Two upgrades I'm looking for this season!

1. Wide Receiver route running. The last two years we haven't seen a lot of good separation. Hoping having healthy wide outs with a new scheme and someone new delivering the ball will shift this back to what is has been!

2. Secondary not getting burnt and getting tons of pass interference calls. This unit cost us the Coot game last year. 30 points should have been enough to beat them again and should be enough to beat them this year. It's a put up or shut up type year for their coaches.

Im just excited to watch a competent offense again!

Last two years have been painful. But yes, the D taking a step forward would be refreshing to see as well. Want to see us get after the qb this year.

Sunshine pumping here, but I believe if secondary stays healthy we will be very solid on D. Lots of injuries and depth with experience hurt us last year.

WRs I think will be much improved. Injuries hurt us and they also ran those routes without separation so that they could catch a ball thrown behind them or towards the other team that DJU was throwing. Really was a Ingenius move by the offense to have WRs slow down and avoid separation to help their QB

The young guys we have in Anderson and Dee are very good! But, young! Kobe McCloud is a RS Fr or So and supposedly is looking good.

That might be me having wishful thinking on Mickens - need to find a way to get him on the field more. He makes plays when he is in the game.

Was Boulware ever not in the game in crucial situation?

He was an iron man.

When we’ve been at our best, we’ve had good luck with injuries.

These days, really good players are not going to be content providing “depth”, so good health is going to be paramount.

We have three really solid guys as starters, but our depth is going to have to learn on the job.

With that in mind, hoping for lots of scoring by our offense early in the games so we can’t give the young guys lots of snaps.

Not worried as long as we don’t get hurt. We have a major injury then he’s very much concerned. I know we are going to play a lot more 4-2-5 and sub in Woodaz a lot. The question is who comes in behind Woodaz?

Dee Crayton has gotten some buzz but is he ready to step in and not be a liability? Then I think it’s Kobe McCloud. Again not sure he’s reliable. Would definitely be a major drop off if either of those two have to play.

It’s because the defenses all knew the routes…

And they only had to cover from the hashes out

We also can't have Cade running for his life but I do think we will be a better OL this year.

I agree with all that has been said. I would add that our WRs must regain their passion for blocking.

Heck Yes! I concur with this 100%. Let's hope. The tunnel screens and bubble screens people complain about so much; are actually effective when blocked well.

But, blocking on the perimeter must take another step up the "good scale" for us to be an elite offense.

We neeed onne of our freshmen corners to step up or Lucas to contiue his development. I have zero confidence in two of our corners who is set to play a good deal.

1. DE play 2. OC

You can't say much about the secondary; w/o bringing up the pass rush. The secondary can't cover forever! If you do not get a pass rush and the QB feels comfortable back there; they will eventually make plays on you. I think the secondary will benefit from a upgraded pass rush. Although; I am concerned with the depth at DE.

OC play calling - you can't criticize the WRs without looking at the structure of the offense. They were given a "book of rules" on plays! If the defense does this; then do that. If they are in man and the sun is up and the guy in row J went to the bathroom; shorten your route, breathe out, and squat between defenders. The players in this offense won't have to know advanced physics to play in this offense! The old offense "wanted to have answers in case the defense guessed right"! Which sounds good; until you end up with 20-thousand rules you have to remember and get right and be on the same page with your QB. All that processing means; you don't play as fast - b/c your thinking more and not being natural. This offense will allow dudes to be "DUDES" and just go be an athlete.
It doesn't matter what the defense is lined up in; run it to your full potential. You would have run that route against that look so many times(high reps over and over and over and over) that you will almost become instinctive in adjusting.
All of that means WRs and QBs are able to make quicker decisions. Which means, they play faster!

We will be fine.

well, having a qb that can make a read in the RPO

Scheme dictates separation unless you are butt slow and we were not...Davis Allen was not exactly fast but he had separation all the time...when the qb can't hit them with the pass separation does not matter...after all a catchable ball means all!

It sure seemed like DJ could not consistently throw a guy open. Especially on crossing routes. No doubt that gets into the subconscious of the WR when balls are arriving late and too often behind you. No surprise crossing routes were just about abandoned because they were an interception waiting to happen. To compensate DJ would almost always fire a fastball right at the receiver vs ahead of the route of the receivers. With those types of issues chemistry between the QB and WRs breaks down. Did you notice how much better Ngata looked with Cade in the game?

I disagree with both of your points.

1 WR separation last year is a fallacy. You should look at more game tape and key on the receivers. DJ missed dozens of opportunities each game with wide open receivers.

2. Coaches lost the coot game. Having an inept QB continue to throw the ball at red wigglers in the turf when we were gashing them running the ball killed that game.
