I wish politics would quit being a replacement for professional wrestling or reality TV shows. The American proletariat needs hobbies and interests other than politics. Is that an elitist view? Yes, it is. And I’m not apologetic about it, nor should anyone be. You want the best pilot flying your plane, or the best surgeon cutting out your brain tumor? Of course you do.
Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, John Adams, etc were the smartest, most experienced and cultured men on the planet in their day. If women and minorities were afforded the same opportunities I have no doubts they would have been in the mix as well. Governance should be handled by the most capable, and I don’t believe we can say the same now. It’s only getting worse.

Simple dollar conversion. Jefferson paid nearly the equivalent of $300K today to buy the wine. It's real value has gone up very little beyond the 24x the dollar has deflated since then.

One of the greatest wine lovers in American history. He had cases after cases of Chateau d’Yquem shipped across the ocean, and notoriously loved left bank Bordeaux’s like Mouton, Lafite, Latour. These are the biggest names and most expensive bottles now, he had spectacular taste in wine, immaculate. Tasting Chateau d’Yquem is a truly other-worldly experience.
