Saturday is a referendum on our program

Forget how we got here, or whether or not you think we deserve it. This is where we hoped to be, playing for another ACC Championship and a spot in the playoffs.
This used to be our sanctuary. Championship football. Peaking at just the right time and playing our best when it mattered most.
This game is a referendum on whether or not this is still true. Can Dabo and this staff motivate this team to return to glory and the playoffs?
We have not played our best ball or even consistent ball all year. Now is the time to find out if we even still have that in us. If we do, Dabo and staff will provide the right motivation, have the right gameplan, make the right adjustments, to put us in position. The team will then have to be focused and motivated and execute in a near flawless manner.
I'm thinking we need another performance out of Cade like the last time we found ourselves in this position against UNC in our last ACC Championship game. And, the defense will have to match that intensity and that consistency.
If we do this, I can start to feel better, and think that maybe we have the right stuff to change some things, but still remain a high level program.
If we again fall flat under the bright lights, there is no more words to soothe the reality we have to face going forward.
I'm hoping Saturday night will be our finest hours of the season. Let's make this one count!

8-0 in the conference but we didn't. Miami had their shot and they missed. I would love to win Saturday. SMU is going to be a though out. Dabo/Wes better not take Sammy out of the game. We will need to stack the box and make them pass.
Go Tigers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I believe we deserved it too. Winning would solidify that belief.

Any fan that would have been asked at the beginning of the season if Clemson was playing in the ACCCG with a "Win and In" scenario for the CFP, they would have taken that happily and most would have been over the moon, especially after last couple yrs.
All these "Back Door" and "Don't Deserve it" fans are just never going to be happy unless we win a Natty. Most these fans are either fair-weathered fans that jumped on the bandwagon during DW4 and TL16, or they are too young to remember the days when we were happy when we became bowl eligible and Gator Bowl was great, and a bunch are obviously just a bunch of stupid trolls using scoks to push people's buttons.

They won't be happy if we win a natty this year because it will vindicate something about Dabo's approach.

I think losses to two SEC teams were the acid test. I don't think a win on Saturday magically elevates this team's resume. While SMU is solid, they haven't actually played anybody.

I think people will somewhat let that go if we are in the playoffs. Then it will come down to how good or bad we perform against the best. That will be the last impression people remember.

Unfortunately there are some who hold onto that so tightly they won’t let it go even if we win Saturday. Unless we run the table and win the national championship, whatever game we do lose will be that last impression and they will use it to yell “I told you so” whenever that opportunity arises, whether it’s after this game or after any number of playoff games.

Probably true, but I’d rather hear it after a playoff loss than a conference championship loss

Ridge you never have a positive thought for the tigers. You don’t seem to be a supporter of any value.

Sometimes it feels that way. Destiny is in our own hands now. No one to blame but ourselves if it doesn’t work out.

Winning another ACC championship would certainly be great

but I don't think it changes the fact that we have become an underachieving program.
We still have significant issues that have to be addressed, and that's true whether we beat SMU or not.
The only thing that changes if we beat SMU is that Dabo will almost certainly use it as "proof" that things are great and anyone who disagrees is ungrateful.

He might. But I’d still rather have another trophy in the case and take that chance.

Uncertain what will happen ... Clemson has some advantages in ACCCG
Dec 5, 2024, 1:17 PM
|
|
Clemson 40 - Stanford 14 / SMU 40 - Stanford 10
Clemson 24 - Pitt 20 / SMU 48 - Pitt 25
Clemson 21 - Louisville 33 / SMU 34 - Louisville 27
Clemson 48 - UVA 31 / SMU 33 - UVA 7
On paper, based on common opponents, SMU looks a little stronger. But this game could go either way. Clemson is very used to Charlotte, the stadium, and ACC championship games. Home team crowd hopefully. Big advantages to Clemson. Who wants it? Who plays aggressively with passion? Go Tigers!
