Not sure if he was on the sidelines or in the box at PSU? But when he was head coach at Indiana he was wild to watch on the sideline. I tried to find a video of it on YouTube but couldn't. Understandably, IU football is not exactly in the lime light normally.

If you want to get back to more of the Brent Venables style of emotions he definitely fits that bill. Anyone else ever witnessed an IU game when he was there? He was into it to say the least.

It's my understanding that he was on the sideline but Franklin made him go to the booth. Locked on Nittany Lions had a live show talking about it on Youtube this morning.

Penn State defensive coordinator Tom Allen moved from coaching on the field to the press box during the 2024 season:

When did he move to the press box?

Allen moved to the press box after two games, following a narrow win over Bowling Green. He also handed off linebacker coaching duties to graduate assistant Dan Connor.

Why did he move?

Allen said he wanted to see things better from the press box, and that he liked being able to block out noise. However, he also said that he likes to be close to the players and feel the emotion of the game.
How did he adjust?

Allen said the move was a big adjustment, but that it helped him do a better job. He also had to get used to being an assistant, rather than the leader.

It is a tough decision to make. I’ve struggled with that more than once in my coaching career. Working with your position players during the week at practice, film study, weight room and then not with them on game day seems counterintuitive. However, I liked to see the whole offensive picture and could see things better from the pressbox than someone else telling me what they see.
Wherever he is on gamedays, he will have to have someone he trusts to relay information from sideline to pressbox.
