I can’t remember a bigger flop in our recruiting history. Generally, we are awesome at getting those who come to the major weekend because we only invite those who are really interested.

I’m not a sky is falling guy at all, but we need to look in the mirror.

Kids see their reported possible NIL values on the recruiting sites and if they don't get offered cash then they move on. Those $$ numbers on On3 have super inflated the self networth with recruits and Dabo already said he wasn't gonna be in bidding wars which is why so many kids choose elsewhere. While they love Clemson they love money more.

Money talks. All these other schools are offering the sky, we can hold out until these payments are regulated.

Honestly, no one is more competitive and wants to win more than me. I live and die with our wins and losses ..... not only football, but every sport. BUT, if it takes buying players and getting in bidding wars for high school kids, and that's what they are, then I will get to the point that I really don't care ....... period.

I agree. I still think college should be a place to learn and prepare for adulthood. Paying these teenage athletes should not be allowed in college.

I realize that it has become a "buy a team" recruiting universe. Many TNetters, like many college athletic fans have gone to THE DARK SIDE and have come to the obvious that recruits are after the Benjamins. Weather it's the HS player or the Port-O-Let guy, they want to get paid and I am not implying they are not entitled (there's that word again) to a fair market value. It's easy to say that Dabo and Clemson need belly up to the table but let's also lets consider the following:

1)How deep are Clemson's pockets vs the competing recruiting school? Most likely a few dozen or so,
B)If Clemson enters the bidding war for a player, doesn't that give a recruit another bullet to use and drive up his/her (a little PC there) price "...well Clemson upped it's offer...what can you now do for me?" Looks like that's another part of the scheme,
3)How loyal will a signee be who only plays for the $$$,
4)How about the locker room environment...how's that going to be effected?,
5)It's crazy to throw out big figures to HS kids who hadn't even taken a single snap in college?

Just my thoughts after spending the afternoon in 98% humidity, 98 degrees in the shade and 108 heat index doing "Honey Do" stuff. Is that an oasis at the end of the street?

Exactly right!

As a student at Clemson from 1964 - 1968 we had a lot of mediocre years. A 7-3 or 6-4 year was OK, and I don't ever remember going to a game where I didn't think we had a chance to win, nor did I ever get down on the team and lose any of my enthusiasm. The Scar game was so special, regardless of the record of either team. I knew many of the players from my classes or because they lived on my hall in the tin cans.

I equally loved the Danny Ford years and of course the Dabo years, but regardless of who the coach was or who was on the team, my enthusiasm has never flagged. It certainly will not kill me to go back to those days. I don't want to, but as important as it is to me, I'm not going to worry for one second if I have to. It won't change my life one iota!

Yea but Dabo puts all his eggs in that 1 basket (early June official) & he has the last few yrs! We have normally hit on 50-60 % but this yr flopped. Big time. U can't really rely on the All-in cookout bc it'll b mostly commits & maybe a few uncommitted. Could possibly snag 2 commits from that. I know Dabo self-evaluates ea yr, but this will b something he needs to handle differently going forward. Couple yrs ago, kids got excited on these officials & committed. Now they want to know what the next official visit will offer!! $$$

It's simple...These kids wanna make money and get paid...Dabo and his staff knows this...We all may not like it but it's the reality of the situation regardless where our $11m a year head coach is taking his vacation.

It's not a matter of morality...what's so immoral about it? I don't think they should be paid but there is nothing immoral about them paying players.

I agree, NIL is now part of the game whether we like it or not. Capitalism and a free market drives the demand and the cost. Taking a moral high ground for something like this is naive and counterproductive. Not participating is a choice but don’t whine about the results if it doesn’t work.

It could be worse. We could offer a NIL to a player and when he gets to campus tell him we don’t have the funds. The player transfers out after 1 week and a year later is trying to sue the university.

Maybe we need to serve different meals? Maybe we just need to start doing better on the field and get the recruits more excited? Who knows? We aren't in the loop. In the end we will have 3 good classes in a row after 2025 comes in. Let's see how it all pans out. We are still building it all up again.

One thing that I believe we all have had to face in college sports, and that is nothing is ever the same from one year to the next, and that goes for recruiting also. Do you remember the Danday Dozen, that was when we had like 20-22 players committed, Tommy Bowden was let go or left on his own, and we only signed 12 of the 20-22 we had committed. The rest committed somewhere else, and we lost some pretty good commits that signed else where!!!
