choose BBQ when there are 89 competition teams from several states cooking such a variety of meats? Did not consider the huge turkey legs, chicken, hash, ribs, or brisket - wanted pulled pork. Smokin' Gringo's had a one pound pork sandwich and several non-typical dishes so my son and I stopped right there. My son got a burrito bowl with brisket, rice, and mac & cheese and could not eat it all. I got a "normal" size pork sandwich that I had to eat with a fork because I couldn't pick it up. Also had slaw that had bits of pineapple in it, which was a surprise. Should have waited for it to cool off some and go for supper when the blues singers hit the main stage.

Choosing from all that is impossible.

Your best bet is volunteering at the venue where the judges do their thing and getting in on all the action that's distributed after. Beat the heat and sample the works.

That's a really good festival but geez I wish they would move it to fall. I had Cole slaw with blueberries in it once that was really good.

Glad you and son had a good meal. When you go somewhere like that it is like roulette, you walk around and walk around and you finally pick a booth. Been there and done that.

One reason we picked this one was that they won the overall award last year so we had a heads up- otherwise we would’ve had a hard time choosing.

I had been to the Hog Squeal in Lincolnton NC several years ago and they could not sell what they cooked butt they would give you all you could eat. About 60 teams there each year. A few azholes started doing burnouts in front of the courthouse and they stopped having it.

We have been a few times and every time question what is wrong with October for the festival. Way too hot to walk around Greenwood now but it is amazing to see how much money people spend on their BBQ rigs.

When it started this weekend was the only one available in the south for A kcbbq championship. So 25 years later it’s the same weekend. They get the better national teams but also keep it local with Hash competitions etc. also some of the best Blues acts in the south!
