Not so sure. He’s not an experienced qb in the college ranks. I doubt other schools are gonna pounce on this guy.

Are you still a photographer living the dream? I bet there are plenty of slime ball programs willing to engage with a super talented QB regardless of the slime factor.

I don’t think the OP was commenting on whether people will be interested in him. The precedent that he’s referring to is schools giving releases from commitments because they didn’t pay enough. Essentially this eliminates what little commitment between school and player was left.

This is more complicated than that. Fl couldn't fulfil an obligation it committed to.

the NIL contract is supposed to be independent of the school and program.... they should have held their ground and made him sit for a year... made him go the portal route and burn that too...tail is now wagging the dog...

who is "they"
Florida was recruiting this kid and he committed. They could have never known anything about what was promised in NIL. If that is the truth then they are the victims here. They lost what they thought was a recruit they needed. If they didn't let him out of the NIL they would take a beating from the WOKERS.
There is no way they could win here.
If they did know about or make these promises then yes.. fork em.

He probably would have hung around until the transfer window opened again and spread hate and discontent. They are better off without him around.

following through on an insane NIL deal. I don't even care WHY they didn't follow through on it. At least, now recruits can intuit that NIL is NOT a bottomless money pit.

so I would have refused and then forced him to transfer and then sit out a year. My guess is Florida caved in order to avoid the class action lawsuit that would have surely ensured had they refused to release him from the LOI

Ditto. Class Action requires there to be a class of people impacted by whatever it is they are bringing a claim against. Who is the class of people impacted by this failed NIL contract?

I have thought that NIL will fade into beimg jersey sales to locals.
Seriously, did you rush out and buy Dr Pepper because Brice Young advertised for them?

I feel the same way about 99% of the advertising I see. If you take out the cellular carriers, insurance and car commercials from sports what is left? I doubt very many people rush out to by a $70k truck because they saw it on a commercial and who is constantly switching carriers or insurance companies. Seems like such a waste of money.

I think it's not so much that someone will rush out to switch carriers or whatever, but the hope is the next time the customer is looking to shop around for a new insurance quote they will remember the name of your company from an advertisement. I have no idea in regards to an actual return on those advertising investments though.

That’s true. I’m sure the marketing department has a budget for commercials so they spend every penny so they can increase that burner again the next year.

I've never seen a commercial where a so called "celebrity" or athlete endorsed a product that remotely peaked my interest because of who they are.
A total waste of money if you ask me.

Florida is hoping this will help their suit against them..

I guarantee since Florida backed out of the promised $13mil NIL deal, they will be sued for big bucks. Plus consider Rashada was committed to Miami for $7mil guarantee NIL and Florida swung for him with a $13mil NIL deal then backed out. Now this kid would be enrolled at Miami if Florida hadn't interfered. As things transpired, now it's too late for Rashada to enroll into a program for spring practice. Basically cost the kid a full semester of training and coaching.
There is no way this doesn't cost Florida a bunch of money over this fiasco! Good, I hope it teaches schools lessons about the NIL.

It's not going to cost the school anything, because the school doesn't pay the players. A business or NIL collective pays the players.

It's hard to know all the facts not being involved but if what I heard on a sports show this morning, a law suit would be grasping at straws. The sports reporter said he and his family were notified the $13 million NIL deal fell through before he signed the LOI and still signed. Not a wise thing to do if that is true.

The only precedent that has been set is that a student has a right to request to be released from their LOI if a promised NIL deal falls through. We know many top recruits are signing LOI’s with the assurance of an NIL deal. If the NHL deal falls through, then the player should have the right to rescind their LOI. That’s not how it’s supposed to work, but that’s how it works. We may not like it, but that’s the new reality.

Players have always had the right to request a release from their LOI...and the school has the right to accept or deny. This doesn't change that.

face the wheel!
I don't see a problem with him being excused from his LOI under the circumstances. In fact, Florida came out way ahead of him on the deal. He isn't going to get 13 mil and Florida isn't going to pay 13 mil.
