Wes Goodwin on taking Sammy Brown off the field against Scar

Goodwin was asked about taking LB Sammy Brown off the field in the fourth quarter against South Carolina, and he said the Gamecocks went more to the QB run game and he wanted to get more speed on the field. Or rather, when the question was asked, "to get more speed on the field?" he answered in the affirmative

Whaaaat? That makes zero sense to me. Clearly, the speed can’t tackle. Guess that’s why I’m not a D coordinator.

Actually, I think we could figure out that you don't take your best tackler off the field. Please let this guy go back to analysis.

Yeah, Sammy is plenty fast. Let’s put some small fast guys out there to tackle a QB the size of a DE that isn’t that fast. 🤯. That coot isn’t Lamar Jackson.

Dabo said the same crap when asked in his presser. Inserting S. Lewis and taking Sammy off the field was just dumb.

.......but speed needs to know how to wrap up and bring people down. They used to do that years ago.
Batson and Goodwin need to have these guys stronger than what they are now. Batson is not getting the best out these guys when you got quarterbacks running through them like the paper banners that high school teams run through when they take the field. It is embarrassing.

Woodaz was defiantly not even 80% for the SC game. Looked like Mafah right now playing defense. So yes Sammy should have replaced Woodaz as the spy for sellers.

Unfortunately even at 100% Wade has some limitations athletically. Smart player and obviously great teammate and hard worker, etc. But he usually plays behind the line of scrimmage and unless we are playing average ACC competition he really doesn't stand out that often.

this answer if proof positive that he has no business being a D coordinator at this level. what is scary is that He and Dabo still think it was the right call to have Sammy on the bench during the most important play of the game and most of the 4TH quarter. Woodaz is not fast and cant tackle in space and Barrett carter has whiffed all year trying to tackle . This lack of coaching is why we cant recruit big time defensive players anymore. The entire nation saw and knows what a fail it was to have Brown out , yet the man making 11mil/year and his overpaid D coordinator still cant see it. You cant have confidence in a team that is this poorly coached. Quin Ewers has to be licking his chops at playing against Goodwin and his 3 man fronts.

Yea I'm sorry then he's a dumb @$$....
Sammy is night and day faster than Woodaz and definitely Carter. Just admit that you thought the moment was too big for the freshman.
Carter should have immediately began splitting reps with Woodaz the minute they saw Sammy didn't require an acclimation period to the collegiate level.

with the pressure leaving a gaping hole for him to step through. This has been an issue on more than just that play. Once Sellars was through he had nothing but green grass and being in the middle of the field had multiple avenues to take that. Maybe Sammy makes a play if in there but would have been at a big disadvantage like the rest of the back 7. We shouldn’t have been that aggressive to fly up field, should have forced a throw on 3rd and 15.

Sammy is obviously fast enough. Moreover, he is fast enough, big enough, and strong enough, to make that tackle on the coots huge tough QB.

Typical CYA of a coach. He screwed up and he isn't going to own it. He was/is being covered by the HC. As much as I respect Coach Swinney sometimes his loyalty is irksome. Sammy can cover sideline to sideline and is one of the best if not the best tackler we have, I would say that "0" was but I have been disenchanted with some efforts over the year!

they don't instinctually get to where they need to be when they need to be at the speed and intensity they need to be there with
you can't coach that. it's you either have it or you don't
....The recruiters and positional coaches have to help. Because right now there's just attracting what we have
Keon Sabb Dylan Everette Nate Wiggins (dude basically left the team and was a man of 1 his Jr year)
. those are elite DBs that just don't come here anymore . and that's because of position coaches

We did not stop Sellers when Sammy was on the field either... Sellers had a career day... let's move on. Hope we figure it out.
We lost because our offense got stagnant the 2d half, that is the far more concerning trend than one guy beating us.
