Watson in Bama Lore

I've watched Alabama play for the national championship in 1971, 73, 78, 79, 92, 2009, 11, 12, and 14. BTW, we have won all after 1973
It is my opinion that by far the best performance against as I've ever seen in any of those games was the performance of DeShaun Watson this past season.

Was one heck of a performance. Too bad injuries, missed assignments, and special teams cost us the game.
Watson and our walk on receiver made your D look silly. Hopefully we will see you all again in January!

73 & 78 were split champions. I'd say you won half at most, of those two.

In 73 we were number 1 in UPI 78 number one in AP after beating number 1 Penn State in the Sugar Bowl
Sorry but both of those count as a national championship

In those days, a consensus championship was

winning the AP and UPI. If you won only one of them, it was a share of the championship. The AP was the more prestigious.
So Alabama won part of the national championship in 1973 and part of it in 1978. In other words, dummy, they shared it.

To get this back on track, I will say that the next best performance I ever saw was Johnny Rodgers of Nebraska in 1971
That may well have been the best college football team I've ever seen or ever existed

I remember the 1978 season well. Southern California, the co-champs, beat Alabama on their own field that year. No way there should have been two champs. Southern Cal should have been the undisputed champion.

Alabama beat number one and undefeated Penn State in the Sugar Bowl that year
USC lost to a very poor Arizona State team the week after they beat us in Birmingham
I found your response to be verycootish especially in a thread where I was paying your guy an ultimate compliment

On second thought you are probably right. Think the coots claim half as their own

Why would you challenge this guy when he's trying to give a compliment? To quote Jack Nicholson, "I'd rather you just said thank you."
