Was JC the biggest signing day surprise we've ever had?

When i clicked on the "5 star OT commits to Clemson" link while at work i was shocked, I figured it was Cade Mays. Only signing day i remember being huge was 2011 when 5* Stephone Anthony & 5* Tony Steward both committed to us especially with the famous Stephone Anthony quote "Clemson's coming".

Yeah. On the same day, a big OT from Louisville GA flipped from Clemson to GA. Good trade, I think.

I thought we had a legitimate chance to land him . Didn't set my camera up to capture the moment , but having seen Dabomagic before I never ever totally discount our chances with any recruit anymore .

By far the biggest surprise was CJ Spiller. He only visited because of a promise he made to the coaches (Dabo?), it was late in the recruiting process, we were still a very average team, and at the time nobody went into Florida and got a player like that. He grew up a Florida fan and that’s where he was fully expected to go.
I can’t speak for before 2000ish, but since then it’s CJ, and it’s not even close.

I will show my age and say John Johnson. For those that don’t remember he was all everything LB from LaGrange Georgia who shocked the Dawgs by picking us on signing day. At that time in the 80’s that just did not happen

I didn't start following recruiting super close until about 10 - 15 years ago, and in that time span I think Spiller was by a decent margin the biggest surprise recruit we got.
Any big recruit we get now isn't a huge surprise since Dabo has the value of the Clemson brand rocketing sky high.
