This dream ideal isn't going to work. You can't refuse to play the portal game and then not fully commit to doing it with the HS kids. I love the ideal that you prove yourself first, but in reality, that's not going to work consistently year after year.....
The philosophy that HS kids will appreciate us more (thus making us more attractive) for not going after portal kids, unless absolutely necessary, isn't going to work with the vast majority of elite players. You'll get a few "old school" kids that like that idea and $$$ isn't the driver, but not most...
Just like Summer OVs, better rethink the strategy. I think Clemson is hoping for a rule change that will set limits, but that may not come for quite some time.
You can't come up short in HS recruiting at some groups.....and then NOT use portal. Especially when you aren't winning at the clip you were a few years ago and the offensive production has fallen off...

Again, you'll get a few kids that are old school, but not nearly the numbers that are needed to compete at the highest level. If that's not Clemson's goal then fine. But I believe it is. You don't pay Dabo & Co. the money they get....or pour that much $$$ into the program or sue to get out of your league unless you are serious abt competing at the highest levels.
I understand and completely appreciate/love the ideal....but, in THIS environment, its not going to consistently work if your goal is to win NCs.

As I've said before, if we don't get out of the ACC and join either the Big10 or SEC our football future is done - for many reasons. But the one I think that's being referenced here is our schedule...I mean if I was a recruit and Clemson was telling me you get to play Virginia, VT, BC, etc, versus I'm at (pick a school), Florida and they're like come here and you'll be playing Texas, OU, etc. it'd be a no brainer. Not to mention the talk that the Big10 and SEC have already hinted at starting their own National Championship game, Clemson just looks to be on the outside looking in moving forward.

Virtually every kid in the southeast grew up wanting to play in the SEC. When FSU recruits a kid one of the obstacles they have to get over is, "But, you aren't in the SEC."

For the most part the negative recruiting has only served as a filter of sorts to weed out the non-believers before it's too late. "All In" isn't just words on a locker room wall. It's all good.
