todays more money conscious players who are seeing the fat bling potential offered in the much larger market schools. Let’s hope that the newly elevated coaches, especially on the defensive side, can recruit like Venables and others did because the recruiting playing field has been changed forever.

NOT compared to the recruiting classes of Alabama, Georgia, Ohio State and recently A &M. THEY are the ones that can stop us from advancing, especially when it comes to O-line progression. They’re beating us now or we wouldn’t have lost to NC State and Pitt. Do you really think Alabama, Georgia, Ohio State, or A&M would have lost to those two? I don’t.

One important difference to the early teens is that there was not the huge gap between the top 5 and the ones down the line. I believe that everybody in the top 5 has more ESPN top 300 recruits than we have recruits. This class just doesn't compare to our last 5 or 6 classes. I expect it is just a blip, but we won't stay at the top if recruiting isn't better in the coming years.

The logic isn’t there with this post. They are about saban, and yet they go out and make big time hires? I would argue that if you only hire guys from within that have little to no coaching experience that you are more about yourself than being willing to bring in a big name to coach with you over and over again. I am not saying Dabo is all about himself, I’m only saying your post seems backwards.
Saban is about one thing, preparing players for the NFL. The championships are a byproduct of that success. He brings in coaches who know what it takes to make that happen and he doesn’t care how big of names they are. At the end of the day he’s the GOAT in CFB. I’m not arguing that Dabo should change who he is and what he does. These are just simple facts.

Your logic isn’t there to be honest. It was clear I was saying Saban is the mainstay and who players want to play for, compared to decommits when a Venables leaves. If you’re stuck on “big time hires” my point was that it’s cyclical at Alabama while steady at Clemson.
Hope this helps your understanding

So Alabama cycles in coaches and keeps top 3 classes? We promote from within and can’t fill scholarships? But with the stability in the staff we will overcome that issue as well as the ineptitude of the offense this past year with the same guys who couldn’t get it done this year?
Got it. I appreciate the clarification. You were right and now I see the flaw in my logic.

No you’re just putting words in my mouth and missing the point. And yes, Alabama can cycle out coaches and keep player better than we can, because of my point that Saban is why players go there.
Clemson doesn’t have the same luxury and can only compete with Bama by a long term and stable staff that builds long term relationships. As I’ve stated we have not had to have top 3 classes necessarily to win titles and compete.
If you can’t understand what I’m saying that’s fine, but don’t twist my words and say I have no logic. Just sounds like you’re looking to disagree about something.

You still have to have a great offensive line and Ohio State, NC State and Pitt proved we don’t. If we can fix that, we could have Tom Brady and not get back to the top four. QBs have to have time to throw.

Many schools try to copy Saban's method. Some succeed one season (LSU). Some keep trying (UGA, Ohio St) and don't quite get there. Some come close to that level of success over a stretch of time using a unique method (Dabo). And now we will see how it can be maintained and remain successful.

There are only two ways of doing things that work. Factory/Bama vs Family/Clemson. There are plenty of one hit wonders and failures out there, but everyone is striving to one of those two goals. Obviously, UGA is trying to get to a Bama factory level at all costs and has been comically failing at it for years and there equally other schools are trying to get to the Clemson/family level without the genuine foundation.

Given their solid recruiting, once Georgia gets a really great QB they will be significantly ahead of us. They’re getting way too many 4 and 5 stars for them not to be scary for years.

See my earlier post. UGA has consistently landed higher ranked recruiting classes than we have in the playoff era. But we have gone further in the playoffs every year but two, one of which is this year. Signing highly rated recruiting classes doesn’t guarantee success.

Alabama is a great team and Saban is a great coach, but like OSU do those schools pretty much sell themselves regardless of the coach? Very rarely do you see them drop off. Remember OSU losing a couple of Outback bowls to SC but overall always in the mix.

Spot on. I get a kick out of watching schools like TN focus on making a splash with every hire. While Clemson hires the right person, even if nobody has heard of em.
