CAB could help Kelly & Eric with A/V quality to not be trash

1

Jun 26, 2023, 9:49 AM

I wish the ACC Network shows had ANYWHERE near the quality of video & audio as Clemson gives to its players in the NIL building & beyond, especially former Clemson players like Kelly & Eric! I loved Kelly on WCCP but now it just feels like an empty check.

The quality level, especially the audio on this national broadcast, it's tough to stomach, & the worst part is it's such an inexpensive solution. I feel awful for them but I also feel awful that they don't seem to case & just mail it in from their sweatpants at home & nod their heads while staring off-screen. Sorry, I don't mean to just be mean, I just don't get the apathy for the league & their show----it made sense to do some bad quality stuff during the pandemic, but that was years ago & there's no real sense for it to be THIS bad anymore. I wish I could help, sincerely (I'd give them the gear & information myself).

Watch you talking bout Willis?

First I don’t see anything wrong with the quality of the broadcast. Second this isn’t produced by the the ACC network. There’s probably thousands of one off self produced podcasts just like this; I don’t know if they have any support from a larger media entity, but if they do it’s probably Sirius/XM.
Now back to the ACCN; a lot of it is pretty bad especially the quality of the coverage of some of the lower profile sports. I tried to watch a Clemson vs Wake soccer game from Winston last year that looked like they were using the security cameras from a bank across the street as their main video feed.

I hear you.

Thousands of one-off podcasts exist with webcam-quality audio & video, sure (it's probably hundreds of thousands but still), but absolutely it's produced for & paid for by the network & SiriusXM, make no mistake. Ingles isn't a cheap sponsor, for example.

Still, I hear you.

My thing is it's SUCH an easy, inexpensive fix, it's frustrating to see the ACC represented this way not just because it's a national broadcast, but because they're both Clemson grads & there is so much opportunity for them to learn from the program they're instead promoting anyway, know what I mean?

Mailing in the content & the quality just bugs is all, & my whole thing is I want to HELP them the way Clemson helps its 18-22 year-old kids so much vastly better, know what I mean?
Like, a miniscule investment in gear & education could, for example, get them better guests, more sponsors, & all while helping even the league at-large look better than a second-rate representation by comparison, all without them having to leave their basements (i.e., they don't need a studio).

You’re taking this a little too seriously, this is just a side project for them, and it’s a YouTube video not a national broadcast. Neither Kelly nor Mac work for Sirius/XM it’s just one of the landing spots for their podcast. They both have full time jobs at ESPN and the ACC network; Mac even has third job calling XFL games. If they couldn’t do it from their homes maybe they wouldn’t be able to do it at all.
All that said I still don’t see the quality issue you do; you must have a keener eye or are a broadcast professional.

A correction

To be clear, Eric & Kelly's show is literally broadcast nationally on the ACC Network & Sirius XM everyday; they also put it up like this on YouTube, but if you can't see the difference in audio & visual quality from this &, say, Mark Childress's show from his home on the same networks, I'm not sure how to respond to that.

Even if we disagree on quality of production mattering, the content, I mean, perhaps I listen too much but they definitely mail it in & look more distracted than focused. I don't mean to sound cynical, but I like to think "Best is the standard" are words to guide people by, especially players who learned it under Coach Swinney himself, & it's just disappointing if nothing else, on top of being easy to make them look absolutely world-class, even from their own basements.

Still, it's just frustrating is all-----I'd help if I could, & so would Clemson University outright.

It’s literally NOT on the ACC network linear TV channel

Jun 26, 2023, 3:01 PM

The video podcast is only online and on demand. The audio only version is broadcast on the Sirius/XM ACC radio channel. I’m listening to Sirius/XM college sports right now on a smart device; I don’t have access to that channel because you can’t get it streaming only you have to have a newer XM radio hardware device. So no it’s not really a national broadcast if it’s significantly limited in span.

I don’t know about the quality and content of the rest of there broadcasts, I’ve only seen one other. I just thought this particular one was pretty good.

It is though

Jun 26, 2023, 3:09 PM

It's on Sirius XM often & not on the ACC Network exclusively (I didn't know that was a channel but I don't have it on Sirius FWIW).

Still, I suppose technically that's worldwide then? In any case, yeah, it's regularly on worldwide radio, which is great for them! I wish it was better for all our sakes I guess is all, & yeah, it's OK to see it as frustratingly disappointing how much better our 18-year-old students are I guess, & I admit it's a bit personal as I want the ACC to do well & represent as "best" as possible, & from someone who listens to their show a lot, it just isn't the case & has been the same since COVID aside from Eric getting a (now discontinued) USB mic & a ring light.

What’s frustrating is this conversation. You’re incorrect about the distribution of this podcast, but I’m not gonna be able to change your perception so I’m just gonna refrain from trying anymore.

The problem with ACCN is funding or lack there of. Watch any program and you'll see the same commercial over and over and over ........... Not enough ratings to warrant companies spending money to advertise on the ACCN. I've seen Football games where there might be only 2 or 3 at most different ads, pay attention and see for yourself.

Kinda?

Jun 26, 2023, 4:11 PM

I hear you, but again, the gear needed to change it is remarkably inexpensive & the training for it is readily available, know what I mean?

It's personal I guess BECAUSE I want them to do their best & see them have success; yeah, it's hard to listen to the echo & low quality, particularly on Sirius, but more than that I want it to be better for THEM.

Clemson University, for example, set the bar so high it raised my standards & I don't have any regional sponsors, but as a side effect I learned how (relatively) easy & inexpensive it is to do.

I think many people don't care, including Kelly & Eric, & that's OK, it's just hard not to still WANT the best for them & for us listening I guess is all.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

You are correct about the ACCN

Jun 26, 2023, 4:19 PM [ in reply to Re: It is though ]

But again this podcast has absolutely nothing to do with the ACCN. The ACC radio property on Sirius is a completely different entity produced by Sirius/XM and not ESPN.

2024 white level member flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Sorta?

Jun 26, 2023, 4:37 PM

I hear you. A technicality then? Ex.; it's not made by or hosted by the ACC Network even when they show it on the ACC Network channel, but it is nearly an ACC-only program by design outright, including countless guests almost exclusively from the league.

I suppose I just wish anyone trying to help promote the league did it with more deliberate purpose than this I guess is all, & in particular for any of our own Clemson voices (& notably with so much help available to them from Clemson outright, albeit I know they don't live next door anymore & do the show from their spare rooms at home).

Jun 26, 2023, 4:15 PM [ in reply to Re: It is though ]

K, I hear you! Promise. I've heard them on Sirius's College station in a normal package both across the country & internationally, & I don't pay for extra channels (it's like $6 a month) & I subscribe to their channel, too; the tricky part is the YouTube stuff usually comes out much later than the podcast/Sirius show so I don't always watch the videos, but the sheer number of ACC head coaches & players they've had on makes it worth watching, & I admit I thought Kelly was great here in Clemson/WCCP.

Quality is a personal thing & it doesn't have to matter to you, Kelly or Eric, I am not trying to change your mind, just sharing my thoughts on it. While I haven't heard worse audio to-date on any other Sirius show, again, my whole thing is I want it for THEIR success more than anything else. It's why I'd offer it to them myself, gear, setup & training, even if the content remained a bit mailed-in by nature.

If you think that is that bad, I'm pretty sure that it means that you haven't ever tried listening to the player interviews after a FB game. Anybody that has tried listening to those interviews will say that it's the absolute worst circle jerk they've ever in their entire life tried listening to, and that is putting mildly. I don't dare risking my blood pressure pegging out anymore by clicking on one of them to see if they've gotten that amateurish circle jerk fixed, or at least made it tolerable!!!!!

Yes, Yes, Yes. I just wish Clemson would buy a boom mic and someone that knows how to run it or a mic to pass around because you can never hear the media questions in pressers just players answering dead air. It's really amateur.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

The new facility though...

Jun 26, 2023, 2:31 PM [ in reply to Re: CAB could help Kelly & Eric with A/V quality to not be trash ]

I really hoped Clemson's new media facility was going to deliberately help fix that problem.

When they brought in Coach Riley for his introduction at the first-ever press conference in the new room, it was worse than I think any of us would have expected, & surprisingly so.

Neff talks about the ACC the way the coach talks about a QB who works his butt off but is about to get benched because the guy on the bench is just too good to not play.
