Update on FSU trajedy.

These are the facts (at least they seem to be true at this point in time).

One shooter. He was shot by LEO, is injured, is in custody of LEO, but is not talking at this point (he has "lawyered up"). So, as of now, no information on motive.

8 people were shot, plus the shooter. 2 deceased, 2 in critical condition, 4 in serious condition.

FSU classes cancelled today.

FSU home athletic events cancelled through Sunday.

The area of the campus near the shooting is closed. The remainder of the campus is open.

The name of the shooter has been released. The names of the 8 victims have not.

The gun used by the shooter was legally owned by his mother (stepmother) who is on active duty as a deputy for the local county sheriff's department. More info on her below.

That's about all I can say we know to be true. Everything below here is speculation or partial information that has been gathered.

The shooter was initially described as the son of an 18 year member of the Sheriff's department (still on active duty). It is now being reported that he is the stepson of the deputy. Lot's of speculation about the relationship between the shooter, his mother and his stepmother. This leads to lots of speculation about his mental/emotional condition (including some possible mental health conditions).

Info coming out about his political views - people searching for a motive. But, as of now, anything you hear on either saide as a political motive is just people guessing and jumping to a conclusion with no basis of fact.

Prayers to all.
The article HINTS at his mental state due to parents divorce. At some point you have to quit blaming everyone but yourself.

All sorts of speculation.

Mental health: ADHD, autism, more serious health issues.

Bad relationship between his mother and step-mother.

But, right now, it's all speculation.

We have to figure this crap out. This shyatt has to stop.

Mental Health issues in this Country need to be addressed. There should be no stigma associated with getting help and anyone seeking help should be given help regardless of their ability to pay.

Sad.

There is no figuring it out IMHO. What can we really do?

The fact is we have done a lot. The term "mental health" didn't even exist a few decades ago.

Think about the things human beings have been doing to each other for thousands of years. At least now people are appalled and want to do something.

Just a couple thousand years ago we were cheering as people were mauled by wild animals. Entire civilizations have been raided and everybody including women and children slaughtered. See Psalm 137:9.

That kind of stuff doesn't happen anymore.

If you think those things don't happen anymore, you are mistaken. I have personally investigated cases where this happens and happens a lot. Just because it isn't happening in good ole' small town USA, does not mean it is not happening. It happens every single day unfortunately.

Parents and the family should be intervening. Not sure if they seen the signs or just did not think it would go that far. Fact is we are all responsible for ourselves and sadly there are crazy people in this world that have no respect for human life. If family does not step in I’m not sure what anyone outside his circle could do.

Unfortunately, with many of the people who do these kinds of things, the violent acts are the first time they have acted out publicly and there has been no prior reason to suspect that they would be capable of such an act. As rhpltmeg® said, if the families have not identified the issue and intervened, there is many times no way anyone could have known there may be an issue.
Bottom line is we are all responsible for our actions and should be held accountable for them.

Is there speculation needed about his mental health? Anyone willing to go around shooting a bunch of people has mental health problems period.

Remove God from American life, destroy the family and have mostly single parent households, destroy the economy with inflation so poverty is a certainty, create a "Great Society" where everyone is taken care of by the government, eliminate right and wrong and just let people decide for themselves what is moral and...........wahlah!! This is what you get.

You think humans can't decide for themselves what is moral , or not ? What is right from wrong ?

I think a person knows intuitively what is wrong , and what is right.
I could not agree more that we need to figure it all out.

It’s not a single choice as this young man did not go from stable, well rounded young man and decide one day to take a gun and start shooting people. Just like a guy I saw not long ago doing the meth zombie walk in Asheville on a Saturday morning. It’s a series of bad choices/events where the person slides a little in the wrong direction each time. The slide often starts with some sort of trauma. They may know something is wrong but the pain trumps their moral compass. A strong, healthy family and a faith component can help when facing these issues IMO

Thank you for the update. Will be praying for all victims and their families.

Some may disagree with my opinion. If you have your kids or someone else living in your home you have a responsibility to keep in a safe firearms, prescription medications, and if necessary the car keys and alcohol in a place where they are secure.

If this kid even though he is 18 had easy access to the firearm he used on those 8 people then the parent or stepparent should bare some responsibility. Especially if he has mental illness or mental issues and even more so for not keeping the firearms in a secure location that he could not access.

8 people have been shot because of someone’s lack of awareness and responsibility. If Parents and / or Legal Guardians are held more accountable for not securing the firearm, then some this crap will stop. Families of the 8 victims should lawyer up to !!!

Let him lawyer up. If he killed 2 people in Florida that should make him eligible for the death penalty ! Life in prison without parole just allows those with a life sentence to create even trouble within the prison. It puts guards lives in Jeopardy when they are allowed to mix with the general population.

One of the kids that robbed me a gumption was 17 when he and his 2 buddies who were known gang members by their families had access to a firearm. Lawsuits against those families who know about their kids are involved in illegal activities yet fail to discipline them may be encouraged to more get control of them if they are held more responsible for their actions.

One of kids who robbed me was caught. He lawyered up to but he received the maximum sentence 20 years without a chance for parole. He refused to turn in the 2 that got away. His family gave the Judge this sad home life sob story. It did not help.

The SC legislature finally passed a law that allows open carry without a permit. I recommend you train and educate yourself if you plan to carry a firearm. If you pull it out you better plan on using it. !!! Know every states laws about carrying a firearm and get legal insurance so if you use your firearm you will have a lawyer to contact 24/7. Google an insurance company who sales legal services coverage.
