How about a dose of reality?

The TV Talking (Butt)Heads have pretty much written the Eulogy for this Clemson football team after only three weeks. Now, I, and most others who follow the Tiger program closely think that is just a wee tad bit premature. But, if we DO miss the Playoffs this year, is the sky really going to fall? NO! Would we be happy about it? An equally resounding NO! Nevertheless, here is the reality.
There are, and will be for at least awhile yet, only FOUR playoff spots available. By pretty much default, the SEC Champion (or best school from the SEC not named Champion) owns one every year. So, that literally leaves 129 other schools scrambling for three spots each year. Now, again reality, we have as yet NEVER seen the stars align such that a "Group of Five" school makes it, nor will we.
So, again reality, at the start of each season, there are really less than 15-20 schools who have even a preconceived shot at a playoff berth. FOR SIX CONSECUTIVE YEARS, CLEMSON HAS EARNED ONE OF THOSE THREE SPOTS. Swish that around in your mouth, savor it, and then swallow contentedly. Even Mighty Alabama missed in 2019. We are the ONLY school with that streak running.
So, if we miss this year, should we fire everybody and start over? Of course not. Did Bama send Saban packing after missing out in 2019? They considered it just a bump in the road, because they knew Saban would fix whatever was wrong, which he surely did in 2020.
We can get on here and bellyache and grouse and moan, but in the end, Dabo's track record should engender that same kind of trust. He might not make moves as fast as some of us All World Internet Coaches, but he will eventually make the right ones. That, is reality.

this week is really a key game. Win here, and we have the chance to grow in to what we all hope for come November. We know most in front of us will lose. Many complain about being in the ACC, not me. Need to see those steps forward, tune out all the obituary writers, and just steadily improve. What anyone says at this point is meaningless. Dont need to be flashy this week, though some chunk plays would be nice. Just play better, fundamental football.

The perception of the ACC as a weak football conference is

generations old. Way back in prehistoric times when I matriculated, the ACC was derisively referred to as "The White Meat League". I remember being on the wrong end of some of those 49 point parlay card point spreads. I remember a trip to Nebraska (or Oklahoma?) and kicking a field goal late in the game. Final score was Bad Guys 52, Clemson 3. We have come a LONG way since those woeful days of yore.

If the ACC continues to slide to no longer being power 5

that changes everything. Right now, the ACC is clearly the WORST of the power 5 and instead of taking a step forward, FSU, GTech, Miami and even UNC have taken a step backwards! Then we look like crap on offense!
Folks had better start figuring out what is going on here because the ACC is trending towards group of 5 status.
As I watch the transfer portal dynamic and the NIL, it appears the rich are using these mechanisms to get richer. Bama, OU, UGA, FL, OSU, et al. While little ole Clemson sticks to its principles and the ACC drags its feet in beefing up the conference’s attractiveness for players wanting more marketing visibility.
I used to think the SEC’s slogan “it just means more” was cutesy, but it is turning out it does mean more. More players in the NFL, more NIL, more talent, more meaningful games that people want to watch, more nattys.

I think everybody is beyond disappointment of likely missing the playoffs and on to gaping mouthed shock that we can't move the ball on GT but Northern Illinois can.

76er - I agree ??.
Be nice to have a good season, with just one loss. DJU and a bunch of other current Tigers said they started watching/wanting Clemson in years we were not National Champion. DJ said, Tajh to Watkins got him for example. Just win! Be thankful! I am thankful and feel blessed to have witnessed Clemson football win three titles. A huge number of people my age 49 have never and most likely will never see their school win one. Got to be thankful and humble for the program we do have. Don't abandon ship because we get in some choppy water.

Dabo wants only a 4 team CFP. Probably get bit by it this time, which he's probably due to.

I don't think having a great season and finishing 5th or 6th and missing the playoffs is a huge blow to the program. I think having an offense full of 4 and 5 star recruits who look like they've never played the game before is a different story. You can bet the Mannings of the HS world are watching and if it continues to look like we don't know what the heck we are doing it will negatively impact recruiting, which will lead to our ultimate return to irrelevance. Also, if we keep playing like this we will end up losing 3 or 4 games and that will be a terrible season for a team starting out ranked in the top 5.

My biggest concern and number one complaint has been the same for years. The OL has to get fixed!
We now have four and five star talent along the OL. But they’re getting worse, not better! The problem has to be coaching.
We have the highest paid coaching staff in college football. Go find one of the top OL coaches in the country and we will be as dominant as Alabama. The Oline has been the only thing holding us back. It really is ridiculous to have a coaching staff paid this much and a team with as much talent as Clemson has to year in and year out have such apathetic OL.
I have never seen another elite program that year after year after year has one glaring weakness that never seems to get addressed and fixed.
And that one weakness in Clemson’s case is arguably the single most important position in football. There are plenty of teams with a mediocre QB and RB that have a lot of success behind a good OL.
Football 101: the team with the best OL typically wins!

about Dabo. Nobody, or very few, has said anything about diminishing enthusiasm for the program and Dabo if Clemson doesn't make the playoffs. ["Playoffs?? You're talking about playoffs??"] We're still all in, and for many if not most of us, that has more to do with things besides W/L.
All, or almost all, of the comments have been about the objectively anemic play on that side of ball, which comes after a year of coach language about how 'special' all those players are, including the oline. If they're so 'special', it's like Mark Richt said Bobby Bowden asked him when their QB kept throwing ints; "Our guy is throwing it to the wrong people. I've seen enough of it. Is it his fault, your fault, or my fault?" Its a fair question, and people are taking about it.
What do you want football fans to talk about?
