Coach Tony Elliott. UVA 4-1

The general consensus on TNET seems to be that Coach Elliott "was just along for the ride" in terms of offensive success while at Clemson.
Most people give Coach Scott all the credit.

Funny thing is: "without hesitation over a period of time both Dabo and Jeff Scott give Tony Elliott the most credit"! So, as long as they know it, that's all that really matters, I guess.

Virginia - used to lose to everybody on their schedule. "Everybody they have played so far are the types of teams, nobody would be surprised to have seen Virginia lose to"! A lot less during Mendenhalls time there.

But, with the tragedy that struck that team and university to come out the shoot like they have is a real positive start in the right direction.

They aren't ready to contend or probably even get close - but they are better than they were and finding a way to win.

The Clemson Alum and former Tigers player/coach Tony Elliott has done a really good job so far!
***Jeff Scott in comparison went: 4-26 at South Florida and 3 of the 4 wins were against FCS teams. Would you call South Florida a Harder or Easier job than UVA. Football rich Florida or Virginia - high academic requirement - UVA?

As an engineer, Elliott would have been good with numbers and analytics, and I'm sure used those strengths in how he approached calling plays as a coordinator.

Horrible football tradition, only one truly successful coach, George Welch, and terrible fan support.

Tony has always been meticulous. Where as Scott was more like Dabo personality wise, Tony is so organizationally wise. While Dabo's personality is a great asset, it's his organizational skills that have made him who he is.

Remember when our record vs them was 29-0?

I remember Ken HATFIELD ruining that streak in his first season as Head Coach

after the ugly Danny Ford ouster. He was already behind the eight ball just being the unpopular replacement for a wildly popular coach. Becoming the first Clemson football coach EVER to lose to the Cavaliers was just another nail in the coffin.

In 1992 did we not overcome our biggest deficit in history coming from 28-0 to win 29-28 in Ken Hatfield’s 3rd year. I personally could not put the first loss to Virginia all on Hatfield. They were a good team while KH was our HC . In KH’s first year iMO he did a great did a great job keeping the team together under the circumstances in 1990 leading Clemson to a 10-2 finishing 2nd behind Ga Tech who won ACC Crown and the UPI NC. KH lost to a really good Virginia Team who at the time Virginia lost to Ga. Tech, Virginia was ranked #1 in the polls and Hatfield’s team lost to #18 ranked Ga Tech.

I wonder if DF would accomplished more ?? In DF’s 10 years at Clemson he had a couple 5 - 9 or less wins in a season. 1 year DF was 6-5 before coming back to win Clemson’s 1st NC in 1981. Hatfield achieved success at Clemson under constant pressure and negative fan support. I can’t help but wonder What he could have achieved with more fan support ??

Did we not win ACC title in 1991 Hatfield’s 2nd year ? I believe he won 1 of 2 BG’s.

I believe had he been given more support from the players, fans and administration he would have been more successful. In his 4 years at Clemson he had 1 losing season

If there was ever a HC who was in over his head it was Tommy West in my opinion. West admitted same in a press conference after he left Clemson. He was more successful at Memphis.. Hatfield had winning records in his 3 years at Clemson while West has 3 winning seasons out of 6. He was 8-4 ,7-5 and 8-5 before he went 3-8 his last year in 1998. I believe one of those wins was over SC.

We as fans she feel some remorse for his treatment while at Clemson. He had to follow in at the time the best HC at Clemson. In a way don’t you think Danny Ford helped sink his own ship ??

Pulling for Tony. Always thought he was average OC riding the talents of great players. I think he can be a greater HC than a offense coordinator. He's a great man and hopefully he will be a great coach.

I never thought or said CTE was along for the ride but their success or lack of success as a HC is not an indicator of their value as a coordinator as the two jobs are vastly different. Many great coordinators bomb as head coaches. Additionally great players don’t always make great coaches but that does not diminish their accomplishments as a player.

It would be great for them to beat Lewisville and come to Clemson at 5-1.

That would be perfect!

Virginia did go to Wake and beat Wake, so Clemson must follow suit.

Former Tigers player Kobe Pace will need to have a monster game for Virginia to beat "Lewisville"!

Agreed!

It would be great to see. Dabo is a very underrated Coach in terms of his impact on college football as a whole.

The fact many HC's and programs have adopted their own: All In, or chips in the bucket, and several other Copy-Cat - Dabo-like things says a ton though!

That's difficult to do, let alone given the tragedy they experienced.

I wasn't sold on him when he was here, but apparently he's much better than I gave him credit for.

I had the opportunity to spend about 15 minutes chatting with Coach Elliott. He is an awesome person. He reminds me of a Dabo clon. He will do well as a HC. He is a great leader and man of character and integrity.

UVA has a difficult remainder of the season coming up. Probably will only be favored against UNC. Hopefully they can find 2 more wins to go bowling.

I dont think people understand just how many players left the program at the same time when Bronco left. TE had to rebuild pretty much his entire OL and had no QBs

That normally takes a while to do it the right way. UVA also lost 4 games by 3pts or less last year and 1 more by 7.
