SEC hype every year. Even AL lost way to many players last year on defense. I could see AL losing 2-3 games this year.

Preseason rankings are mostly linked to how a team finishes the season. They won their last few games so that is what people remember. If we wouldve beaten WV to end the year we would be around that range.

Winning 11 games last year and returning talent helps.

Just answering the question.

Pollsters tend to look at things like QB and RB, and most seem to think they're pretty good there.

But others seem to think he's pretty good.
It isn't Clemson fans who do these pre-season polls, right?

they lost Ellis Johnson at DC, the only time Spurrier has done good at scu is with Ellis Johnson at DC. SCU has had terrible offenses under Spurrier.

Last year's results are the #1 influence on pre-season rankings.

Have I given a single opinion on how good I think USC is going to be this year? I don't remember giving one.
The question was what was the person thinking ranking them so high. I answered the question. Didn't say I agreed with him.

the Gamecocks. Perhaps they have recruited well enough to plug in quality replacements. We shall see.
The main issue for them is how well their defense can perform after losing so much athleticism in Antonio Allen, Melvin Ingram and Stephon Gilmore and losing their coach.
The Key: Replacing Allen with Devonte Holloman is going to create mismatch problems for them in the passing game. Plus, Allen was a tackling machine with excellent speed. I'm not sure Holloman gives them that tackles for loss ability that Allen provided either.

Good points, but I think of the three you mentioned, Allen is the one I'm least worried about replacing. Holloman should at least do fair.
DB is what worries me the most to be honest. Vic Hampton is very talented, but not sure if how he will do as the number one guy. And Akeem Auguste always seems to be hurt so it is hard to rely on him.
