Wednesday I'll get a visit from Milton.

We'll get 12-24 hours of high winds and rain. Nothing like what hit North Carolina. I'm in the middle of the state, equidistant from Gulf and Atlantic. We'll have localized streets flooded, but it will go away in a few hours. Biggest problem will be power outages. Could lose it for a few hours, but could lose it for 4 or 5 days.
Nobody's life will be in danger, unless they do something stupid.
Just letting y'all know if I'm off for a few days it will be due to power outage. But, we will be safe.

Stay safe! I know the weather is nice and taxes are great but dang I don’t believe I have it in me to dodge those hurricanes.

Don't count your eggs before the hatch.
The inland destruction we are still dealing recovering from is proof you never truly know.
The damage in SC, GA, and FL was greatly overshadowed by what happened to WNC.

We will have damage here in central Florida.

Trees down. Some mobile homes will be damaged.
I lived in a house for 38 years that is about 5 miles from here. We had trees all over the yard, including big limbs hanging over the roof. We never lost a tree. Did have huge limbs break off, but none hit our roof.
We moved to this house about 7 years ago. One of our requirements was no trees in the yard.
There will be flooding. St. Johns river will overflow it's bank. People living near that will have to deal with water inside their homes.
But, in general, we are in far better shape than the coast. We live on a ridge that runs down the center of the state. Our soil is sand, not clay, so the percolation is good. And, our county is Lake County. Named that way for a reason. Good drainage and will direct the water north and into the St, Johns river 40 miles north of us.
I have evacuated twice. Both times it was to take care of my mother-in-law who was living with us (one time) and my mother (the other time).
My point in the original post was not to downplay the seriousness of hurricanes. I've been through them for 50+ years here in Central Florida. And, I've seen the destruction they can do. I was just saying that what I will go through is nothing compared to what NC just went through.

Be safe - and don't underestimate it. I think a number of us in the Upstate didn't think Helene would pack such a punch by the time it got to us.

I don’t miss those hurricanes. Lived in Destin. Fl for 3 years and Myrtle Beach for 6 and went through a few hurricanes and hopefully no more. Those of you that are in its path be careful and stay as safe as possible.

Trying to predict damage from a hurricane is a fool's errand. Do not take this,

or any storm for granted. Sadly, it seems a lot of us did that with Helene, and many paid the ultimate price for that unpreparedness.

That hurricane really humbled God's people here in SC upstate. I've noticed people smiling more and being much more polite. I'm 72 and in better shape than most 50 yr/o but they've been promoting me to the front of lines and all types of things to show respect for my age. A month ago they were not behaving this way.
I'm not saying any natural disaster is beneficial but just that God uses even the worst things in our lives...
My prayers for you, brother.

Be safe you are unusual fellow to be both a Tiger and Seminole fan. I know the Noles come first. But thanks for being a rare bird. Could luck Wednesday as my prayers will be with you and all those in the path of this big windbag headed your way. Be careful as we thought we would not get the kind of devastation that we got in our area.
