Today on my BD, I had to tell my Mom her time was almost up

I’ve spent the last 10 days with my 90 yo mom in the hospital. She has a lung infection that is not getting better and today I had to tell her that her time in this world was almost up.
At the same time, I had to also let her know her best friend of 86 years passed away on Friday. She had a great attitude about what I said and told me she had a wonderful life and is ready to go. She was a teacher for 41 years and was loved by her students. She continues to teach me about courage and grace, even on my 68th BD.
The nurses laughed at us on Saturday as we watched college football. They couldn’t believe how into it she was. That got me to thinking about how much our family has enjoyed watching our Tigers through the years. She doesn’t completely understand everything going on with the program this season. She just enjoys being a fan and pulling for “her Tigers.”
As frustrated as I get about where the program is right now, I’ve been reminded what’s really important about being a fan and simply enjoying the game and all that is Clemson.
Thanks Mom, for continuing to teach me the value of loving what matters to you, even in the darkest of times. Go Tigers, keep fighting, never give up!

Sorry to hear about all your tragedies in your life with losing the ones that is closest to your heart hartins, especially with losing a kid. From my own experience there is no pain that can come even close to losing your kid, part of you dies with them!!!

I feel you on the loss of a child. It’s been 24 years since I buried my baby girl. The pain never gets any easier. Some days are better than others. Some still feel exactly the same as the moment she passed. I’ve learned to live with it a little better. No parent should ever have to bury their child. God bless you brother. And everyone that has experienced this.

I am so sorry to read about your mom’s situation. Regardless of age, It is never easy to say goodbye to those we love so much. I know your mom will be in a much better place. Unfortunately, there will loved ones left behind to grieve her passing and will miss her very much. 🙏🙏🙏
Myself along with many people will be praying for your family and for your mom. May God Bless her with peace and comfort each day. And may God Bless you and your family with his comfort, strength, love, hope and support.

It will be 3 years this Saturday (25th) that I said goodbye to my dad. Not a day goes by that I don't think about him, especially on game days because Clemson Football was our thing together. You are in my prayers.

prayers sent. I went through this a couple years ago. I was the last of the family unit left and it was a month of being 500 miles from dealing with supporting mom and dealing with her affairs. It was a very difficult and lonely time

Because we had to discuss all of her options with her and allow her to make the decision she was the most comfortable with. If we didn’t do it, the doctors would have. We also have to make hospice arrangements for her care after she leaves the hospital, so of course, she needed to understand why all that was happening.

My mother-in-law had cancer and knew when her time was near and was staying with us. She was actually the one who decided that it was time to go to Hospice. It would have been disrespectful for your mom to get to that point without being informed.

TY Clover, she has been very talkative today and definitely wanted to be involved in the decisions regarding her care. It has also given her a chance to reach out to select friends and family while she is still lucid, present and able to verbally communicate.

when folks reach that age and their health is fading, they truly mean it when they say they're ready.
She sounds like a wonderful woman whose existence made other's lives better. What a blessing she's been.
This enlightened time you have to tell her how you feel is also a blessing, although it may not feel like it. Everyone doesn't get this chance.
Tiger football binds us all whether family or not. Enjoy the memories of time spent together - watching The Tigers play - and as you said, "All that is Clemson".

My mother passed away last month 11 days before my 77th birthday- she was 97 and had outlived all her friends and family in her generation. Had been saying things like “Why am I still here?” for several years . People are fortunate to have lived a healthy life for that long.
