110 announced signing him. So looks like he’ll be back for a 6th year. So no shot we bring in a S from the portal now.

Barnes and Griffin will start. Ricardo flashed as a freshman, so likely becomes the #3 guy.

Then a battle between Tyler, Webb, Billings, Dixon, Wilkinson and Kenan.

I know he’s a CB and only played 14 snaps before redshirting, but what do you think about Corian Gibson? What would be your way-too-early starting 11? Would you keep Henderson at RB or bring him over to the other side?

Kiki’s didn’t show me a lot, had to play way off his man. I know some of that may be because he played injured. Gipson will have a chance to play a lot.

I wonder if we could move Tyler to Nickel, he should have high football IQ. That said, Barnes is not accelerating at Nickel, he was much better at Safety. I think we are doing Barnes a disservice having him play Nickel because he was a stud 2yrs ago.

'Friends and family', etc., focus on the reality: come July 1 (I believe), rosters go to 105. Exactly how do you think teams will get there.

If you thought portal activity has been crazy...watch then! All those 'fish in the pond' swimming about waiting for a new pool.

Think a bit, occasionally...

Not guaranteed yet but likely. That said, if Barnes is better at Safety than nickel, I aint too worried about Friends and Fam you speak of. I think Tyler is probably a good 2nd stringer but I think Nickel might be better as you cover TEs or RBs from backfield and not guys over the top.

on having him around, but he doesn't need to be on the field. He does not possess the athleticism to fill a role in our secondary.

I'm interested to see what Wilkinson can do. I know we stole him from App State at the last moment but his film looked really good.

Tyler’s PPF grade was really low this year. Hope he can make improvement in his final year. We need the safety play to get much better next year.

Ronan Hanafin - betting that he will win starter job at safety

Despite not practicing at Safety for either the entire 2023 season (his true FR year when he was part of the WR group) or until a few games into 2024 season (when practice time is sparse), Hanafin got plays from scrimmage in key games and at important moments.

Hanafin is big, runs well, and (as seen from his special teams play on the coverage unit) a good tackler.

A full Spring and Summer and pre-season will do wonders for him.

Unless he packs on ~20 lb and gets moved to LB, then I betcha that he wins a starter job at Safety.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

No offense to Hanafin but I hope not

We should be set at Safety with Khalil Barnes, Kylon Griffin, Ricardo Jones, and Kylen Webb or Rob Billings. Hanafin could make the 3 deep with Tyler Venables.

Does anyone remember Tyler running full speed on a play - it was a game st home and field was wet - he tried to slow down as his foot hit the plastic and his leg and hip jerked hard? Was that the injury that has caused him to miss so much?

Think Lukus might get a look at safety as well. Not fluid enough to play press man in our defense imo.. I think safety might suit him better. Met him the other day actually.. really nice guy, but is massive to be a corner. Easily 6’3”-6’4”, just had that safety body type
