"ETN" was driving erratically and at high speeds before stopping the car in front of the Retreat on Milledge apartments, which is an upscale student housing complex.

Etienne reportedly confirmed that he had been drinking, telling the officer that he was "just trying to get home." He did not consent to any sobriety tests and told the officer he could push his car home instead of driving.

"During this interaction with Etienne, he continuously sways back and forth while standing on flat ground. His eyes were glossed over, and his speech was slurred," the officer wrote.

After pleading no contest to a reckless driving charge and guilty to underage possession of alcohol, failure to maintain lane, and a window tint violation, his charges of DUI less safe and DUI under 21 were dropped, the Athens Banner-Herald reported.

According to the newspaper, the 20-year-old received a sentence of 12 months of probation and was ordered to pay two fines totaling $1,392.

Etienne will also have to complete community service, a substance abuse evaluation, and an alcohol risk reduction program.

It’s still college FB, regardless if the pro-type aspects of this great game since the arrival of the portal and NIL.

College players are held to eligibility rules as preconditions of getting to play that are different from the rules that apply for NFL players. If UGA has a ‘no DUI’ rule for its players, then the player should be required to sit out the standard number of games that UGA requires for a DUI.

It is possible that Kirby has enough influence among UGA’s top administrators that they can, in turn, influence the local police department to retract a DUI charge on a key player.

This would be akin to academic fraud, as when a professor bestows a passing grade on a FB player who flunked a class so that said FB player’s eligibility to play in the game would not be impeded. We’ll probably never know.

Did UGA get the Athens police to drop the DUI charges in ETN #2? We’ll probably never know. Does UGA bend the rules (I.e., commit academic fraud) in order to keep an otherwise ineligible statement to continue playing in the games? We’ll probably never know.

However, if Kirby has players sitting out our game because those players did something to violate team rules, then that’s just the way it works. It won’t negate the status of our victory against UGA should we be fortunate enough to win.
