I know there have been a lot of rumors and a lot of smoke about Tom Allen, the DC at Penn St. I also have said multiple times I wouldn't throw names out there unless I had solid Intel.
I can say that Allen is a priority candidate and I'm doing more research on him as we speak. More to come

How did he even become DC at PSU? His best defense while at Indiana was 27 in 2017. He inherited Manny Diaz's players. Not thrilled to hear he is our priority. I'll support him if he becomes our DC.

I think it would be great, but the question I have with several of these rumored candidates is this. Why would a successful DC at a very well-known and prestigious program that has a great season and plenty of money to pay coaches consider leaving that program to come to Clemson? Why jump ship for what essentially is a lateral move? There is no harm in approaching the guy, but I think the odds are that he would be looking to move up to a head coaching job if he is going to move.

I'll throw out one. Not saying this is the case with Allen. I have no idea what he is thinking, or even if he is seriously interested in the job. But, if he is, maybe he is thinking along these lines:
"I'm 54 years old. I'm financially set for life. I don't need any more money. My kids are financially stable as well. I've been a HC. I don't care about getting back to that position again. I just want to coach. I want to teach kids about football and about life. I want to work with kids, not booster and administrators and guys like Kirk Herbstreit and pat McAfee. Things are changing in college football so fast now. I a couple of years I may throw up my hands and just quit. But, if we can get through this chaos and set up some sort of "new normal" then I like the way that Dabo is doing things. I could see myself working with him for 10 or so years."

There's only so much 'runner up' results that fan bases and boosters will put up with, especially ones that have climbed the mountaintop in recent memory and don't see a likelihood of doing so again under current leadership. It may be nuts to cast someone aside with his consistent high floor in as competitive of an environment he's in, but that's college football and it's happened plenty of times before.

Why would Franklin be let go after leading the program to the Final Four of the Playoff?
The rumors I have heard that is Allen is really good friends with Matt Luke from their time at Ole Miss under Hugh Freeze. He is more of a culture fit in Dabo and the Clemson culture is why he would want to leave.
I will say Franklin is hard to work for and Penn State Fans are getting frustrated losing potentially two top Defensive Cordinators in row in Manny Diaz and now Tom Allen.

Dabo is a legend and HOF coach. He’s one of the Top-10 best coaches to ever exist. Who else? Nick Saban, Bear Bryant, Bobby Bowden, Tom Osborne, Dabo Swinney, Steve Spurrier, Urban Meyer, etc….
Dabo has a legit Top-5 best ever case…
And James Franklin from PSU isn’t even Top-50….

Dabo's value give us unusual advantages. Matt Luke could have worked anywhere and QUIT UGA. Chris Rumph is an NFL guy. The Riley hire was a national shocker. Clemson is especially attractive to coaches.

For the record... if he runs out a 4-3-3 defense by accident and we don't give up a big play or touchdown... I'm fully expecting all of the people giving me a hard time about the typo to give me enough thumbs up to give me some steak knives.
